I think alot of this has to do with the crackdown on doctors and how some liberally prescribe pain killers to their patients, now it's tougher for these junkies to get their scripts where before they just go to their doc's, tell them their back is hurting or something and bam they got their fix. I think it's getting to the point where armed guards might have to be a consideration for some of these pharmacies, I have seen first several times in the waiting room of my doctor how irritable and unpredictable these junkies can get to the point police have been called in.
It's not just about junkies. It's about money. I bet a lot of the robbers are dealers and not users. It's time for pharmacies to be run like banks.
That's kind of scary. My wife was a pharmacy technician until just a few years ago and I am glad that is no longer the case. I would tend to agree that most of the robberies (especially ones that involve murder) are done by dealers or people looking to cash in more than the addicts.
I work at a Long Term Healthcare facility and this is something they are worried about too because we have the same drugs.
