http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...d-ten-notes-views-from-dolphins-minicamp.html Couple things, Derrick Shelbys wait gain is pure muscle, cam wake confirmed that Shelby is on the Krackens strength program. I heard Philbin say this word when asked about Jason Taylor as a potential dolphin coach..."we haven't gotten there...Yet" Reshad jones gettin called out...cool, maybe he'll stop trying to be a spouse of a real housewife of Atlanta and play some freakin ball. Hey Dion, go hire a bunch of your friends, take'em to ***** sporting goods, buy'em some football pads, and practice your stick move on your homies..figure out a way.. Your daily Jarvis Landry shout out..this time from big Vern..lol Oh and if you read the articles, there was some heat news...all I have to say is, Pat Riley is the mother grabbin Boss..you heard bron bron.
I'm an actual mike Wallace intangibles fan, I don't see diva ttitude, I don't see show boater, I see a good teammate..we all would like to see that he was working with Tannehill every day this offseason, but he's been at all voluntary stuff and has worked the hardest while he's here, he's doing all right as long as he's at his voluntary stuff..
I think him not practicing with Tanny before minicamps etc. when he was throwing to scrubs was way overblown.
Interesting comments about Jones. First time I remembered hearing anything like that. On the one hand, I'm annoyed that he apparently didn't take last year serious enough after being rewarded with an extension. On the other, I'm glad it appears temporary and he's back on track. When he's right, he's shown himself to be a tremendous asset to this defense. Regaining his form will certainly help out a young secondary.
And I don't overblow the fact that he's showing up at voluntary camps and staying after practice, like I said he's doing all right, imo professionals should always go above and beyond during the offseason, taking care of the body and getting the machine to perform at its highest level should be mandatory for their employers, their fans, their teammates, and for the simple reason that jts pivotal to their teams ceiling.
amazing these hi paid athletes thinking it's ok to have off years..I would be a horrible coach. Tell you what, part of the scouting process has to pay more attention to understanding the work ethic of players coming out of college.
Could Philbin want to trade Jones? That is a time they like to talk up a player to get more value? Seems odd to go from the doghouse to the talking about how good they are doing.
Wallace started off the season calling out Joe Haden against the Browns, who promptly ate his lunch in that game. He finished the game with 1 catch on 5 targets, then promptly sulked and pouted afterwards in what was a good win for us to start the season off with. That turned some people off. Then, during other games, he sat by himself and didn't participate in either warm-ups with his QB, or side-line discussions during games, where you see other QB/receiver tandems doing that - communicating. Other games, he gave questionable effort in making catches. He may not have a diva attitude or be a show-off, but he is moody and he does give off the needing to be petted at times vibe. Sherman definitely wasn't the coach for that type of thing. That is why it is good to read his positive comments about the new offense that he is positively engaged. Lazor has him excited and participating in a more dynamic feature role than just primarily wide right. That should keep his head in the game and make him want to participate more. Hopefully, that will translate into better chemistry with his QB and more effort during games, especially when the game in on the line.
Kacy Rodgers is a great DL coach, do keep in mind he does not like a spin move in a pass rusher, neither does the Kraken, Dio's move was a spin and I suspect he is being handcuffed a bit.
IMO pass rusher and S are the most impact defensive positions followed by MLB. I'm not worried about the DL, but a return to form for Jones would be a huge defensive boost. Jones and Misi's play at MLB are the two biggest defensive keys to this season. I think Jordan could also have a big impact if he learns to play with leverage like Taylor did. Taylor used his long arms and leverage to stay out of OL holds and that freed him up to make so many big plays. Jordan figuring that out could turn him into that yearly DPOY candidate that he has the talent to be.
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...mer-begins-dolphins-heat-marlins-chatter.html Barry Jackson raises a lot of legit concerns about the team. Run defense and the offensive line will be something to watch. There's a lot being written about the OL giving up so much to the DL in practice. Particularly there have been a lot of reports of middle pressure given up by the OL and that's troublesome because of its predictability. It's sort of like a year ago when we had all these reports of Jon Martin getting whipped by Olivier Vernon. That was troublesome because it was so predictable that he'd struggle as a left tackle. Even if he did improve as a player, he was such a poor left tackle in 2012 that improvement wouldn't have pulled him very far off the bottom, and then reports were flowing of him getting whipped by Vernon on the daily. If you look at the guard situation with a battle brewing at left guard between a rookie FCS player converting from left tackle (where he was allowed to play high) to left guard (where he has to bend more), and a second year guy who wasn't all that good in college and was so poor as a rookie that he was passed over in favor of a rookie UDFA when suspensions and injuries struck the left guard position...that's a position any objective observer could easily predict to be a weakness. Then you look at right guard where they signed a run blocking specialist with noted and visible weaknesses in pass protection, particularly over his inside shoulder...again, an objective observer could predict pass pro weakness at that spot. So when you see reports coming in that what you would've predicted is springing to life on the practice field, I think that's the concern. The other thing that has me concerned is JaWuan James reportedly being handled by Wake during the scrimmage. That's not really that surprising in a way, but in another way Cam Wake is a reputed poor performer in padless mini camps. He's not the Cam Wake we see on the field during games when there are no pads and he's not allowed to use his explosiveness in full. So there's the potential for concern there just because 1st round pick or not, rookies are rookies and you should not expect rookie starters to be anything but sub-mediocre unless they're top 5 or top 10 type talents, which James is not. Contrast this way of thinking with the reports of Olivier Vernon getting the better of Branden Albert at least three times in the scrimmage. This is not something you'd expect to happen and therefore I'm inclined to regard it as the kind of fluky thing that happens in padless mini camps but doesn't translate. I think Olivier Vernon between his abuse of Martin in 2013 and now his getting the better of Albert in 2014 is just showing he runs his motor a bit higher in practices than some guys do. Albert is a 7th year veteran with injury issues and I suspect he knows not to kill himself trying to block a young and hungry player like Vernon when nobody's allowed to hit the quarterback. This is an example of something I'm not worried about. As for the linebackers I've been of the belief for a while that there are certain positions you're not going to know anything about until real hitting is allowed and linebacker is most certainly one of them. The only linebacker reports I'd pay attention to are ones about their coverage. Maybe the most interesting thing was how viciously Cortland Finnegan threw his St. Louis defensive coordinator Tim Walton under the bus. You rarely hear a player go after his coach that badly even under the veil of anonymity, let alone going on record about it. Finished up by saying some nice things about Kevin Coyle though.
