With the Packers winning the Super Bowl tonight and all of this talk about how great and storied a franchise they are I thought it would be interesting to shed light on the fact things can be turned around.
I know that we are in a "dead period" as an organization as far as being the team that we want to be, but the Packers went through something even worse than us. From 1973 to 1992 (the year they found Favre) the Packers made the playoffs only once, in 1982. This won't make it any easier to swallow the fact that another year went by with us watching another team winning a championship, but hopefully it provides a little bit of comfort in the idea that we can make a turn around at any time. Now I think we've got some of the pieces in place, but hopefully this off season proves to be a big one in Dolphin history.

It will be turned around when we too find a QB and its not Chad Henne. St. Louis Rams started a turn around after waiting 4 years for Bulger to wake up again. It wasn't magic, they drafted a kid named Sam Bradford. When we get an Aaron Rogers or Sam Bradford then yes, the turn around will start.

It's not that we are a quarterback away from being a good team. It's that we can't even start the journey to being a good team until we have a quarterback.

Well uab, you may look at the Packers and their SB win, for me the organization that I look at is the Redskins.
That was a once proud franchise winning 3 Sb's, their stadium was sold out week after week, then the team was sold and the wheels came off because they had a Owner/Fan buy the team and step into the Football Decision making process.
And they have tried everything to get back ontop, spend large money in FA, they Drafted Qb's in the first rd, they even managed to coax their version of Don Shula, Joe Gibbs away from Nascar Success and back onto the football field and they had some success, enough so Gibbs stepped away after a single playoff appearance (and loss).
The one thing they have never tried is..patience, in the Snyder era they have never found their guy and just stuck with him, compared to the two teams in this yr's SB, which are models of Stability, they find their guys and stick with them.
I think there is a lesson in there for Dolphins fans.Agua likes this. -

How?
The Redskins are a fascinating, if not slightly frightening, case study in a path the Dolphins could easily make a mistake and go down, all the way down to recycling a "fmr' Super Bowl winning HC..twice. -
The hint here is that GB ended their drought with Favre and ended the next drought with Rogers. Coincidence? I don't think so.
The only hope we have as a franchise is that the FO realizes this and finally makes a significant investment into the QB position.Big Red likes this. -

The Redskins have done everything their fans have wanted, from spending big money in FA, trading for Veterans, hiring the "hot" head coach, drafting a Qb with a high pick, bringing back the old beloved head coach, switched to the 3-4..twice etc.
They have maybe 2 playoff appearances in that entire time, the only thing that they have not attempted is..patience, they have the panic thing down pat, the patience thing..not at all in all of that time no coach has made it past 3 yrs..just like the Dolphins. -
I just love it when people bash on Henne and say we need a QB but haven't a damn clue who they want to replace him with or how in the hell they plan on landing one. There are so many mouthbreathers at this board.
Just any QB will do just for the sake of getting a QB as long as it isn't Henne. :az:USArmyFinFan likes this. -

GB rarely makes big trades, rarely signs big named FA, will let fan favorite players walk via FA or trade, if the packers are to be considered the paradigm, which I do not think the are, they merely won a SB, then compare their methods to the Dolphins over the same period of time and the differences are huge.
Compare our methods to the Redskins and the sameness is disturbingly similar small wonder our results parallel their results over the last decade. -

-because Redskins fans and Dolphins fans lack patience
-depends on what one means by success and were the team is heading into this season.
-not talking about Henne, I've been consistent in that I no longer trust Henne to be our starting Qb
I'm speaking of the parallels between how the Redskins have done business for the last 10 yrs and how the Dolphins have done business for the last 10 yrs and the similarities therein, recall Campbell led the Redskins to the playoffs and Gibbs left thinking he had filled the Big 5 positions, it did not work out that way because a team has to be at least competent overall, in all 3 phases, then they can make one unit elite (imho) the Redskins Oline was a disaster waiting to happen and it did happen.
There is a lesson in their for Dolfans. -
and YOU complaining about anything else?
Are you now in charge of who can complain about WHAT?
Talk about hypocrisy.
I get tired of what you are doing, but except for my letting you know this, THIS ONE TIME, I just let them have their say. You complain, I try to let it go.......normally.
Sorry BUT.........It sounds to me like you have yourself on a pedestal. -
Padre,
Bolded your responses and replied.
-using a high pick on a Qb is no guarantee of anything
Agreed but that doesn't mean you don't try just because someone else failed. Especially when there are just as many, if not more success stories.
-because Redskins fans and Dolphins fans lack patience
Don't pretend we are any different than any other fan base. All fans are impatient when they suffer through enough losing seasons. Steelers fans are content because of the continued success. It's easy to be patient when you have proven QB and proven coach, both who had almost instant success in this league.
-depends on what one means by success and were the team is heading into this season.
I think you have to trust the talent of your QB to take you to a Superbowl and win. Anything less and what's the point?

