This might get moved to a different forum but I thought it was interesting to share with everyone. If it does get moved let me know what you think of it. I really like this article.

As a side note, you better hope it doesn't get moved to POFO, otherwise they'll be five pages of screeds about how Parcells should have screamed some combination of "Get a job" or "BOOTSTRAPS" out the window at him.2socks, The Aqua Crush, Clipse and 4 others like this. -

Hey thanks for posting that, what a great article. It's great for Parcells to do something like that. He is a classy human being with his heart in the right place.

Great, great story it reminds me of that story a few years ago when Tony Romo helped that lady change her tire.

Is that really what this guy needs? Sounds like an incredibly sadistic act if you ask me. Bill gives him a magic carpet ride out west and then it's right back to the streets?

This is great! They should hire him for something at the stadium.
By the way, I hope the Eagles coach is right about eventually playing us in the Super Bowl!dolfan7171 likes this. -

So, Parcells gives the man tickets (that Parcells got for free) and talks to him a few minutes here and there (when Parcells is notorious for talking peoples' ears off) and this is some great humanitarian act? Hmmm.
Look I love Parcells for what he's done for team, and he's a football legend, but this isn't really story-worthy, impressive or even all that admirable.
Its funny, how humans always feel the need to prop up their heroes to be more than they are. Take Zach. My favorite player of all time. A great MLB. An asset to the team. By all appearances, he seems to be a great guy....but he wasn't a leader. Most would consider him one, but he just wasn't. Its not in his make up as a person. Players could try to emulate him, but he never led them (except in tackles, lol).dolfan7171 likes this. -

But i don't agree with the assesment that he wasn't a leader.
Maybe he wasn't a leader from the vocal point of things, somebody like Joey who pumps team up and all. But he lead by example. It was said many many times over the years that his quiet dimineor, his work ethic rubbed off on people, especially younger guys.Clipse, dolfan7171, firedan and 4 others like this. -
I also agree with whoever said Parcells should try and get this guy a job. That to me would be a better (more appropriate) gesture than tickets to a game.

1. a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.
2. an influential senior sponsor or supporter.
Zach was not a mentor.
He was a person who took care of his business, and did whatever he had to do to suceed. He didin't follow players around telling them what to do, he did his part and people watched him, and followed his actions. That is leadership.dolfan7171, dolphindebby and SICK like this. -
Tuna has a heart... WTF hope hes not going soft!!
LOL I liked it alot we always think people are HARD or thats what they want portrayed. Glad to see he has a real human side..dolfan7171 likes this. -

We've all been around that guy at work. The one that does his job well, been there forever, trained people, used as an example, yet is passed over for every promotion, because no matter how good he is, he doesn't lead people. -

i dont think there is any doubting parcells is a good guy....and didnt have to do anything he did.....Miguel, 2socks, dolfan7171 and 2 others like this. -
I know I'm about to lose what tiny credibility I have, but in the movie Mobsters (I'm sorry), the leader was decided by a boy. He was told to walk in and give the note to the guy in charge. One had "it", the other didn't. -

I dunno Fin D, I thought it was pretty cool. I mean, he didn't have to do anything for the guy. As Sick said, most people wouldn't even roll down the window - I sure as hell wouldn't.
And it's not like Parcells came out and told this story to get acclaim or a pat on the back. I think what someone said about knocking him for not getting the guy a job is bit ridiculous.
Besides, didn't you start a thread about how you gave a homeless lady money? (and yelling at the other woman, of course)dolfan7171, Frumundah Finnatic and SICK like this. -

Please understand, I'm not hating on the guy, I'm just saying this wasn't some grand display of philanthropy. And yes, I've heard of many players and coaches doing a lot more for people in need. -
Maybe he should have *****ed out an old lady and then started a thread about it.

I have not mentioned anyone except zach. Point is there are different types of leaders, and yes there can be good and bad leaders. To try to argue that would be pretty inane.
