A.J. Francis, 309-pound Dolphins rookie, wants to show off his body
158 replies
“Hey ESPN you need a fat guy in the body issue,” Francis wrote. “I’m fat and sexy and I’m not alone in that. The world needs to accept me and my people.”
Francis, who says “I hate vegetables” in his Twitter bio, later called his tweets about wanting to be in the Body Issue “lame attempts at humor.” But I think Francis is absolutely right: A large percentage of NFL players are fat, and a magazine that wants to illustrate the types of bodies that can be found in the world of sports should include at least one of those players.
Deej, exploding in 3..2..1...
There's so much wrong with what I just read it's not even worth it, maybe one day his fatass will realize that if he wasn't such a fat ass he might have a job as a pro athlete.
Dumass.

You called it^

That's why they play the games!
What a terrible message this guy is sending to America's youth. Just because Mexico supplanted us as the fattest country in the world, we shouldn't be so flippant about such a serious issue.
Francis is a role model. He should know better. I hope Philbin in addresses this immediately

Not only that, but anyone that plays for the Dolphins and goes by AJ and has a last name that starts with an F, is a problem anyway.

I can't believe he gave salad bulletin board material like that.
He doesn't seem that fat for 309.
“Come on, shake your body baby, do that conga!”
He's lucky he even got a chance to try out, if it was me, he wouldn't..I mean if you don't have the basic intellect to correlate being a pro athlete and training and eating to do so, your an idiot and I wouldn't want you on my team..don't care if I miss out on some players that are exceptions..this lack of understanding is unacceptable in the sport..

ESPN Reporter: "Salad, how do you respond to these recent comments?"
Salad: "What do you expect? We feel disrespected! It's us against the world now. Great vegetables to great things when faced with this kind of adversity!"
OK, I'll stop now

Dude, how many 310lb. players don't have much body fat?
“Come on, shake your body baby, do that conga!”
That looks like all beer weight to me.
Silence

It's ******* Golden.
Yeah, well I don't really care about his eating habits or physique, as long as he can play football at a high level. The young man needs to let his play give him his 15 minutes of fame, not his fat azz...

the point is it's impossible to play at your personal highest level if your an admitted fat ass, which is completely moronic if you think about it, and disgustingly lazy.

Vince Wilfork says hello.
He is right, this idea that you should look like a bodybuilder to be an athlete is outright bull****, I can recall a heavy, mid to late 40's George Foreman whipping those body builder types asses in the boxing ring.
Gosh, guess he did not get the whole "Rocky" workout memo.

I don't agree with this. You cannot add muscle mass without adding fat at the same time. The number one priority for a guy like Francis is maintaining his 300lbs. Ideally you want 300lbs of muscle, but in reality its a very rare thing to see. I'm sure Francis could lose the fat if he wanted, but he'd also end up a lot weaker.

I would pay to see dj kick Wilfork out of camp because he doesn't have the ideal body of an athlete. :) Sometimes with some positions, it's not about six packs. It is about core strength and leverage. You gain leverage with weight. As long as you have the core strength to carry the weight around, you will be better at your DT, OG, etc. positions before a P90X session rather than after.

Did you miss the part where I stated the exceptions, I get that there are some players that can play ball and be fat, however, it certainly doesn't mean they are at their peak, cause their not, and that doesn't mean they have to be a freakin body builder, it means their personal best, whatever that comes out looking like, so be it...not hard to understand.

Hard to have it both ways Deej, their peak could easily be what you would consider not well conditioned.

You are missing the point..
Every body has an optimum genetic projection, if you are not doing the necessary things to get to that optimum level in pursuit of a pro sport, you are a lazy Putz, if you want to sustain a certain weight like 300 lbs then yes, your frame has to substantiate that and your caloric intake will have to Reflect that to sustain, however, it does not mean what's underneath cannot be at it's optimum level, You can certainly up your caloric intake and sustain a heavier weight by eating great foods and a scientific approach.
I don't know this kid, maybe that's what he's doing, but he sure doesn't sound like he gets what I'm talking about.
If your trying to be a pro athlete or you are one, It's really not hard to eat right, and workout correctly relative to what weight your body can realistically project to without sacrificing athleticism.

Maybe Wilfork would have been even better if he had been in better shape?

Show me their body and I'll tell you whether their doing everything they could be doing to be at their peak performance.

just because someone is great doesn't mean they couldn't actually be better...

packing on 300+ lbs of lean muscle is pretty tough to do. You're crazy if you think it's just a matter of eating right.
thanks to VO for the sick ass sigs.
