Chris Williams if maintains his forward momentum on kick returns and removes the mistakes, he has an excellent shot of making the opening day roster. Quentin Moses With JP and JT showing competence in the base defense, Sparano may rest his two Veterans, in the absence of Matt Roth "Q" can make a statement in tonight's game and win a back up slot. Cameron Wake...Okay, he flashed last week, he can speed rush, but he can really answer some questions tonight, like playing up or down, or whether he has more passrushing moves, or if he can Cover running backs and tight ends. Dan Carpenter last season's UDFA find has been struggling in Training Camp and Conner Barth has been stepping up, all things being equal, Carpenter's fate may ride on how he handles kicking off, he needs more touchbacks. Reggie Torbor He has stepped up his game in Traning Camp and Sparano praised him, he could push Akin Ayodele for playing time as he is far more athletic Pat White he will see more playing time, he has to show he can do more than be a competent mop up Qb, especially in the passing game. Lou Polite he was not impressive last Monday, he needs to be more physical and put a hat on a Dlineman or a ILB everytime he is asked to. Vontae Davis wonderful physical skills, poor on the field judgment, this is his chance to show that he is not a boneheaded player. Jason Allen and Joey Thomas E Green was their direct competition, each one will have a shot at showing at the very lest they can play the Dime, Allen is far more physically gifted, Joey Thomas is a soild corner. Guy who has lost the most Matt Roth's fall from Sparano's graces has been stunning, Roth has already lost even before the ball is kicked off.
All excellent points for sure but I would place Wilford on there, he has to prove he really can help this team as a tight end, this includes blocking.
True, Wilford has to show he can play for us, he did okay in the last game because for all the talk of "blown coverages" or "missed tackles" that is exactly what Wilford is supposed to do, create mismatches and exploit them.
tonight: 1) want to see C. Williams as WR. noticed on most recent depth chart they have him playing second to Bess on PR & GinnJr on KR. I think they need to be able to include him as a WR to stick. 2) very interested to see Moses on the radar again & am looking forward to seeing Wake step up @ OLB. hope they see a lot of game time against Carolina. 3) thought the Orca-5 had a respectable debut against an excellent defense. want to see the running lanes begin to open with consistency. Carolina has a defense as good as the Jacks but different in their approach in the trenches. should be interesting to watch. it all begins in the trenches
Agreed on all of the above. The other player that comes to mind is Hilliard. I think he's at that point that he might be too good to stash on the PS but we might not have a spot for him on the 53.
or maybe we could teach Hilliard to lead block @ FB. he weighs 240lbs let him compete with Polite, who is already not the best lead blocker in the league short yardage is great but, who knows?
All great points, including Wilford and Hilliard. I do hope Tony gives JT & JP at least most of the night off, want to see what Q and Wake can do. At most Tony should only give JT & JP 1 series, tops.
Maybe, that is why tonight Polite has much to gain if he blocks better, in Game #3, if Polite has another poor game tonight we could see Hilliard as the upback so they can compare the two players. Wilford is interesting, if he comes out and is targeted by Henne or White, they will be testing him to see what he can and cannot do, if he produces they will have a decision wereas now Wilford looks to be on the bubble.
this is my preference. I wrote about how I thought he was a great pick for us last year because of how he was good, not great at everything. I think he could be an effective lead blocker. Right now ythey seem to be using him as a power back but i would like to see him in a fullback role and keep him on the field
Jason Allen is out with the flu... Joey Thomas just got more of an opportunity to show what he can do./
And wasn't feeley like one of the highest paid kickers in the league making over 1.25 million per season. Much easier decision IMO. I think Brandon London has a lot to gain or lose tonight too. He's on the cusp if you ask me.
Meltdown. Stepped up and gained, Q is a good Strong Side Linbacker. Nice game, the Panther's starting OT's gave him a hard time, but his all around game shined tonight. Carpenter returned to form. Solid game tonight. 10 plays is not enough to say either way. Lou played like Lou Polite can play, he put a hat on would be tacklers, next to Q and Vontae, he stepped up the most. Great game, Vontae knows tackling, he is the type of Cb who may have 2 Int's and 70+ tackles. Allen sat out, Thomas played and did his normal solid job, he drew one penalty, a tickey tack one. JT is primed at OLB, Q Moses is a rock.
You know with Holy Moses playing this well tonight, any injury that Roth may have should be feeling better VERY shortly. I think we see Roth practicing next week and perhaps even playing against the Bucs. Torbor was also very solid tonight and IMO could start to push Ayodele for playing time come the regular season as he can give us many things in the nickel and dime that AA cannot.
From what I've read, Moses and Wake are trouble for Roth. Davis stepped up tonight when he needed to most. And Chris Williams choked. What about Ted Ginn Jr? He did not have any catches. I could not watch the game, so can anyone tell me what happened?
makes me think that they've seen enough of Ginn and are saving him for the regular season. Or I could be totally wrong and they don't want him to get hurt because he'll be traded this week... actually something the local reporters said during the game tonight had me thinking we might see some trades this week around the league... this is typically a hot time for trades between the second preseason game and first regular season game.
1) Lost. Terrible game on punts again. 2) Gained. I didnt see him much from my viewpoint at the stadium but I heard from others he had a nice game 3) Gained. Loved what I saw from him. Keeps fighting even after the tackle engages him and a killer first step. 4) Broke even. He did his job. 5) I thought he played well but I reserve my opinion til I see the game on TV 6) Even. Not a great stat line but I liked his poise. He looked for his receivers BEFORE he ran. Trust me when I say no-one was open on those runs. 7) Need to see on TV 8) Corner play was good, defensive planning not so much. Too many receivers uncovered. Didnt gain because everyone played well. 9) Lost.
IMHO this kid is a gamer, how can we not keep him? He's smart and very quick surely he can be taught to block. His upside compared to Polite is over the top! JMO BTW there is no way he makes it to the PS I can think of at least 5 teams that will chase him the second he's free, count on it!
I wrote that CW had melted down, now I'm not so certain, as he will end up back on our roster by 9am this morning. Odd how a guy can break his hand, yet field more punts, yet be done for the season...
