Hope Marshall doesnt get mad

Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that the Texans are close to new contract with Andre Johnson.

A press conference is tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CST. Johnson's deal is expected to make him the highest paid receiver in the game and keep him under contract with the Texans through 2014.

well he deserves it. that just means we'll have to wait until at least 2015 to finally beat the Texans.

    Absolutely deserves it.

Best receiver in the game. The total package. And you get the added rare bonus of him being humble, low-key, etc. No attitude. No off-field issues. Nothing.

Best thing Houston did was get him a real QB. After that he was fully unleashed. Dude caught 101 passes and still averaged 15.5 ypc last year. Monster.

A new deal really wasn't necessary. He's already making a lot w/ 5 years remaining on his previous deal.

He can ask for more if he feels his window to make big money might be closing. Greedy or not, get your piece of the pie, young man!

...and the same applies to Johnson. :shifty:

When your the best, you get the best money. Hes the best. If they can afford that contract, and keep the team in tact, more power to him.

Not only did they make Johnson happy, but this is just good business.

Other players in that locker room and around the league, as well as their agents, take note of how that team takes care of its players. The fact that they redid a deal with five years left on it for the purpose of paying their guy what he's now worth on the open market makes the Texans that much more attractive.

You look at New England and San Diego -- and NYJ to an extent, where they've got top players holding out and have a developed a track record of playing games in this arena. They're all winners, but they consistently have a few unhappy stars. New England is not the destination it once was IMO.
