Miami ended the season 17th overall in offence. If i am reading this stat correct Miami had 245 3rd down attempts and completed 120 of them making 49% completion rate. The Colts where the only other team to have this high of a completion rate with 193 attempts and 95 complete for 49% also. Comparing with the number one offence for this season the Saints 197 attempts and completing 88 for 45% complete. Bottom where 49ers 218 attempts 65 complete for 30% Raiders where 213 attempts 63 complete for 30% Miami was #1 in 3rd down attempts and tied with Colts at #1 in completing them. Is this a good thing or should we be getting more 1st downs before we get to 3rd? How can we improve on this to convert that stat into more points at the end of the day? Just something to maybe help dictate the upcoming needs.
an obvious tribute to our fledgling offense & an outstanding Orca-5 this is a good thing staying on the field is always a good thing and the best indication you are consistently winning the line of scrimmage as our passing game opens & improves in talent & performance the third down element will consistently translate into wins... it is what it is: an indication of things to come & something to build on
Great that we're making them when it counts, but it would be nice to not have to rely on 3rd down. It just goes to show, to me, that our offense is good, but not great yet.
Say what you want about our receivers but they were clutch all season long on 3rd downs. Henne too. Along with Polite of course on short yardage situations.
We were that good because we stayed out of third and long. This is a credit to Sparano, Henning, and the team. We played with the cards, and talent, we were dealt. I would expect that number to go down this coming season, as I see Henne taking more chances in the passing game.
