It's difficult to feel much anger against the father. He did commit several crimes, but it's clear that he never intended to really hurt the kid. My hope is that it ends up getting dismissed but I doubt it. My guess is that there will be a plea before trial that results in a felony conviction but no jail time.

What if the girl told him she was 18? Then that photo means nothing. If this girl's father thinks she is a saint he is in for one big disappointment.
Am I the only one who thinks this vigilante did wrong?
Mind you, I don't have a daughter, so...Two Tacos, FinSane, pennphinfan and 1 other person like this. -

I got that beat. I used to work for the sheriff's office here and part of my job was typing up police reports. This one guy called the SO to report that his girlfriend's mom beat him with a frying pan. The mom caught him in bed with ladies' daughter. I would have just let that go and not filed a report if I was the kid.

I am a bit torn on this one. On one hand, if I have a daughter REGARDLESS of age, and I found out some ******* send him a picture of his crotch, I would taze the guy myself. However, I think it was a bit extreme to tie him up, take off his clothes, and torture him. Another thing, I find it disturbing on some of the comments of that article is that they call the 23 year old a "predator." An *******? Yes. A piece of **** perv loser? Yes. But since "To Catch a Predator", the word predator has been used so much that it is almost like its meaning goes away. This is a 17 year old girl, not a 12 year old or even a 14 year old.
All that said, I would have tazed his nuts off if it were my daughter. -

fan gets tasered for running out onto a field towards players, and it's F the police.
civilian gets bound and tasered for texting a picture of a wang, and its all laughs?
double standard. -
I'm not sure if the father was pissed off or turned on....

You know what they say: Tase a perv in the sack, and they never come back.

No question. Dudes lucky to be alive. No laughs.

I'm also torn on this, Is he really a pedofile if he is 23 and she is 17? She could have lied about her age afterall, and it does take two to tango.

For the record, I would do just about anything to protect my daughter, including the possibility of jail time. -
This dude kidnapped and then basically tortured someone lol. Pretty hard to justify that over a dirty picture. It would be a bit more understandable if his daughter was being harassed or something along those lines. Having said that I'm willing to bet she was consenting in this case.

to which i think is pretty spot on. i think a 23 / 17 year old age difference is a bit of an age gap, but they both know what they were doing, and it does take two to tango like you say. i'm not sure how i would feel about it if i had a daughter because A) I don't have one and B) I don't want kids, but that's how I feel now.
also, it's a naked picture. did they have sex? there's a huge difference. there's a term jailbait for a reason.Frumundah Finnatic likes this. -
No she is not of consenting age and I do not think that is healthy either. It keeps sex as something that is taboo and part of being rebellious. -
A 20 year old in Reno has a 16 year old GF. They are having sex, which is legal b/c the age of consent in Nevada is 16. They'd been dating almost a year and a little before her 17th birthday she sends him a picture of her boobs. I don't know how it became known, but it does and the guy is arrested for possession of child porn. The guy ends up taking a deal to get probation instead of jail, but he will always have a felony on his record and he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. How about that? -

Am I kidding my self that she is pure and innocent, unknowing of the pervs and indecencies in this world? Yea right. By 17 I'm sure she is probably already on the pill. And at some point as parents you have had the talk. Some parents might even "allow" some relationships to "grow" with some monitoring...I don't know.
This father found out that a 23 year old man was sending nude pictures of himself to his 17 year old daughter, who is technically still his responsibility, his minor daughter. You see technically until 12:01 on that magical day, he still is responsible for that child, a junior, maybe senior in high school. And a man that has been out of school 4, maybe 5 years is engaging in this behavior with her. To suffer some burns on his shoulder and some bruising on his wrists and ankles as well as his pride to learn that this behavior is not OK in my opinion is worth the trouble.
I find it interesting how many people are willing to look past his lewd behavior to question this fathers actions. It's just a nude picture of himself right? That speaks volumes to me about the level that our society has reached.NaboCane likes this. -
I don't really care what he did. Sent a picture, called her a *****, stole her shoes. That does not mean someone can go force him to strip, tie him up, and taser him with vigilante justice. You go to the police if someone committed a crime. To put it in a similar thought as your argument, I find it interested how many people are willing to look past kidnap and torture to support a father 'protecting his daughter' by likely going to jail. What's kind of example is he setting? How's he going to protect her from prison?Dolphin1184, Frumundah Finnatic and unluckyluciano like this. -

Agreed, the 23 year old is pathetic and disturbed to be hunting for jailbait. But it does not justify the actions of the father.

It's light as far as sex offender goes, but it's gonna suck hard for him. He technically was an offender, but I wouldn't label him personally like that depending on the circumstances.. (ie. if it was consensual or not) -
-
It wasn't the sex that got the guy in trouble. It was having boobie pictures of someone who it was legal for him to have sex with. -
It is against the law, he shouldn't do it. I agree.
However it is just a *****. It isn't going to damage her for the rest of her life. It didn't damage her at all.
Honestly I am sick of the immaturity of our society when it comes to sex. "Oh my god a *****, send that guy to jail and brand him as a sex offender." It is much better to tie a guy up and torture him than it is for a 17 year old teenager to see a *****. -
I do not think people are being honest.
I remember when I turned 23 and one of the biggest surprises to me were that women who were under the age of 18 and went through puberty were still hot. By the ways the laws were created all my life I thought there would be a switch. I would be around 23 and all of a sudden they would look like children. I didn't touch because I know it was illegal (plus I was super shy back then and wouldn't try anyways or even allow it to happen).
I know I am not the only person who looked a tight body and said, "Aw #$#$" when I saw the fact and realize that this big boobed curvey woman was most likely under 18.
Now at 31 going on 32 it is different. Around 23 years old they all look young to me. Going to bars now is crazy looking at girls and thinking, "Wait, she is 21?"
I am not saying that people should break the law. I just do not agree with 23 year olds with 17 year olds being labeled as pedophile.
There should be a label that is prepubescent and post-pubescent. -
Between sexual, emotional and physical maturity, there is so much gray area that is incredible difficult to define. That said, I don't think you can approach a law with the "know it when I see it" view either, because then things become even fuzzier.
In some cases (not necessarily the one in this thread) it does seem unfair to have 18 be a defined moment of when a girl should be 'of age'. As someone said earlier, does the clocking rolling over to midnight all of a sudden make you a mature woman? no, of course not. But there needs to be a line somewhere, and (unfortunately in some cases) it does need to be enforced.unluckyluciano likes this. -
