And the difference to me in this year and a few years ago when Ricky QUIT is, we should actually have a very good O Line to control the LOS. That was a BIG reason RW quit, he didnt have the blocking to keep him from getting blown up at the LOS and Wanny wanted to play it this way anyway. Now, on paper anyway (for now), we have the OL to do it right.

I absolutely love the idea of going back to smash mouth football. It's were it all started. I'm really not an advocate for the way the NFL has adapted itself to this new "score 50 points to make the fans happy" style. It's gonna bite them in the *** in the future , I'll explain if you'd like.
Lets get back to the basics of bloodying the opponents nose and controlling the game!njfinfan likes this. -
If Ted Ginn turns out to be a decent wide reciever that will help the running game a lot. The guy is really fast and would help stop teams from putting 8 or 9 in the box.
Also the fact that both Beck and Henne and McCown have much stronger arms than Fiedler so they can actually have to worry about the recievers and out passes. -

It looks good on paper, but I worry about having a smash mouth offense. What good is a smash mouth offense if teams can go down the field on you in 2 minutes and notch up a TD. Let's not forget we play in the same division as the Patriots. I just don't think our defense is anywhere near good enough to smash it out with any team. Especially not the teams with potent air attacks. They will go up early on us and then as the article suggests, smash mouth offense will get us nowhere. But as a temporary solution while we iron out the QB situation, I guess it will have to do.

I am loving this idea, build an O to counter the trend of smaller, faster D's. It also helps control the clock and keep those high power air attack offenses like the Pats off the field. Man I can't wait to see this put into play.

My dream of this team being like the Chargers with Saban's defense evaporated in November. -
Does anyone else feel like we haven't played in TWO years. Even though I watched every game last year, it still seems like it has been forever since football...like last year didn't even count. Psyched about having a good OL
