Bad enough for heads to roll, Sherman or Ireland to be fired, or any other big changes to be made. Only because expectations were to improve, and those expectations were met. Worst 8-8 I've ever seen...win the tough ones, crap the bed in the "easy" ones.
need a new O-line, O-coordinator, and someone to light a fire under their asses...clearly that wasn't being done as they didn't show up in the most critical games.
love my Phins but is getting really old year after year...still having to hang hat on Marino years. But I'll be back for more heartbreak next year, and the year after that, and after that, etc.
praying that changes soon.

Disagree. The manner in which this 8-8 season unfolded is more than enough for heads to roll. There were clear deficiencies by the coaching staff and the general manager that were direct contributors to some of this season's most awful loses.

^^^the big positive IMO is that Tannehill definitely improved. HUGE positive. Hate on the guy if you want, but it's only his 2nd year, and you can't dispute the fact that he was better this year. Should take a QB 3-4 years in most cases to know what he will truly be, and while jury's still out, I like the direction he's headed. Let's just get him a line...

Maybe the last two games will light a fire under Ross' tukkis.. The O line flat inhaled vigorously enough to explain the vacuum around the planet. Two MLB's acted like they needed someone to personally guide them to the point of attack on defense. The D-backs still cannot get within 5 yards of the receivers on most plays until after they have caught the ball (wasn't Coyle supposed to be an expert in this area?) And, there is not enough fire on this team collectively to light a piece of toilet paper!
Each year we wait with bated breath to see what happens, and each year seems to end with a whimper!Ophinerated likes this. -

You should not bring in a new GM with a coach in place. It will be so much more less attractive to land a quality GM that way.

When you start 3-0 and end 8-8 and out of the playoffs, it is enough.
When you have to win ONE game against the Bills and Jets at the end of the season and can't do it, it is enough.
When you go 4-5 against teams on your schedule that are .500 or less, it is enough.
In other words....it's enough.MAFishFan, dolfan22, Ophinerated and 4 others like this. -
Gave away games to Tampa,Buffalo, and the Jets. No excuse for those losses. We should be in the playoffs.

fire everyone. philbin not einning these two games means he will never have it when it matters

Yes it is. After a big spending spree, after a 3-0 start, needing 1 win in the final two games against teams with losing records and getting destroyed in every way by both without even putting up a fight, not having made the playoffs in 5 years. It's a huge failure.

I had us at 7-9 so many close games this year we could of finished with 12 or 5 wins it felt like. I dunno how i feel about the coaching staff our offense is really poor and our defensive schemes seemed weak. I just dont see them getting a new gm and keeping the coach its possible but not likely. So unless they want philbin gone i bet irelands survives again and they just scape goat the oc/dc.

I kind of agree with the OP in that I would be surprised if we clean house. Now do I THINK we should clean house? Absolutely. Somehow I think these guys will talk Ross into giving them one more year. Hopefully Ross saw the last two games and the light went on. That or he has some good owners that he can sit down with and really go over what they would do in this spot. Hopefully he gets good advice outside of the organization and makes the right moves.

Well, there is one other point here... Whether or not either of these guys go is probably more dependent on what the results of the bully-gate investigation are rather than the piss poor results of this season.... And I have to somewhat correct myself on the results of the season, in that the actually finished better than I thought they would. However, it still stinks how this group... FO, staff, coaches and players ... Ended the season, once again cowhering away instead of fighting...

For the game today, it progressed much the way I suspected save for one critical factor...the injury to Hartline. He had been targeted 5 times up to that point and was poised for a big game. His loss ultimately meant the loss of the game. We knew Geno was using his legs more and we knew we'd give up 130+ on the ground. This wasn't going to be a repeat of the previous game.
As for the season, I think we have some glaring issues. Run defense was critically woeful and was as much an issue as the 58 sacks allowed. We still struggle with TEs and our LBs lack of coverage skills ultimately took Jones out of his Polamalu-esque role. As well, our power running game was woeful.
With these shortcomings in mind, I'm convinced our defensive issues are strictly personnel-based and not so much coaching. Ellerbe and Wheeler are barely starting caliber LBs in all facets and it crippled the defense.
Our issues on offense are as much scheme/coaching based as they are personnel based. Our lack of imagination and overall predictability put too much pressure on an over-matched offensive line and a developing QB. Bottom line on Tannehill, he's an average QB who has a chance to develop into a top starter. But he's not good enough right now to overcome the deficiencies up front, in the backfield or in the press box.
Further, we need more consistency from the kicking game and more of a threat in the return game.
When I'm motivated, I'll outline what I think we need to do going forward.
