While the Miami Dolphins are busy cleaning out their lockers in Davie, a prospect for new coach wants the team owner to clean house.
Bill Cowher has been rumored for the past few weeks to be really interested in bringing his talents to Miami Gardens, but now a report has surfaced that the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach would have a few conditions before meeting with Stephen Ross.
One, of course, is a given. Current coach Tony Sparano has to be fired. But Cowher wants GM Jeff Ireland gone too, according to NFL.com.
The report quotes a source close to Cowher, who claims the CBS football analyst wants total control of football personnel decisions and about $8 million per year to right the ship in Miami.

I'm for it. DO IT ROSS !
-
I really like Ireland's draft record. I like it enough to give the job to Gruden or Harbaugh. Even with 2009's second and third round busts, the team is considerably more talented each year.

keep dreaming cowher

What exactly has Cowher done to be in charge of player personnel decisions?
What are his qualifications for doing that job?late again likes this. -

If I'm Ross, I do it and don't look back. Ireland hasn't inspired as much confidence in me as some of you all. Hell, he obviously doesn't know an NFL caliber QB when he sees one. So, why not let Cowher have full control? Honestly, could he do any worse?

No one knows who picked henne. Maybe Ireland said pick a QB first and Parcells said no. We don't kow. I do say if Cowher wants to hire his own Personnel guy, I would say OK to a point. Would this guy go and get the guys to fit Cowhers system and Cowher would just coach them, or would he just be a figurehead who does what Cowher wants. But if he wants to buy all the groceries and be coach too, I say no. Not for $8 mill per year.
-
Quit screwing around with Jeff Ireland. I was ready for Parcells to be completely gone and for his boys to go with him.
The TriFecta experiment failed. Burn it down and let someone else try it their way. How could it be worse than the last two seasons.
Beside Cowher has won in this league and I hardly doubt you see him burning value picks on guys like Pat White, Patrick Turner and Jared Odrick.
Get some football knowledge back in this place -

Problem is these are just rumors. How do we know anything except what people are throwing out there? People sare pissed at Ross for not going after Cowher but how do we know he isn't? How do we know Cowher actually wants to come here? We don't and won't know anything that goes on behind the scenes. You just have to let it play out and get behind whoever gets the nod, including Sparano.
-
Cowher has never been a personnel guy, and after 3 HC's had the "czar" role, and all failed, please use your football knowledge and explain why this time it will be different?
JJ won how many super bowls? -
In hindsight, the Dez Bryant/Marshall situation alone should be enough to get rid of him. That was a very costly misjudgment on his part.
And while I'm not in favor of giving any coach personnel control, I'd trust Cowher over any of the cronies Fraudcells brought in here.NaboCane likes this. -

1 championship in how many years?? I'm not sure I can stand another year of run, run, pass, punt offense. I want somebody in here that can run a high power offense that can keep up with the Pats and the other top scoring teams in the NFL. Cower is nowing more than a name, might as well keep Tony Sparano if we are going to go with Cower.

After doing some more reading...
I think Total Control is kinda a misnomer. Cowher doesnt seem to want to be the one to do the front office work...but he wants to be able to be the one who decides who that person is. A setup similar to what he had in Pittsburgh is the thought. -
I think he could exsist with Nolan too. -
-
NaboCane and Killerphins like this.

well Ross has all the built in excuses he needs to do nothing. He can now say I wouldve made a change but Harbaugh didnt want to come here and Cowher wanted too much. Now he can let Sparano stay and save the money he wouldve had to shell out if he made the change
-

I've already explained to you the bad picks that were made during the TriFecta experiment. I'm ready to be done with the whole mess because it was a failure. Sure there is good talent on the defense but we need to see it maximized. I'm ready for a change and this would be a horrible opportunity to pass up. We leave this whole thing on the table and walk away and we get status quo. It would be a total destruction of this team. -
If it fixes the problem then you have to do it. But if it doesn't I can't even conceive what would be next?
-
Not saying I support Cowher in his aspirations to be in charge of player personnel, but his qualifications are the same as Parcells were when we hired him. Of course look how that turned out, so maybe we should stay away from coaches that want control when they haven't demostrated the ability in the past. -
Cowher is the big hire the Dolphins need right now and the timing is right.
Hire a real football coach this time please. -
Everyone needs to remember the article on how Tuna and Ireland have blown $92,000,000 on free agents and busted draft picks! Ordrick is a failure! He was damaged goods when we drafted him that plate in his tib had a 60% chance of stress fracturing and it did. Vontea Davis hit a big time wall in the second half of this season, and should be Hakim Nicks! You don't rebuild at around a left tackle! Want proof Ryan and Flacco are playoff bound again, we are a 7-9 team without a QB! Then you have the Henne failure! Waste picks in White, Turner, Smith, Merling, etc. Signing injury prone Grove and Smiley then cutting them for injuries. Wilford, Green, Akin, Dobbins, Sapp, McDouche, the list goes on! Way to many failures to keep anyone from the trifecta! No excuses Ireland was the GM and reports were Parcells gave him control last year. No excuses Sparano is the HC and the crap offense, game management, clock management, and crap on the field fails on his shoulders!
The ****ing Lions have more wins in Florida then we do! -
Spend the $8 million a year on a high draft pick QB.
Cowher is the guy who spent a 2nd round draft pick on Kordell Stewart, used him in the Slash role, then made him starting quarterback... FOR SIX YEARS!
It took Cowher 13 years to invest in someone resembling a franchise QB. I don't want to wait until 2023 to get a real QB in Miami.
The one year Cowher won the Super Bowl is the year he avoided facing the Patriots in the playoffs. Can't avoid the Patriots in this division. -
the PATSIES wouldn't be where they are without Pioli .... so I'm all for Cowher ... but there MUST be a personnel guy to come along. Pioli hasn't done too bad in KC as well with NE Central .....
