“It was fun getting out there,” Gase said. “It feels like it’s been forever.”
The practice field, you see, is Gase’s canvas. It is where many of his ideas are born. It is where he can teach and experiment and evaluate and make decisions that will help define him as a first-year head coach.
Granted, much of that won’t happen until the hottest days of summer. What these three days in late April are for is building a foundation, establishing a mindset and creating the type of environment that is mandatory for success. He’s not going to wage an all-out attack on the playbook just yet, instead introducing it in bits and pieces.
