kinda takes him out of the TE mix though ... maybe he can make up for Turner .... since we already know he can get on the field and make some catches .... very interesting

Sheets is a HB not a TE. I forget the name of the TE we signed late...gah.

However that has to be the shortest, least informative interview I've EVER read.

    With or without gold teefuses?

BTW, how hungry are "we" for Dolphin's news?

Since WQAM pulled the plug on Bokamper's Dolphins tonight there is just nothing to fill the void at the moment as the 610am and 940am stations simply have not launched a new Dolphins only show.

The old softie that I am actually feels bad for the Blogger crew JS, the current Dolphins staff is tighter lipped than the CIA..possibly moreso.

I'm surprised no one picked up on Ireland's comments about the Mike Nolan hiring concerning Nolan also being here would help "a young head coach in Tony Sparano".

Sparano supposedly told Porter that "I am not going to let you get in the way of the young guys (wake and anderson) progressing"

Which is an odd voice to take on Sparano's part, and I love me some Tony Sparano, I just wonder if Porter went volcano and Sparano had to eat some crap he probably shouldn't of had to in order to placate Porter during the failed playoff run.

That would explain why Ireland did not try to peddle Porter even though he had value in the NFL.

But let's face it, that is grasping at straws.

There's a good chance that Sheets has more upside than either of them......I think we'll get to see a lot of him in the pre season

We'll see, they preferred Hillard over Sheets late last yr when Ricky W was worn down.

Yeah it's gonna be dry until draft day.....those bloggers gotta turn over every rock I suppose.

And I hope Nolan's hire does help Sparano, IMO he needs some help......he also need to improve this year as a HC.

Yeah I know but Hilliard had been there and Sheets was brand new to our offense....I think they just trusted Lexy more. Or maybe he's just better...

It's gonna be hard to say until we see them all in some pre season games. Looking forward to that....

I wouldn't think that would be an issue, Sheets had been on the roster since the first couple of weeks of the season, surely he would have picked up what they were doing in 3 months?

Yeah, I do not envy them their gig this time of year, not with Parcells running herd.

I think that, and Chad Henne's interceptions later in the year are the two under commented upon issues heading into 2010.

Sparano's love for the 2pt conversion and he had some bad moments at the end of the first half, the NFL did change that rule about challanges at the end of a half, but Sparano also had some flubs.

I think some of those INT's can be attributed to just being a rookie and some attributed to being a rookie that was forced to do more than should have been asked.........especially with the lack of play making targets he had to work with.

Personally I think he was pretty damn impressive, all things considered....I saw things from that position that we've been missing for quite some time.

Disagree JS, I've been rewatching the games from 09, and Henne's Int's were not coming from a lack of a playmaking Wr, they were coming from Henne making plain ol' poor decisions.

Someone needs to tell him that taking a sack is not the end of the world, that was probably his largest repeated gaffe, going down and just chucking the ball up lead to 3 int's.

Another two came from not relating a defender's position to where the Receiver is, the Titans game in the endzone on a wheel route to Ricky W, and the Pitt game when Gay cut underneath the route and picked the ball off.

Seriously, those were 5 of his 14 int's, clear mistakes that experience should erase in 2010.

Even so........he was a first year guy that didn't even get the benefit of getting #1 QB reps in TC.

He went 7-6 against the toughest schedule in the league, meanwhile Penny showed no reason to believe he could have done any better

Not saying Henne is a lock or that he doesn't need to improve.....but I like what I saw and I can't see how anyone could think that adding some play makers wouldn't benefit him, greatly.

He, unlike past QB's, actually has the arm to make use of them.

That's two pounds heavier than he was listed at last year when he ran a 4.47 at his combine. So he's gained 2 pounds 'and' cut almost 2 tenths off his 40? I don't see anywhere in the interview where is mentions his 40 time. Can you please provide a link to his improved 40 time?

