According to PFF, Fasano was the #7 rated TE in the NFL last year, and #2 in run blocking. We threw him the ball 51 times, he caught it 31 times for 339 yds and 2 TD's.
In 08, he was rated #2 overall, and again #2 in run blocking. We threw him the ball 51 times, he caught it 34 times for 454 yds and 7 TD's.
These are not great stats. When you look a little deeper though, he is really helping this team.
I believe that this will be a break out year for him. I actually think he has Pro Bowl potential.
Your thoughts?

I loved Fasano in 2008, I was sad to see him struggle so much at the start of the season, but judging by the numbers he started to pick up.
I think a bit of time working on his timing with Henne will help. Those fumbles at the start of the season seem like they were more just mistakes than anything.
Anyways, it's a good sign that when he had an off season, he was ranked as the #7 overall TE. He may not be a star TE, but he's definitely helping the team, and hopefully will get better next season. -
I think that those 20 or so times he didn't catch the ball killed us more than the 30 or so times he did catch it helped us. His fumbles, crucial drops, and inability to make clutch catches drag this team down. I'm not saying get rid of him, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on him in any situation.
-
He really missed David Martin in those two TE sets. IMO that's one of the main reason Fasano was so effective in 2008. Also, Pennington utilized the TE A LOT more than Henne.

They have to re-sign Fasano first, dont they?? Isn't he a restricted free agent?? Toss a tender on him!!!.....IDK......I like Ben Watson, the guy is athletic, crazy speed for a TE, would come cheap, needs to start new, could rat out the Pats playbook...

I believe that the early season fumbles/drops killed his confidence. He did overcome, and I expect big things from him this year.dolphindebby likes this. -

subjective stats regarding players.Seriously do you think
Fasano is the #7 rated End in football?????
For God's sake wake up
They had Fasano ahead of Gates and his 1157 yards receiving...Fasano had 2 tds and Gates 8tds......
And this isn't there only screw up
How about Jeremy Shockey rated below Fasano..absurd
Brent Celek with his 76 receptions, 968 yards and 8 tds
or Fasano with 31 receptions,339 yards and 2 tds:no:
We are not finished,How about Fasano over Vernon Davis who was rated #57 out of 61 ends in the NFL
Davis only had 78 receptions for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns yet Fasano is better...WTF
THEY RATED ERNEST WILFORD WITH 11 RECEPTIONS (ALL SEASON) BETTER THAN VERNON DAVIS....
DAVIS HAD MORE TOUCHDOWNS THAN WILFORD HAD RECEPTIONS...WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE PEOPLE SMOKING...AND IF YOU BELIEVE THE RATINGS YOU MUST BE SMOKING SOMETHING TOO.
In closing PFF also rated Joey Haynos (number 21 in the NFL) BETTER THAN
#23 Owen Daniels
#31...Heath Miller
#39 Kellin Winslow
#42 Zach Miller
#57 Vernon Davis
This web site and there subjective ratings
are as insane as the people that believe in themRhody Phins Fan, Trowa, finyank13 and 2 others like this. -

another absurd rating from PFF
I just had to add another rating WTF moment from ProFootball Focus...
How can ONE take a web site serious that has
Brian Leonard rated the 16th best running back:shifty:
84 yards rushing with 0 touch downs OVER
Adrian Peterson rated #17 in the NFL
1394 YARDS RUSHING...18 TOUCHDOWNS
IS 1394 YARDS RUSHING BETTER THAN 84??????
IS 18 TOUCHDOWNS BETTER THAN 0????????
IN WHAT BIZARO WORLD WOULD YOU SELECT
LEONARD AS A BETTER RUNNING BACK THAN PETERSON
This site has good stats but there individual rating system is so flawed it is comical:yes: -
Obviously blocking doesn't count, Vernon Davis is one of the best blocking TEs in the league..
-
I will ask PFF to join us to explain their ratings. I briefly met Kal from there, and he is extremely knowledgeable.
From what I know, they dissect every play from every player. That includes what players do in blocking vs the run, the pass, catching an easy pass and a hard one, etc.
Hopefully they will respond to answer your questions much better than myself. -
Sadly this thread lost all credibility in the first 3 words: "According to PFF". Not to be mean or cruel here, but PFF is the worst source I know of for anything football related. JMHO.
I still hold out hope Fasano can turn into a decent TE for us with an off season & TC getting used to the velocity and arrival time of Henne's passes being so different than Pennington's. We still need to add a TE that can be trusted to catch balls downfield in those seam routes, whether we get them in FA or the draft, we are lacking at the TE position.
And TE is one of Parcels' most critical positions on offense, so I expect to see a couple new faces in camp at TE this Summer.miamiron likes this. -

By the way I have also spoken many times with Neil at PFF
and I still think there ratings are absurd
I'm not going to bash your credibility but you have to get away from PFFs subjective ratings
Haynos over Vernon Davis...PLEASE
DONT YOU SEE THE ABSURDITY OF
WALLACE WRIGHT WITH 2 RECEPTIONS AND 21 YARDS RATED THE 26TH BEST WIDE RECEIVER IN THE NFL???
WALLACE RATED 26TH WITH 2 RECEPTIONS
MARSHALL RATED 38TH WITH 101 RECEPTIONS
PLEASE READ BECAUSE THIS ONE IS THE BEST
Lance Long with ZERO RECEPTIONS AND ZERO YARDS
RATED BETTER THAN DESEAN JACKSON WITH 63 RECEPTIONS AND 1168 YARDS RECEIVING
WHATS BETTER 1168 YARDS RECEIVING OR 0????
63 RECEPTIONS OR 0??????
According to PFF 0 yards and 0 receptions are better:cry:GISH likes this. -
A good place to start would be to look at the number of snaps first and then judge for yourself whether the player is significant or not. -
Indeed missed the two tight end set with Martin on the other side owning everything in sight.

Football Outsiders had Fasano ranked 42nd in the NFL and Haynos 45th. That seems more accurate.
-
let Fasano compete
-
When looking at the PFF ratings/rankings, you have to look a bit closer than the overall. For example, Fasano has a negative rating on the pass. He's way down the list.
What brings him up to #7 overall is his run blocking, very important to this team.
I believe their rankings are fair, IF you read the entire picture.
