The former vice president spoke on climate change at the Mizner Park Amphitheater to a crowd of about 800. More than 200 protesters gathered across the street from the event, and their boos and chants could be heard inside the amphitheater as Gore began his presentation.

"It's an interesting twist of fate here in our own backyard that former Vice President Al Gore has taken on a new platform and is now a catalyst for world change," said Marci Zaroff, an "eco-entrepeneur" who introduced Gore.

"So, in essence, he's president of the people. He's president of the planet. And the work that he's doing is more important than any other work that could possibly be done."

In addition to his nonprofit advocacy, Gore is a partner in a venture capital firm that finances "sustainable" and alternative energy businesses, prompting some critics to accuse Gore of promoting environmental policies that will fatten his bank account.

"Cap & Tax — Don't Be Fooled: Al Gore Will Make billions," read a sign carried by Alan Tudor, who drove from Tampa to attend Saturday's protest.

"Gore's Favorite Green Product? Your money in his pocket," said another sign.

This is mind blowing ignorance on the part of Al Gore. Gore in an 11/12/09 interview on NBC’s tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, speaking on geothermal energy, champion of slide show science, can’t even get the temperature of earth’s mantle right. Oh, and the “crust of the earth is hot” too.

Temperature of the sun’s corona: 1–2 million kelvin

Temperature of the sun’s photosphere: 6,000 kelvin

Temperature of the Earths mantle, more than “2 kilometers or so down”: between 500 °C to 900 °C (773 to 1173 kelvin)

Watching Gore make a complete scientific idiot of himself on national TV: priceless

Gore might be able to say he misspoke when he said "several million degrees," but he also talked about drilling down two kilometers as if it were a breakthrough, when less-than-state-of-the-art drills have reach far greater depths. I'm not sure how he gets a pass from anyone in the scientific community on this one.

To put into perspective how far off Gore is here, the deepest hole ever drilled is the Kola Superdeep Borehole which reached a depth of 12,261 meters — that's more than 12 kilometers, Al. That breakthrough depth was reached back in 1989 — by the Soviets. And since Al is interested in how hot such a hole might be, the temperature at that depth was reported at 356°F, slightly cooler than Gore's stellar estimation.

Yeah, after the "several million degrees" comment, I liked the "new drill bits that can withstand those temperatures". At first I wanted to invest in that alien technology, but then thought to myself, why would anyone need a bit to drill through vapor? :lol:

He also stated that there is the required heat "in most places" at 2 kilometers, which is more nonsense. While there are hot spots, "in most places" at that depth, it's not even hot enough to boil water, let alone bring enough heat back to the surface to work a turbine.

And you wonder why this tool has never, and will never participate in a public scientific debate on global warming, as his "facts" there are equally disturbing.

Exactly correct.

He will never participate in a scientific debate as he is completely un-equipped to do so.

He should have the integrity to actually leave the science to scientists - or is he too busy becoming a billionaire?