It is called the N-F-L JS, there is not much mercy in it.

Maybe, I think you are mostly correct, "but" the power running game was drowned under a wave of really poor defensive performances.

Down 17 pts removes 8 minute drives from the menu.

I really like Pennington's savvy JS, he fits what Sparano wants to do, hold unto the ball, grind the clock, no mistakes.

And I do like Henne's game do not misunderstand.

We signed him Oct 13th. The day after the 5th game. There was some mention that Sheets was out of shape when he arrived in Miami and that it was surprising since he had been on the 49er PS.
I think JS is correct. Lex had a lot more time in the system and was much more familiar with it. They knew what to expect from him.

Depending on whom we draft, I think both Sheets and Tristan Davis will get a chance to compete for the 3rd RB spot. We don't know how well Cobbs can come back.

Running back translates the most rapidly though, the problem tends to be things like blocking assignments as some Rb's just don't like to block or are no good at it (Lorenzo Booker comes to mind).

    The two are somewhat similar:

    Kory Sheets:

    http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=33538&draftyear=2009&genpos=RB

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV7ovs4f7Bs"]YouTube- Kory Sheets[/ame]

    5'11/208/4.39 Rb/Kr in college

    Tristan Davis:

    http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=16965&draftyear=2009&genpos=rb

    5'9/208/4.38 Rb/Kr

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7tM2MhqZQA"]YouTube- Tristan Davis[/ame]

But Sheets was light yrs ahead in productivity at Rb at Purdue.

I tend to prefer shorter kick returners, they are easier to get lost behind blockers on returns.

This isn't really much of an interview, just some form questions. Not very insightful form questions either.

But, who cares. Kory Sheets is my roster dark horse this year. I liked the signing when Cobbs went down, and I think he's good enough to stick despite the mass of talented bodies at RB. IMO, he'd be a lock if Ricky weren't still here.

Bold prediction: Sheets becomes our return man.

I think Sheets is in the mix, the thing of it is, he also has to cover kicks and punts, something he has not done in College and NFL.

Sheets is in the mix I'd think, as is Davis, RGM, Pruitt etc, but Sheets offers the most upside as a positional player out of that mix.

Pad, are you saying you'd rather have CP starting this year vice Henne ???

Please don't tell me this is so ......

IMHO it's 'nice' to have him as a security blanket ... but for all else -- i'd rather do without him. his presence is going to put pressure on Henne -- admittedly or not. could he still mentor regarding game management ... sure, but since they play 2 different types of games -- he can't show or help Henne be a better Henne .... i'd rather (and i said this before) he spend the spring with Marino .... that is a much better match for him.

IIRC, Sheets was saying that the 49er's practice routine was much less intensive than the Dolphins, and he needed time to adjust.

I'm not so sure it would be the end of the world, rewatching the Dolphins v Titans game and Henne was awful..

No mistakes you have the battle mostly won, if your Qb is not turning over the ball but still driving the team for scores, that forces the opponent to play a perfect game because any mistake they make will be capitalized upon.

That is the essence of Sparano Football, not 40 passes or more per game all over the ballfield.

I'm not going to say whether Henne or Pennington should start. However I will say that like Padre I wasn't quite as high on his play as some others.

He has the physical abilities to make some VERY difficult throws. However I think at this point it's easy for us as fans to be wowed by physical gifts we haven't had around for so many years.

There were some serious flaws in his game, which were understandable considering he was in his first year starting. However that doesn't mean for certain that they will be corrected. His pocket presence for instance. He doesn't have very much feel for the back side pressure, and he doesn't read the defense very well pre snap it seems. Too many times there were free rushers he should have known would be free BEFORE the snap based on the number of blockers vs defensive players there were on a given side.

Also as Padre mentioned he made some BAD reads.

In poking around looking for information on what will replace Dolphins Tonight I found that they hoped to launch the new show by April, and will run from 5-7pm on 910am.
