worst draft ever love this explanation for a draft pick. I thought a third grader wrote it 53. San Francisco 49ers: Brian Price, DT, UCLA The 49ers get a good DT here because the 2010 NFL Mock Draft is full of good DT’s this year.
steve smith would probably be a decent one. It is funny but USC is quickly becoming the receiver equivalent of a Tedford QB
Make of it what one should make with every 4 round mockdraft published in December: Throw it in the bin
Keyshawn? Steve Smith? Nothing wrong with Williams, a fundamentally sound player who GETS it. Mike Johnson is a very good LG. The critical thing about him is that he hasn't skipped a beat since losing Andre Smith from his left side and the big old oak of a center whose name inexplicably escapes me now. I think Keiland Williams is a very good player. I don't agree with the Scott pick, but if you shifted that pick 3 to AJ Edds - I don't think he lasts that long - then that's not a bad start. Seen better. Seen worse.
Its not awful in terms of talent but it really doesn't fill positions of need. Why are we taking 2 RBs? Why are we going high after a guard when we have decent ol depth? First three rounds are for starting players. Get some LB's, TE's, and safety help in there
Its early I don't like the first pick at all but I think we do in fact get versatile Linemen at some point in the draft. Not a fan of the doubling up on Runningbacks unless we don't resign Ronnie and Ricky doesn't retire.
I have said it before ... but I really think the logical or widely predicted picks are what you see in most Mocks ... then there are the ones that make you scratch your head and realize that the Mockee either 1. Didnt do any research into the pick or 2. Hates the team he makes a ******ed pick for ... or 3. Both
Caldwell was the C, Smith was the LT. Right name. p.s. I misread the post- yeah, it's Antoine Caldwell. Heck of a player.
Keyshawn as drafted last century Boom, since then the list of USC Wr busts is long and impressive: R Jay Soward Keary Colbert Dwayne Jarret Mike Williams
I wasn't trying to show Boomer up, however to me USC Wr have earned a poor reputation once they reach the NFL, to it is a similar case with Florida DE who supposedly can rush the passer, since at least the mid 80's UF DE's just rarely pan out. Clifford Charlton to Huey Richardson to Derrick Harvey.
Yes adamp, you actually have to wait for them to be drafted and play a bit before they can be called..bus..err.."disappointments". Imho when a College program starts churning out players who were "blue chip High School All Americans" and they make it to the NFL and consistently fail, that College Program will begin a downwards slide.
you dont draft WR from USC. You draft LB, Safety, DL, OL and RB. That what they are known for. QB and WR are average from USC.
Yeah the only thing I can TRULY knock about that mock from the Miami standpoint is having us take both LSU runners in back to back rounds...just seems gimmicky and highly unlikely. Not the biggest fan of Mike Johnson but I don't think it would be a terrible pick, either. I'd rather have Jon Asanoah since the guy has both players available at that spot. I think Asanoah has the mobility that you want in a left guard. Now...all that said, the whole thing seems like amateur hour. Why do I say that? Well, to have ANY defensive player, as good as Eric Berry is, go ahead of Ndamukong Suh...is just dumb. One could easily argue it dumb to have any player period taken ahead of Suh but I won't fault you if you've got a QB ahead of him because teams covet QBs. To have someone taking a SAFETY ahead of Suh, again even one as good as Berry...right away you're setting a bad tone with your mock because there's nothing defensible about the very first prediction in your mock draft. From there, Marvin Austin down at #61? Interesting, I guess. Brandon Graham in the late third round is a...bold...stroke. Having Tony Pike go #44 overall to the San Francisco 49ers, and then #103 overall to the Oakland Raiders would certainly be a feather in this guy's cap if it actually happened. That Al Davis, he never plays by the rules...
What I wonder, about this issue anyway, is whether the coaching of these guys at WR is really all it's cracked up to be. That was something they cited about Pat Turner was knowing he got good coaching. But evidently he's so horribly unrefined in practice that maybe you do start to question the coaching. Maybe you also question the dedication to hard work (or lack thereof) that these guys come into the league with, since you've now seen it first hand. The only WR to make it since USC has become the powerhouse that they've become in the recent decade...has been Steve Smith. Outside of Steve Smith, Mike Williams was notoriously lazy, Dwayne Jarrett is notoriously lazy (getting called out by the Utah Steve Smith), and the complaint I've seen about Patrick Turner is too much of a laissez faire attitude. Every rule has its exception. Is Steve Smith the rule, and Turner, Jarrett and Williams are the three exceptions? Or are Turner, Jarrett and Williams the rule and Steve Smith is the exception? And how does that apply to Damian Williams? Dan Henning has some personal experience with Keary Colbert...I don't know if that experience is good or bad though from a work ethic and refinement standpoint. He certainly hasn't been a very good player.
I'm counting on Williams as an Arkansas receiver! As for Berry going over Suh, I only saw Miami's draft, otherwise I would have duly rubbished that.
He changed it today... He has us taking Mount Cody with the 19th overall. this guy is smoking the drapes. It's happened before...... a popular College dominating DT going this late..in Vince Wilfork... but if you really look at it...there is gonna be a run on DT's early...and if McCoy goes early...somebody will get nervous and take Cody. No way he makes it to 19. Not this year.
I don't see ANY scenario where Gerald McCoy doesn't go top 5 and frankly, I'll be monumentally surprised if he doesn't go top 3. Suh might be a once in a generation type and whilst he's more rounded, more dominant, McCoy is quicker off the snap. With Soliai, I don't think Miami takes Cody because I think they mix it up with a big stout fella and a someone smaller and quicker.
That's how I see it. I see it pretty much the same way....all three going in the top 10 with Suh as a lock at #1. McCoy as the 2nd DT taken...and somebody either trading up nervously or somebody getting DT tourrettes and taking Cody in the top 10. it happenes every year with a certain position where it is perceived that the drop from #3 to #4 is steep....and they reach because of it. DT is the position this year.
But beyond those three, there's some quality interior defenders who might make things a lot more interesting in that first stanza.
Boom...I would be interested in what you think about Sergio Kindle of Texas. I think he is Joey Porter 10 years ago..... would be interested to read something detailed in a thread of it's own. I have heard that he will put legendary workouts by Roy Williams and Ricky Williams (Longhorn pro day's) to shame.
with this QB class, and the talent of Suh, even if you did need a QB, you would be stupid to take one in this years class over Suh.
