Miami
REPORT DATES: Rookies July 25th, Veterans July 25th
SITE: Dolphins Training Center, Davie, FL
CAMP OBJECTIVES: The Dolphins made almost wholesale personnel, coaching, and front office changes during the offseason, giving this club the look of an expansion team heading into camp. That's not necessarily a bad thing, since expansion teams usually finish better than the 1-15 Miami posted a year ago. The biggest of many questions is at quarterback, where Josh McCown (Raiders) will battle John Beck and rookie Chad Henne (Michigan) for starting duties. The return of running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, both of whom went down with season-ending injuries a year ago, also bears watching. First-round draft pick Jake Long (Michigan) anchors the new-look o-line. Defensively, head coach Tony Sparano and coordinator Paul Pasqualoni aren't sure to have potential holdout Jason Taylor in camp, though there are many more pressing worries on that side of the football. The front seven could feature as many as five new starters, including rookie end Phillip Merling (Clemson), tackles Jason Ferguson (Cowboys) and Randy Starks (Titans), and linebackers Akin Ayodele (Cowboys) and Reggie Torbor (Giants).
