Stills needs to stay healthy to provide balance to our receiving corp. Without him I think we lack the overall speed outside of Parker to dictate coverages.

 

it was an easy call him resigning here..He's a deep cat that wants to be a philanthropist and activist..and the specific endeavors that our owner is involved with are right up Stills alley..

Its the main reason why I love Steven Ross as an owner..always have..

As far as I'm concerned standing up for what you believe in doesn't make someone a punk.

Being something you're really not does.

I may not agree with his stance; but I'm not required to. As long as he is within the law then truly I have to respect his decision even if I may not personally agree with it.

I'd rather have someone with conviction rather than someone without. Whether I agree with it or not means very little as I haven't been elected judge, jury and executioner.

This is not meant to inflame anyone or anything and I e tried to be as fair as I can be. And that's all I can do or ask for.

 

It's the national anthem for our country. It's not time for a political stance. It's about taking a moment to stand and show respect for all those who fought and those who died that gives him the ability to be a millionaire playing a game. To sully it and be selfish enough to turn it into his platform is more disrespectful then I know how to define.

Seriously? His feelings? It's about showing respect. I'm not watching the game to learn about his feelings. How about the feelings of the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who died and left little kids and wives behind to die for that flag? If Stills wants to act like he hates the USA and what it stands for there are available seats on flights to wherever he wants to be instead.

 

As a former Marine and staunch patriot, I could care less if someone stands for the anthem. As far as I'm concerned, people have sacrificed a lot so others can do what they want. And that includes things I may disagree with or not do myself. As Con says, if he's not bothering me or breaking the law he can do as he wishes.

I'll never understand why people think the logo (flag) and jingle (anthem) of freedom are more important than freedom. My grandfather stormed the beach and would have told you when he was alive, he didn't do it for a piece of cloth or a song.

 

Exactly. I'll proudly fly the American flag and stand for the anthem, but if someone doesn't want to that's their right. In Nazi Germany or Cold War Russia would people be in trouble for not doing those things for their respective flags/anthems. I don't want to be like a Nazi...lol

 

As I said he has the right to express himself as do you. It is what it is. You're perfectly fine with disagreeing wih it, just as he would be with yours.

I'll defer to you Dan. Thanks for your service. Each time this is brought up I'll say the same thing but I made my point and some people won't ever get it (you do of course). Just turn on any news channel and you can see that more of us don't agree daily.

 

No problem! And I'll also defend you if you disagree with Stills. I just don't agree that a person should do something they don't want to do because of pressure etc. That's the beauty about freedom. :)

 

If he says within the rules, and within the laws, I'm good. I tune into the NFL to watch players play. That's all.

 

Not everybody agrees that standing for the national anthem is about the military or showing respect for those who died. Some would argue that the national anthem is about the country and it's political stance so whenever you stand or don't stand you're making a political statement. Whether you agree with their opinion is irrelevant. You're imposing your belief about what "it" means on others. It would seem to me that those that fought and died did so to protect our freedoms to do exactly what Stills did. IMO criticizing someone for exercising that freedom in a legal and non-violent manner is far more disrespectful to those who fought and died for those freedoms than anything Stills did.

 

My problem with it was that it's not a country issue, it's a police issue, they were protesting police violence, and not a federal police issue, it's with individual cities in individual states, and they are using the flag an the national anthem as a grandstand.

I don't have a problem with it legally, I have a problem with it morally, go and fight your battles where they ought to be fought, it's just bad form imo.

 

I think you're reading a much narrower version as to what the protesters were protesting.

This country has systematically denied equal rights to African Americans. To put it mildly. There's a lot to protest. More than "policing".

 

I don't understand how they are helping their cause by being insolent jerks. Sure, they have the right to be insolent jerks so do I. Don't turn my game time into your political stance. Go be an adult and help your cause on your own time that's what the rest of us have to do. Don't turn NFL into a political conversation, we go to it as an escape from that crap.

Leaving the mega political piece off to the side, I like Kapernick's abilities. He's a scrapper. I think he's too radioactive for anyone but maybe the Seahawks to give a shot to. I say the Seahawks because it's a very liberal team and region that would probably not see a lot of fanbase fallout. As far as racism, it's certainly not gone, but it isn't what it used to be either, because a predominantly white country elected a black president, I was impressed.

If there's a discussion about equal rights for minorities and how much or little those equal rights are being upheld, then the discussion is inherently about racism. There wouldn't need to be a law for equal rights without racism. Also one black president does not mean equal rights is being carried out in practice much the same way having drunk driving laws doesn't mean there's no drunk driving.
