    Best decision possible:

"Some more big news came from quarterback Tim Tebow shortly after the official announcement, when he said he’s leaning toward returning for his senior season.

"I'm not even thinking (about the NFL) right now," he said. “"t will be after the game. But if I had to say I was leaning any way, it would be to coming back."

Underclassmen traditionally send in paperwork to the NFL after the regular season seeking feedback on their possible draft status.

Tebow indicated he hasn’t done that, at least not yet.

"Paperwork? I don't know," he said."

Sometimes I think that you see the trees and miss the forest. You focus in on the minutiae and give it undo weight versus what's really important. I think that you're doing this with Tebow and, no offense, I think that you did it with Jake Long. Try reading "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell- it might help you see things in a different light and save you some time.

As a final note, when you find my comments "cursory" keep in mind that I've been watching fooball since you were a fetus and I was skipping school to watch the draft since you were in day care or some British equivalent. There's a fine line- case in point you had a good comment re: Terrence Cody playing within the Alabama defensive scheme- good to know. But nonetheless I saw a guy who was exceedingly slow to read and react and showed very little ability to shed and attack. I'm capable of making my own judgements and I keep my own counsel. As far as I'm concerned the Tim Tebow debate is over. You're given a lot of respect on this board- try giving a little, too.

    Respect is earned.

And you can watch football from the beginning of time, it doesn't mean a damn thing.

And congratulations on getting my analysis of Jake Long skewed.

Again, whatever. You've become boorish and arrogant, and that's a shame. Re-visit some of the old posts re: Jake Long and tell me who was wrong and who was right. Some of the Henne posts, too, although he has a lot to prove still. Yeah, sure, Jake Long can't cut it at LT- his kickslide is looking pretty good to me these days- it'll be interesting to see if he makes the Pro Bowl as a rookie LT this year. Good one. Gee, that sounds familiar- oh yeah, Tebow is destined to suck partially because of his pocket footwork- another good one, I can't wait for your next analysis. Baited breath over here. Respect is earned as you say, and you're losing it rapidly, mainly because of your arrogance and incredible, unfounded condescending attitude. I'm done bickering with you- find someone else to engage in your crapitude on either side of the pond. Go scout some soccer players.

Did your friend who watches Florida tell you that? And if I was scouting "soccer" players, I'd still be doing it better than you and that has to be a kicker for you, huh. I mean, you bring the English thing up over and again. Must really bite eh? And losing your respect......you know how much that means to me?

What I said, because I wrote it about Long, therefore I know better than you, is that he would be better suited to the RT because his kickslide needed a lot of work and he had issues with speedier edge rushers. Mike Maser has done considerable work with him since he was drafted and it shows. Is he going to make the Pro Bowl? Unlikely given that left tackles have outperformed him this season. Has he done well? Yes. Is he the finished article? No. Has he been better than I thought? Yes.

Arrogance? Don't think so. I take the draft seriously and have huge respect for people like Alen who watch games over and over and over and ask questions and learn and turn into pretty good draftniks. I have less respect for people who are cod scouters who think they've seen everything, don't care about players fitting systems or doing specific jobs within systems, who aren't prepared to look at cold hard facts and who believe that every great collegian should be a pro, or who rule out players and then all of a sudden buy into them a month later because so and so actually said they were good. It's hilarious but rather dull.

As to the English thing, I always respected the fact that a foreginer was so knowledgeable regarding American football, so you got that one backwards. The rest of your post rates as another solid "whatever". I'm tired of your sh**. Put me on ignore and I'll do the same. The only thing that's hilarious is your misplaced arrogance.

    Marty,

Can I just ask, are we accepting mediocrity and draft information with little or no impirical evidence whatsoever, as fact? Just so I'm clear as we move forwards towards this years draft?

    Many thanks,
    Boom.

Its your delivery Simon.. it comes off mean. I understand your frustration, but it goes both ways. Noone responds well to percieved insults or meaness, and when you get frustrated thats where you tend to go. As well you know, I too have this problem. It doesn't add anything good to a point or postion when it is delivered mean, mostly it inhibits discourse. Ever notice when two guys get into it that pretty soon, they are the only two posting... even when some of us bystanders agree, we hesitate to get involved because it is no longer really about the topic anymore.. the topic simply becomes the medium to be mean..

... although Shane might argue this point, making someone mad enough to hunch over their keyboard and pound the keys is not sport Simon, it's mean. It's the Holidays, pleaase play nicer, BOTH of you guys are good guys and don't need to be rough on the other. Once pride is ruffled the consequences for the "next" reply go out the window, because , well, it just HAD to be said. I had hoped my post would allow both sides to come away with pride intact and just stop... it almost worked :shifty:

So what you're saying is, yes, we're accepting mediocrity?

Is it meanness or boredom with the same old nonsense year after year after year? The lines seem to have become dulled.

I have no issues other than the basic; if someone likes a prospect that I don't, that's not a problem with me. If someone tries to justify it using stuff that just doesn't make sense, then I'm not going to sit back and let it slide. Call me old fashioned. Saying that Tim Tebow will master the intricacies of the West Coast offense given the skill set needed to run that, within a year, is based on what?

I've always operated under the assumption that if you're going to be taken seriously then you do so with some basis of fact. Fantasy gets you nowhere.

I was referring to his footwork and getting used to being under center, not running the WCO. Might as well get your facts straight if you want to be rude. Actually don't bother, I'll just put you back on ignore.

I think the problem is still a relative lack of pass rushing skills. Sure, he's good for what he is, but he's still very much a traditional, stand-up, behind-the-line linebacker, and I don't think there is a big history of those guys becoming elite edge rushers.

I dunno if I'm interjecting my own irrelevant personal opinion to it or not, but
I think it's too much of a leap to draft Spikes high and try to change his position like that in a draft with that much in the way of talented pass rushers in the appropriate size/speed range.

Spikes has good speed and lateral quickness. Also impressive was the functional strength that he showed tossing Andre Smith like a sack of potatos. If I recall correctly he showed a burst and gave Smith some problems on outside moves.

That wasn't Brandon Spikes' first rodeo, either...when it comes to edge rushing. The Gators have used Brandon Spikes as a 4th or 5th pass rusher all over the defensive line formation for two years.

I think personally that he carries the overrated tag in my eyes at the moment, but I know Chris believes that he can be a very impact player off the edge and he was beasting Andre Smith around the edge. I like him, but I don't quite see all the fuss yet.

    Yet.
