Even in the no-holds-barred world of the NFL, where a head coach can get a free pass after using the female pronoun 'she' to describe a male player, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland took a moon leap out of bounds when he asked Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant during a pre-draft interview if the player's mother used to be a prostitute.
Or did he?
Two sources familiar with the situation contend that Ireland's question was nothing more than the logical follow-up to comments Bryant had made about his family. According to the sources, Ireland began the meeting by asking Bryant, 21, about his upbringing and his relationship with his siblings. Then he asked what Bryant's father did for a living when Bryant was growing up. The following exchange allegedly ensued:
"My dad was a pimp."
"What did your mom do [for a living]?"
"She worked for my dad."
"Your mom was a prostitute?"
"No, she wasn't a prostitute."
lol..can you imagine...''she worked for my dad''
-
Will never live it down.

I don't care what context it's in, it's never logical to ask if someone's mom is a prostitute. It was a stupid question in 2010 and it's still stupid in 2012. But find us a franchise QB and all is forgiven Jeffrey.

Was it really necessary to drag this out 2 years later?

SICK, MrClean, Ohio Fanatic and 4 others like this. -
You can't refer to a drug-dealing escort as a prostitute. It's too simplistic, and quite frankly, very demeaning to the profession.

But by all means, you guys have fun discussing all the numerous situations in which it is appropriate to ask someone if their mom is a prostitute. I'm gonna go hang out back in 2012 now. -
Think about yourself, wouldn't you want your name cleared if you were innocent..your one of ours, hes one of ours.Da 'Fins likes this. -

Steve-Mo likes this.

So Ireland called Bryant to apologize for what, not drafting him? Honest question. Why apologize?
-
Secondly, even if the context is accurate, somehow only Ireland went so far as to ask him if his mother was a whore. I'm sure other teams asked about his father yet managed to reatrain themselves from asking an obviously loaded question.
Third, it was two years ago. The man is like a roach that can survive a nuclear holocaust. He is still here and in charge despite all logic. Don't think anybody cares about this anymore. It's still funny, but not an issue. -

I think it's pretty easy to see that Jeff Ireland is socially inept. The only reason he's here is because the owner can push him around.

If Ireland's question offended you..... You might be too very sensitive.
I think it was way blown out of proportion. -
I rip Ireland all the time.
This is a stupid reason to.
If you dont like the question, dont give an answer that makes it a legitimate follow-up.
"she manages the finances of my dad's business" would have been what Dez was trying to say, had he actually gone to class. -

It's 100% pointless to be discussing this in 2012, which I understand is a ridiculous statement since here I am discussing it again. The OP was pro Ireland, so if you really want to do the man a favor LET IT DIE. Digging this up 2 years later accomplishes nothing positive.
Let's judge Ireland based on how he finally addresses or fails to address the QB situation here in 2012. That's what matters. -
Ireland's job is to grill the multi-million dollar prospects, right? To see what makes them tick, to see how they respond to pressure...this question could have been asked by a media member. I see nothing wrong with his hard-nosed approach to the interview, if anything it proves to me that he's a good high-intensity interviewer.
This isn't a McDonald's crew interview, I would liken this to a career changing examination. You think a future employer isn't going to ask difficult questions about your past?
Get over it. He's a prima donna and Ireland gets cool points TWO fold for asking this question AND not drafting that loser.
I'm pretty sure that he said this after the draft right? My spidey-senses are telling me that this story only came out cause Jerry Jones has a bone to pick with Ireland...or "Bill Parcells Junior" in the words of Jones himself. He heard this happened and probably told Bryant to come out with the story. These questions(maybe not this one specifically) are probably common, and Ireland just laughed at the situation, and apologized.
I like conservatism out of my favorite football team's GM. Some people are just so biased against Ireland that they even defy their own mindset.
EDIT- this article is 2 years old anyway, djphinfan. why rehash it? -
