Adam Schefter was on NFLN about a half hour ago and basically confirmed what we already know. He said that he is scheduled to land in Miami tonight and if all goes well, Miami wants to introduce him tomorrow. HOWEVER, Schefter did say that Garrett has left Baltimore and is headed to Atlanta for a second interview. He said that if Garrett goes to Atlanta, or stays in Dallas, the Ravens will likely try to sweep in and try and take Sparano away from the Dolphins. He said that there is great mutual interest between the Ravens and Sparano. Garrett is the #1 choice for both Atlanta and Baltimore.
no cuz garrett would have been take by atlanta, cuz thats the only way balt takes sparano. so we start from scratch
I honestly don't think Sparano will go to Baltimore. There is likely a lot of interest from him about that job, but I think the idea of working for Parcells and Wayne's big wallet will be more then enough. If Hell freezes over and Sparano goes to Baltimore, I see us going with Frazier.
doh!! we didn't interview Garrett our second choice would be whomever had a great interview, I hope it was Frazier
If I was Bill or Wayne I would say at dinner. Listen here is our offer. We want you Bill Wants you, your our man, but if your going to dick us around and try and bounce offers from Baltimore, Atlanta and US pack up and move on out.. If your Heart is not 100% in this for the Dolphins than move on... We already have given away too many free lunches in the past...
i think sprano is going to be our coach, i agree with the comments above, working for parcells and waynes wallet are going to lure him here
he could be saying that to get more $ from Wayne or giving a smokescreen since he knows he has the Miami job in hand.
The Ravens have a much better team than we have, but would you want to deal with Ray Lewis? Also, Sparano already has his back covered here. His buddies are above him, over there it would be a much harder gig IMO...
I would take the Ravens job in a heartbeat you won't have the Tuna meddling, you don't inherit a 1-15 team and the Ravens have a history of drafting talent
who doesnt? my points was this; nobody is going to have their "heart" in a job. any smart person is going to look at all their options and play their cards right. they arent going to jump into something because their 'heart' is in it. they aren't fans they are professionals.
but a lot of experts have said that a lot of top flight canidates don't like the prospects of Baltimore because Rey Lewis and Ed Reed have all the power. They have said that most people aren't thrilled with the prospect of Tuna meddling, but they'd rather have their boss meddle than have their players go over their head (which Rey Rey and Reed will do). I do think everybody can agree though that right now the worst open job is Atlanta, and the worst job in the NFL is Oakland (Al Davis)
What this means to us Fin fans is beyond me? I still think Sparano will be named head coach of our beloved Fins sometime tomorrow .
LOL Your right it's more like a SOAP opera... Anyway I stick by my statment that if his heart is not into it, Wayne and Bill should look elsewhere. You know the situation Miami is in, you know its going to be a long uphill battle, but at least in Miami you know your going to get a few years to accomplish your task when the Office is the ones who hired you! Baltimore can not offer that, or a nice neighborhood to live in
1) Sparano and Parcells are already friends. 2) A 1-15 team that beat Baltimore and would have won several more games than the Ravens this season if it weren't for countless injuries. 3) Who Miami drafted in the past has ZERO to do with who Ireland and Parcells and Co. will bring in starting this season.
I'm not going to say this worries me but what does Atlanta and Baltimore see in Garrett that they don't see in Sparano?
I heard that the reason he supposedly likes the Baltimore situation is because Baltimore was the only team that actually picked him up and took him to their headquarters to interview him and show him around. Once he walks into the front doors at Davie and see's those Lombardy Trophy's and Wayne, Bill, and Jeff offer him the chance to return a once proud franchise back to the top, I think he'll have a new favorite and ask where to sign.
Is Baltimore offering complete autonomous control over personel? Will he own a share in the decision making process, or just control over whoever the GM happens to assign a locker? Bottomline, he's likely gonna have to work with sombody looking over his shoulder wherever he goes, so he'll likely opt for wherever he feels most likely to succeed, coaching those beneath, working with those around, and listening to those inevitably above.
Well I know Atlanta is desperate for something. They probably know Sparano is set in stone down in Miami and wants to find the "next big thing". If Jerry Jones is high on him, then he must be great. I'm sure that's exactly what they're thinking.
All I can say is, if someone DOES NOT want to be our Head Coach then by all means, go somewhere else. I want a guy whose heart is truly into football and who is happy as hell to be the Dolphins Head Coach and willing to take on the challenge of turning the team around.
I certainly hope Sparano doesn't come here thinking he can just pound the rock every game... it'll be a Wanny reboot.
Hopefully anyone, like Sparano, who takes over will realize that you must diversify your Offense to be successful in todays NFL.
I just hope he works with our strengths. Ronnie Brown is easily the best offensive weapon we have. If we can give him the rock 30 times a game and keep our defense off the field why not? I definitely don't want to go back to the Wanny days but we don't have the personal to run the spread like the Cheatriots. I say we do exactly what the Jags did this season. That's how I want our Fins to be. Ronnie/Ricky in the backfield. LoBo in the slot, Ginn/Hagan on the outside. And Beck behind Satele.
I've seen the stat comparison from when he was calling the plays last year, to this year with their ex back-up QB calling the plays. FOX put it up a number of times last week while the Dallas game was on. He ran the ball more, but he was very productive as a play caller. They were basically neck and neck in terms of TDs & overall production... I hate when people bring up Wannsteadt & Fiedler because we were so much better back then it is extremely depressing....