This class sucks man.
You want one just for the F of it. -
If there wasn't any hope none of us would keep watching.
I'd like to see Chad Henne work on his athleticism in the offseason. I think that could help his game greatly. I think somebody should send him the P90X plyometrics workout. If that doesn't improve his agility than he's just doomed to move like Drew Bledsoe forever.padre31 likes this. -

I don't think anyone wants one just for the F of it. Most people see how our QB's have been and are. If henne continues to play like he has, we will be in the running for the #1 pick next year and then we can get a potentially great one. -
You told MonstBlitz he wasn't qualified to evaluate where Henne's development is at this point. What makes you qualified to evaluate henne's development? Just curious.MonstBlitz likes this. -

Henning was a stubborn ol' bastard that wasn't going to change. Thinks any QB should know his style. Lee has never developed an NFL QB ever. He was the Wildcat guy remember. Those two were a recipe for disaster with a young QB.

1) the biggest screw up in 2010 was the offensive line. to this day, I can't imagine what Sparano was thinking when he dismantled & dismissed one of the better NFL starting offensive lines, replacing them with rookies & journeymen. it all begins in the trenches & I believe we have to repair the offensive line in the 2011 draft/free-agency. it is the priority.
2) I was one of the first to call for replacing Henne & I still think he is a bust. however, he's a bust that had no running game to build on because the offensive line was an even a bigger bust. traditional wisdom: establish the running game & the passing game will fellow. unless of course, you're the GreenBay Packers.
3) only franchise potential, quality players should be brought aboard to rebuild the offense in 2011. if there is no great QB option available but a great RB, Center or Guard are all probably available, then that is the way we should go. there are a number of less expensive ways to to create competition in the QB stable & if the rest of the offense is strong, we can @ least be competitive with the defense we bring to the table in 2011.
4) I completely agree we go nowhere without the Franchise QB & finding one has to be a priority in our commitment to eventually get to the SuperBowl, just have my doubts it can be done this year & recognize the immense job ahead of rebuilding the offense. fix what you can fix the right way with the quality players available now. next year may be a better time to draft a QB, all I am saying is it might be a wise thing to acquire a perspective consistent with our current state of affairs. less expectation & more patience is more or less the correct course as I see it. I would be content to have a competitive, winning season as we rebuild the offense, knowing that once things are in place we can bet the table on the right QB to lead us to a SuperBowl. honestly, I think we're still two or three years off making that run for the big brass ring.
hope Ireland makes the right decisions for the franchise -
Friend djphinfan:

I would pull the trigger in a heart beat if you are right -
There is no sense in us drafting a QB. This fanbase would tar and feather the guy in two years.
The development process doesn't exist in Miami. There is no time. :wink2: -
Well, I'd still take a long hard look at Vince Young.
However it would be far better to develop our own Qb, but the way this season is shaping up a Coach and GM would have to have a Career Death Wish to draft one with a high pick, so in that curiousity that is Miami Dolphins football, the very thing fans clamor for, "get a Qb" is the very thing they are least likely to have happen.
Ironic..ain't it? -
I really think the answer lies in free agency this year, be it Young, Hasselback, whatever there are @ least ten possibilities developing. I think we need to do it as cheaply as possible, if there is no Dan Marino in the draft, next year there very well may be:
1) something to be said for what Friend Killerphins posted about Miami & the developmental process & we will need another two years to develop a drafted QB. makes more sense not to break the bank, but go with a veteran & open competition in the stable for the start.
2) we need @ least two quality offensive linesmen, a running back & a return specialist/wr with exceptional speed. what are the chances, if we go for broke on a QB? the obvious answer: not very good
fix right what is fixable in 2011 & move on.
