my question are: 1) how may will probably be kept @ each position 2) how will SpecialTeams work into the final cut? what do you think?
Saftey and Wide reciever are really the positions that stand out to me looking at that. I think WR's are still out there to be had and its really no big rush, you have Plaxico, Braylon, and a few others out there. Saftey seems to be a little more shallow in the talent pool, but we do have some young prospects on the roster and picked up Marshall in the offseason. Lets hope it pans out.
IMO: 3 QBs 5 RBs 4 TEs 5 WRs 9 OL 26 Offensive players 8 DL 7 LB 9 DB 24 Defensive players 3 Specialists 53 Total
Last years final roster was (on IR): 3 QB (1) 6 RB 5 WR (2) 3 TE 9 OL (1) 7 DL 8 LB (1) 9 DB 3 ST No longer on roster: 2 QB 2 RB 1 WR 2 OL 2 DL 3 LB 2 DB
Just curious, is Quinten Lawrence really listed as a safety on MiamiDolphins.com? Is Jimmy Wilson still listed as a corner? I thought Lawrence was a corner and it has already been announced Wilson would move to safety. EDIT: You're not wrong, I re-checked for you. They have them listed that way on the official site. It's just weird they have them that way, and I suspect it's inaccurate. We'll see.
A couple weeks ago, Incognito was listed as a C on their site. He's back to guard now. I'm sure it will be fixed eventually.
I am curious about what the new coaching staff see in Agnew, Brown and Wade, and Lawrence for that matter. I don't feel good about them, but I have heard some good things about Agnew.
interesting that our guy Justin Haulcy-Bateman specifically thanked Agnew for helping him out during the camp.
Yeah I see that Jeff Ireland just reiterated like a day or two ago that they've moved Jimmy Wilson to safety, and in that same discussion he listed all the guys competing at safety and didn't include Quinten Lawrence, so I'm assuming mistake. To Lee2000's point, I agree with him, the corner position behind Sean Smith, Vontae Davis and Richard Marshall looks rough. Nolan Carroll is a wild card. He made a bad impression right at the start of the 2011 season in that NE game where NE unveiled their high tempo attack and Miami wasn't ready for it. He played 21 coverage snaps and allowed 6 of 7 for 103 yards. The following week he let up a 3 of 4 for 39 yards and a TD on 15 coverage snaps. But from then on, he played 180 coverage snaps and only let up 7 of 19 for 97 yards, with 3 PBUs, 1 INT and no more TDs. I wonder if Nolan Carroll was sort of front and center among the players that needed to play themselves into shape. His rookie year showed a lot of promise which was quickly erased in those first two games of the 2011 season.
He literally looked like he went from a 4.4 to a 4.7 in the manner he played. He appeared to have to catch up to everything. If he can regain some rookie form, and a guy like Agnew can come out of no where, then I would feel better given that Wilson could always go back to corner if necessary. CK, what do you know about the two undrafted free agent corners that were signed (Smith and Hughes)?
Really? Let's break it down. Wake, Starks, Soliai, Odrick, McDaniel and Vernon on the DL. Dansby, Burnett, Misi, Trusnik, Spitler and Kaddu at LB. Davis, Smith, Marshall, Carroll and Lawrence at CB. Clemons, Culver, Jones and Wilson at S. They're probably looking to add 5-6 guys, but it looks like a pretty good nucleus to me. Garrard, Moore and Tannehill at QB. Long, Incognito, Pouncey, Hicks, Murtha, Jerry, Garner and Martin on the OL. Fasano, Clay and Egnew at TE. Bush, Thomas, Messam, Slayton and Miller at RB. The WR unit is the only glaring preseason weakness in my mind at this point. Hartline, Bess, Naanee, Gates, Moore, Wallace and Pruitt don’t really spell fear to me. Hopefully, they can find some upgrades with the additions of Cunningham, Matthews, Fuller and Moye. Other than that, this is looking like a pretty stout group.
The 2008 roster really wasn't very intimidating and this roster reminds me of that one. If the schedule is as weak as that one was I could see similar results. Remember, that year there was no Tom Brady.
What's the status on Jacory Harris? I'm not really for getting him, but I know he was brought in for an audition.
Probably FinD, Hartline and Bess aren't scaring any Defenses and we have UDFA's and late rd picks behind them. I do think our TE corps is probably the best it has been.
All we've had since the Marino days is Brandon Marshall for two years and his production here wasn't all that special, hell Chambers best year was better. But now we have lots of intriguing talent who all seem custom built for the new offense. In the past, the match between receiver and offense was never considered.
In the west coast offense the pressure is different on the wrs. It is kind of like the Princeton basketball approach in the motion offense. No big names required, no major athletes required. Timing and movement.
Adding T Andrew McDonald as an addition to the roster. The tackle from Indiana attended the minicamp over the weekend as an invitee. His signing is not "official" yet. So no number for you! http://www.idsnews.com/news/story.aspx?id=87194
I'm interested in seeing what Derek Moye and Rishard Matthews can do in training camp and preseason. They would be my 4th and 5th guys after Bess, Hartline and Gates.
There's a lot of rookies getting signed all over the league, wonder why we haven't started signing anyone, maybe Have to clear some cap space June 1 st..are rookies allowed to attend the next OTA regardless if signed?
you mean our drafted guys? we've tended to wait until closer to the regular training camp before signing our guys. As to your question about drafted guys and whether they can attend any of the OTAs. I think there are two factors to consider... has the player graduated? If he's still taking his finals, etc. he probably wouldn't be able to attend. And certainly if they haven't signed. I don't think there's anything specific in the CBA that prohibits them from attending the OTA's.
Matthews is my fourth guy at this point. After that I want to see who among Moore, Wallace, BJ, Fuller and Moye can separate themselves. My gut would lean towards Moore and BJ being the most likely guys.
There must be a reason why teams are getting their draft picks signed this early, I would think because of the limited practice schedule they want them participating, and if their not signed I don't think they can but I'm not sure?, hell Bruce Irvin is signed.
He's the only signing I've heard of. I'm sure there must be others, but generally it doesn't happen that quickly. There's usually that UDFA rush right after the draft and the graduates are all off dealing with school stuff. IIRC the bulk of the early signings tend to happen in June and there's a bunch that sign right before camp starts in late July or early August. I know the Dolphins only have like $3 million in cap space of the $6 million they need to sign the draft picks, so they're probably focusing on Long's deal first.
Moore is a possibility. Fast, and the offense is moving toward something he's more familiar with from back in college. Light could come on.
There's dozens and dozens of signed Rafs..Seattle has most of their picks signed alone, including Russell Wilson, Baltimore has a few of their picks signed... The question I have is, if rookie draft picks are not signed can they still participate in OTA's? And don't we have our first OTA comin up this week?
I think the first OTA is May 22. IIRC unsigned draft picks can attend the OTAs. It isn't until TC that they have to be signed. And I just searched for transactions and the few that I found were announcements that a few teams had signed the first of their draft picks. Seattle and a few other teams may have signed multiple picks, but that is not the norm. I think you're panicking for no reason here.
Thanks, I was only worried that they couldn't participate if they weren't signed, and that I thought the early signings across the league were a sign that teams wanted to make sure their rookies were participating in the limited offseason practices that we do have.
its coming, jeff was busy http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...hins-taking-their-time-with-rookie-contracts/
Like I said Al, as long as it doesn't interfere with the rookies participating in all OTAs I'm fine..
