Overview:

With Washington's final pick, I decided it would be a good idea to double up on Linebackers and go with a thumper that can backup Darron Lee and whoever starts opposite him. Year one, Kirby will probably spend most of his time rehabbing and when he gets back, we expect him to be a core Special Teamer. 2017 and beyond, perhaps he can start next to Lee but we are happy with his floor being a very good Special Teamer. He is another product of LB U and recently many Miami players have been overachievers at the next level. We feel safe betting on his return.

Overview:
****tu was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2015, when he recorded four sacks and 14 tackles for loss.

Strengths:

• Has length to disrupt if he learns to use it effectively.
• Quality footwork after first contact to work himself around the blocker and onto the other side of the line.
• Has enough upper body strength to displace blockers on occasion and find the ball carrier in the backfield.
• Converts tackles attempts into finishes at a high rate. Flashes some disruptive quickness that might be channeled as a 1-gapper.
• Was that a spin move I saw as a rusher? Why yes it was.
• Motor is a plus and became a much better player as the season rolled on.
• Compares to Vinny Curry

Weaknesses:

• Plays with inconsistent pad level which prevents him from reaching athletic potential.
• Doesn't do nearly enough with his long arms and big hands.
• Allows blockers entry-way into frame rather jolting and controlling point of attack.
• Played inside at Stanford, but lacks anchor base of NFL defensive tackle.
• Lay and pray pass rusher lacking dynamic rush skills. Suffered season-ending ACL injury in 2014.
• Has just 2015 a starter under his belt and played less than 62 percent of the defensive snaps this season.

Bottom Line:
****tu posted some eye-catching tackles for loss numbers this season for the Cardinal and there are flash moments that force you to make a projection value on him over tape value. His instincts inside are below average and his lack of pass rush is a concern considering his body type isn't a natural fit for an NFL interior. While ****tu is considered an ascending prospect in some circles, it’s hard to find a position or a trait that can get you excited and his final destination may be a run-only base end in a 4-3.

Overview:
Receiving statistics do not measure Griswold's potential; like many college tight ends, he is underutilized in the Red Wolves' offense. After a sophomore season where he earned second team All-Sun Belt honors with 24 catches for 312 yards and three scores, Griswold hasn’t had the opportunity to be productive in two honorable mention all-conference season (18 catches, 221 yards, four scores in 2014; just 13-187-2 in 2015). His size makes him an intriguing red-zone prospect and long strides allow him to threaten the seam.


Strengths:

• Big body with some thickness in his lower half.
• Good straight-line movement for a big man and was used to challenge downfield.
• All-state high school basketball player with ability to body up and catch the ball in traffic.
• Decent leaper.
• Dependable hands and tucks ball quickly to get up the field after catch.
• Technique as run blocker needs lots of work, but flashes some potential in that area if he can become more balanced at point of attack.

Weaknesses:

• Takes awhile to come out of his stance and get into his routes.
• Labored gait when running.
• No separation quickness out of his breaks.
• Needs to play with more consistent play speed.
• Not a true in-line tight end and lacked production expected from a move tight end.
• Waist-bending head-ducker as a run blocker and very raw.
• Will need to improve strength in his hands to latch onto his blocking targets.

There are some better value picks out there but I really like this kid and he makes for a great Mr Irrelevant. Marshall moved Hunter to OLB for his final 3 years but if they'd kept him at safety we might be talking about him as a Day 2 selection right now. He's a joy to watch on tape, and his measurable are outstanding. Probably the fastest player coming off the edge I've ever witnessed. He'll make a living on special teams his first few years while developing his trade at safety..... and eventually could blossom into a quality starter.
