My 3 stars other than Jakeem Grant

1) Lafayette Pitts - His coverage was good and the perfect execution of the tip drill.
2) Julius Warsley - He looked very tough to block, got great penetration and made really good plays.
3) Isaiah Pead - Good vision, quickness and enough speed. I thought he looked like a better runningback than D. Williams.

I also want to give a shout to Tunsil. Other than a couple of plays, he was spectacular. His pass blocking was very good.

I thought Doughty played very well. Wanted to see one more drive.

Grant played way bigger then he is,

I saw Fede making some plays too. That was nice to see.

Warsley too had that nice sack.

 

#1 = Jakeem Grant = All I could think is "We have to find ways to get him on the field."

#2 - Walt Aikens = Looked totally different from last year. He was in on plays and around the ball.

#3 - Laremy Tunsil = I honestly did not see him as a liability at all at the guard position. I think the Dallas Thomas experiment should be over.

 

Folks Dallas Thomas is on borrowed time, the staff has no intention of starting him if we stay healthy. He is merely a pawn in keeping Tunsil motivated.

If Thomas were the day 1 starter, with tunsil healthy, i'd be done with this staff immediately

 

There truly would be no excuse. What exactly is going on in practice?

Tunsil looked like he belonged, Thomas looks like he belongs working at Walmart.

 

3 guys from our draft class, Tunsil, Doughty and Grant looked promising to me which is really nice. Grant looked like he belonged in the NFL already and could really improve our Special Teams. It will be nice to get Landry off of return duty. Doughty looked pretty good, yeah its preseason and the competition was backup quality but hey he's a 7th rounder getting his feet wet, really couldn't have asked for any more out of him. Tunsil should be starting over Thomas which is obvious and obviously an upgrade.

Another player I would like to mention, Dominique Jones.

 

I've always liked Fede. Any word on him? Looks like he got dinged up on that TFL play where he sort of pulled the back over him.

I was watching Chris McCain and really liked him. On a mission. Still young. Thought his penetration was good.

 

I am Jakeem Grant's unconscionable sense of peanut butter jelly time...

 

IMO, good against the run, poor against the pass

 

Who is that?

 

Very powerful player with a ton of strength and energy. I only have one beef with his play... not enough awareness of where he is on the play. I saw him drive his man past the play a few times, right past Nassib. If he would have disengaged he could have had a couple nice sacks on Nassib and a couple of nice tackles for a loss, instead he rode his guy all the way out of the play. Get the blinders off of him and he could be a hell of a player... I was very impressed with him otherwise.

not impressed with fede as most of you are, he better be stout against the run over the next few weeks, because he gives you nothing in terms of rushing the passer.

You guys are surprised how small Jakeem Grant looked out there, for me that surprise was on Kiki Alonso..thats our "modern day" MLB looking like a S out there

 

I was intrigued by him too until I saw we were his 10th team and he has just three career receptions to show for it in 13 games. But he has been trying to crack the league since 2011, so there is no quit in him either. Got to like that I guess.

 

Any list of standouts from the game starts with Jakeem Grant and truthfully it might end there because I'm not sure anyone else had a dominating performance. You know there were some guys that kind of intrigued here and there. But it's really Jakeem and everyone else.

DE Chris McCain
LB Mike Hull

If I expanded that list any more than that I fear it would be a useless list.

I didn't watch the entire game, but good stuff, CK. I could see him being used in a Darren Sproles kind of role.

 

I missed the game as well; anyone remember more about the play of Mike Hull?? And does anyone know what is wrong with Zach Vigil?? I'm very concerned about our LB depth. Extremely concerned actually.

 

Yeah, I thought the LBs looked pretty weak. Kiko Alonso got run over at the goal line. There were some bad angles/missed tackles from that group. They did not look strong. I think the D-line will have to help with some of the weaknesses of that group. I'm actually not as concerned with the secondary. Linebackers, not so much.

 

Hull had couple plays, but seemed to be a step late. Vigil is out with injury I believe.

 

Thank you CK, I never got to see all his highlights. So much fun to watch.

 

The 9-wide defense that we're going to run is dependent on a strong dline. Which made the starting LBs look worse cause the starting Dline didn't play.

That said, kiko is definitely a fast lb. He's got the quickness to go sideline to sideline.

 

I thought Warmsley popped. Paysinger had a good game and Pead made the team. Maybe move Dalls Thomas to the other side of the line, he plays better for them. Carroo may be somebody too. Hewitt made a few plays. #92 was in midseason form, got to get his autograph when they get here.

 

do you think a guy like Kiko that has had all the injuries could just mentally not be there? Like, crap I don't want to get hurt again.

 

Would make sense especially a mindset for the preseason. It is encouraging that he was in position to make some big plays though.

Thanks for clearing that up! So that's why they looked the way they did.

Kiko had some opportunities and didn't impress with them in the few plays I paid attention to him.

 

His lack of pass rushing moves bothers me. He doesn't have a spin, rip, slap of shoulder, punch, or really anything. He just engages. One play he got a really good jump, which could have been really effective if he used a rip. Instead he just enganged.

I do not know if he was just supposed to engage and just try to get pressure in case of running or something like that. Just watching, it looks like he has no way to get off of the blocker once engaged in pass rush.
