all he has to do is compete & win the position its all about Allen. fish or cut bait. BEGIINNING TO CROWD THE BOAT. he could fall into the bottom third easily this year. what a waste that would be. but know its coming if he does not meet expectations. no more excuses.
That's just one writers opinion. I've always thought he played better then he practiced. Just let the best player play. I really don't care.
If Allen is in trouble, that means Smith, Davis and Green look spectacular. A great problem to have IMO.
So anyone know what the cap hit would be if the Fins cut Allen? That right there may be the reason why he's still around and/or may stay around. Either way you look at it, Allen lost the confidence of three different coaching staffs for pretty much the same reasons. I've pretty much given up on him although I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
9 if you count the safeties, 5 of them being cornerbacks. Quite frankly, Jason Allen may be in trouble, but other cornerbacks on the roster are in more trouble then Allen, IMO.
Allen won't be cut. He probably won't be re-signed next year but he won't be cut. He's a better player than Eric Green and he has the ability to play corner AND safety, as well as being one of, if not the best special teamer on the squad. Coupled with the fact that 100% of players play better in their contract years, I don't see a scenario where Miami simply cuts Allen.
Allen has had plenty of time to prove his worth - regardless of his flip flopping positions. He is not starting caliber by any stretch of the imagination. It's no surprise that his roster spot COULD be in danger. But I agree with Boom. I think he finishes out his contract, then he's gone after this season.
I agree with Boomer. We shouldn't confuse Allen not living up to his draft spot with Allen not making the team. Yes, he's a bust as a first round pick, but he should be able to crack the roster, for his versatility and special teams play if for no other reason
Depends on the salary cap. If we have plenty of room then I don't know why you wouldn't keep Jason Allen as a special teams ace and versatile backup. Will Allen, Vontae Davis, and Sean Smith are all a lock to make the roster. That leaves Jason Allen, Nathan Jones, Eric Green, Joey Thomas, Will Billingsley, and Scorpio Babers battling for the final two spots.
The writer must think that Nate jones, will billingsley, scorpio babers and joey thomas are gonna beat out Jason Allen..i dont think so...I think he makes the team easy, and gets into the rotation. I'd like to see it play out like this.. Will Allen and Vontae davis as our starters.. Jason allen and Sean smith in our nickel and dime. The Bullfrog, Gibril and Chris clemmons manning up the safety, hybrid, and mike linebacker spots.
I was prepared to cut Jason Allen some slack for being buggerised around with being slotted into different roles in three different schemes in the last three years. Yes he has produced some big plays when he has made the field. Yes his confidence has been shredded. Yes he has awe inspiring physical skills But this cat has used 8 of his 9 lives. For the reasons Boomer said I don't see him being cut, however if he doesn't force his way into the starting line up I can't see him being re-signed.
Are they likely to just let him go in free agency or is there anyway they can try trading him away? Parcells likes draft picks after all.
I would not be surprised to see Clemons as the Nickle or dime corner to be honest with you.. He is faster than any corner that we have on the team and he plays the ball well in the air and can cover....
lets see... A former first round pick that in nearly four seasons under three different head coaches and he still cannot crack the starting lineup and is hardly involved in the rotation except when forced(injuries)? Yea, Id say hes in trouble.
Jason Allen run a sub 4.3 40? Was it at the combine or his pro day because I do not remember him ever running that fast?
Allen is valuable with his ST play and versatility..and as boom stated: contract year. barring an unexpected TC performance by one of the DB's, I believe the depth chart will be CB Will Allen Vontae Davis Sean Smith Jason Allen (CB/S) Eric Green S Gibril Wilson Yeremiah Bell Chris Clemmons Culver/Kilmer/Bryan
Agreed. Thomas, Jones, Babers and Billingsley are the ones who have the biggest uphill battle to make the roster IMO. We'll keep 5 corners. W.Allen and the rooks look like locks. Green and J.Allen are the odds on favorites IMO for the last two corner jobs. J.Allen's contract details from rotoworld.com:
When? He ran a 4.39 at the 2006 combine. His on campus 40 time was 4.41. Clemons ran a 4.33 at this yrs combine. Will Allen, 4.44 at the 2001 combine Vontae 4.40 at this yrs combine Sean Smith 4.5 @ combine Joey Thomas 4.44 @ combine '04 Green 4.52 @ '05 combine Unless we want to count Will Billingsley, who has little chance of making the team barring a quantum leap in coverage ability, it's pretty certain that Clemons is the fastest DB on the roster.
I just cant fathom another high pick biting the dust, i truly cannot believe were a competitive franchise with our failure rate, we should resemble the lions right about know considering.......Thank goodness for the Tuna, ireland and Sparano.
With Clemons stepping up as he has, Boom, plus Smith and Davis, I'm not so sure Jason Allen wouldn't warrant some consideration as a possible casualty if he has a poor camp. I think Jason is playing for a roster spot more so this year than in any of his previous ones. That said, his flexibility, his STs contributions, and his build and physicality (ideal for Quarters, imo) should be enough to save him. Should be. Then again, if Jason runs around like a chicken with his head cut off in camp, missing assignments, then he could go. Heck, Clemons gives us everything Allen offers physically and on STs from a Safety spot on the roster, and our CB's are pretty well stocked now so.... Jason just has to not screw up camp to make the team. Clemons, even Culver in Nickel/dime are not impossibilities over Allen if he doesn't show up looking good and execute. This front office and coaching staff is big on getting younger players snaps and developmental time if they may be with the team long-term. If this staff looks at Jason Allen in camp and knows it's showing him the door after this year, it may just show him the door a year early if anyone else steps up as a nickel/dime back.
