I definitely started out pretty jaded with the pick; mostly because I was expecting to see Mallet's name. The more I watch, though, the more he reminds me of a beefier Karim Abdul-Jabar...If he and Gates pan out Ireland should be safe.

i still have horror memories of DT shredding the bruins last year. I think he had something like 250 rushing and receiving yards and a couple TDs that game. it was unbelievable how good he was. They just kept feeding him the ball and UCLA could not stop him. Hated him at the time, love him now!

He's got some real potential. We are not going to shy away from that two back system though. I'd like to see us let Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams leave, and try and be aggressive for a shifty/speedy guy, Reggie Bush?

 

Well that is true but he runs high and no 2nd gear. I'm guessing if he had more speed he would have been the first back off the board.

 

Well, not sure arguement holds water, Mark Ingram the first RB taken in this years draft ran a 4.62 where DT ran a 4.6, than later better that time at his proday workout.

 

I dont really care about what weaknesses he has in his game. The fact that he is a young powerful running back is convincing enough to me.

 

Comparing him to Karim Abdul-Jabbar is supposed to be a compliment?

Thomas also had a better ten yard split time than Ingram. I don't think he has Ingram's balance or lean though. Thomas has very good feet in the open field though.

What makes me laugh are those that say he isn't fast enough. What did CJ Spiller's straight line speed do for him this past year? Not a damn thing. Why? Because CJ Spiller is weak legged and cannot run in between the tackles to save his life.

The best rookie back last season was LaGarrett Blount. Blount ran a 4.7 at his workout last year. He had 10 carries of more than 20 yards and 3 of more than 40 yards this year, both of which was twice as much as the next closest guy among the rookies.

CJ Spiller's speed got him 1 run of 20 yards or more.

 

Not a big DT fan but I'm glad we traded up for him after Ingram, Leshoure & Williams were taken. IMO we should sign Deangelo & turn our running game from above average to LETHAL.

 

Dude, I started out saying he reminded me of Jimmie Johnson, so yeah.

I thought I heard that Ingram had the best 10 yd split. Either way it's a marriage of power and fluidity.

I have to say that overall I'm pleased with this pick and the draft in general. I think Ireland addressed most of our needs and I also believe we will be a lot better next year.

We now have a really young, but talented team. Our defense is solid and should only improve. Our O-Line will hopefully gel and I would love to see if we could get someone like Bush or Williams to side with Thomas for our running game. Now, if Gates and Clay pan out I think Henne will be a much more effective QB. He really needed better blocking, a go-to TE and some speed to open up the passing game. IMO, that's exactly what Ireland tried to do.

I've been reading reports about how the Dolphins supposedly tried to move up into the 3rd round in order to get Mallett, but I'm not sure I buy that. If they were so high on him they had plenty of opportunity to get him. Now, I'm not saying that I think Mallett will not be a good QB, especially now that he plays for the Patriots and their team philosophy and players allow nearly any QB to do well there, but I just don't think the Dolphins had their sights set on him.

Would still like to see us with a RB who can get to the outside. Having Marshall who is one the best blocking WR's should not be wasted. Im pumped up about Gates who opens up our Offensive playbook. Im happy getting Thomas as hes got a pretty decent O-Line now to open up those inside lanes. Good pick up. Now lets get a RB who can compliment him.
