I've been a life long dolphin fan. At 26 years old I got to watch Dan Marino and really started to understand football during the prime of his career. since Dan retired it's been a brutal uphill struggle to be a dolphins fan. I haven't liked any of our coaching hires since Jimmy Johnson, which was the begining of the end for our franchise. Sure he built an amazing defense by plucking HoF and pro bowl talent from late rounds but he killed our offense to the point of no return. Every year with our draft strategy I haven't understood the bigger picture.
John Avery
Yatil Green
Two firsts for Ricky Williams
Jamar Fletcher/Passing on Drew Brees in favor of the incumbent loser
Ted Ginn JR
John Beck
Jason Allen
Pat White
Chad Henne (even though I still think he didn't get a fair shot due to horrible coaching/playcallins and talent around him)
With so many uselss early picks, the most productive being the two we gave up for ricky) it's no wonder why our franchise has been a laughing stock joke. Can't blame me for being a skeptic but us actually drafting so much potential at the quarterback position has me hopeful. It shows that Irealnd knows matt moore isn't the answer. We have a gameplan that doesn't involve struggling behind an inpet passer like Jay Fiedler. (plus the countless other bums) There are still things I don't understand. We took columbo on as a RT despite there being more solid options in FA, we retained guys like soali, over paid for dansby etc but if we can answer a couple more questions in this draft such as WR and the right side of our Oline and maybe an edge rushing LB/DE I'll be onboard and excited to watch the first half of the season and even more estatic if Tannehill gets to see the field because of what I expect to be inept play from potential starter matt moore. I don't expect a winning season this year but I can finally see some light at the end of this 15-17 year brutal garbage I've been subjected to since being spoiled by the greatness of Dan Marino.

I'm liking Ireland's choices since Parcells left. He clearly has diverted from the Parcells mantra. ie: Pouncey is not a Parcells pick. It also looks like he finally did a good job in late round picks with Clay and Jimmy Wilson.
Ryan also is definitely not a Parcells pick. He doesn't fit all the criteria for a Parcells QB.Xeticus, Tin Indian, gunn34 and 1 other person like this. -
Ireland has been 4 for 4 in first round picks. Long, Davis, Odrick and Pouncey are all very good players.

He might already have with Thomas...jury's still out there. If he plays like he did before the hamstring injury..he's a baller. If not.....he's lumped in with that 2nd round curse.

the original poter has a good handle on how i have felt but I dont think Brian Griese ,Gus Ferrotte and Chad Henne got a fair chance because Wanny was too hell bent on forcing Feidler on the fan base.
but we dont have a wr that has the wow factor Bess ? dont smoke anymore crack please Hartline I dont think he is a number 2 wr , we refused to use Welker when he was a fin or we would clearly have won a superbowl especaily if Gus or Brian are the qb.
PHILBIN will be a good coach but we need playmakers and we missed out onwr and could have moved up for the other wr. -

And we would've won the superbowl if we kept Welker? Golden... -

You really lose me on the welker thing though. He's a good solid player but not a main weapon. The key cogs on the pats offense last year were their TEs, HoF qb and one of the best pass blocking lines ever in the NFL. Welker put up some nasty stats in the first half but after a couple weeks of that teams starting shutting him down because the pats have no other options at WR. Don't expect him to have the year he had last year again this year. If welker stayed in miami he'd have no super bowl rings and would maybe be a 70 catch a year guy. -

Lets just see how this turns out...Oh, and you forgot Eddie Moore in your list...oh, wait...he was a second rounder...hehehe -

I wasn't crazy about the Vernon pick. I agreed with the position need, but that's a pure potential pick. In large part it seems based on the idea that UM coaching sucks and that their players may be better with good coaching. That isn't an unreasonable idea. All the other picks, I at least liked. The Tannehill pick, I loved.

The miller pick is the most perplexing to me. In a draft so deep at WR we come away with nothing. teams will be able to stack the box and play man press all day. Our only real hope is hartline has a breakout year, gates gets on the field and does well or the bum with the goofy name we picked up from CAR does something.
I mean **** a project at a pos we needed was fine even though I think odrick could play a 4-3 end but taking an injury concern for a pos where we had a 1000 yard rusher (i don't think bush is going to duplicate that) and a second round rookie that we moved up for...whats the point. its stuff like this that make me wonder what the hell our FO is doing just like the jake grove nonsense and brandon marshell for 2 2nds and giving him away for 3rds. -
Hopefully with the team moving to a 4-3 defense, and Taylor and Langford no longer with the Dolphins. Odrick will be able to show that he was a good pick as a first round selection a few years ago.
Until he shows it on the field on a consistent basis, Odrick has to be considered a very questionable first round selection at this time. -

The Packers took a chance on him in free agency two years ago and with some good coaching he has turned into a very productive DB in the NFL. I am sure Philbin saw that the problem with players coming out of UM with Shannon as the HC was that they just weren't improving over their careers because of the lack of quality coaches on Shannon's staff.
Philbin also was able to see how a talented UM football player could produce at the NFL level if he actually has effective coaching. Because of his suspension last year, Vernon never seem to regain the explosiveness he showed the previous year. I thought two years ago that Vernon would be a late first round pick or early second round pick when he finally came out. While he was not real productive last year in the few games he was able to play. I think with good coaching and the ability to play every week without having to deal with another suspension, Vernon could end up being a big surprise as a pass rusher in the NFL. -

Hello..... McFly ??? Egnew is basically a WR, he's our new go to guy. Much better than Criner or Keshawn Martin or McNutt.

I stated that I expect more from a first round draft pick than what I have seen from Odrick so far. I also noted that he still may end up being a quality defensive lineman in the future. The only person who used the term, "bust" in his comments was you, because I certainly didn't. The fact you read my comments and took from it that I called Odrick a bust at this time, just shows that you are pretty ignorant when it comes to reading something into a comment that was never stated.djphinfan likes this.
