RIP to one of the greats, Franco Harris. On a side note, I read that he died three days before they were going to retire his number at halftime of the Raiders game this weekend. How in the heck is his number not retired???? I realize that if they retired every number from the great 70s teams, there wouldn’t be many numbers available, but geez - how was #32 not one of the first to be retired?
The Steelers, wisely, have retired very few numbers. Franco will be just the third ever. But 32 has been unofficially retired most of the time since he stepped away, much like 54 with the Fins.
I remember when this happened. What I didn’t know nor realized at the time was the drama that followed in whether or not it was a touchdown by Harris or an incomplete pass.
I've always been a Dolphins fan and had a healthy dislike for those 70's Steeler teams, but I always loved Franco. Everyone seemed to.
I saw that last night - he had a very rare cancer and treatment was unsuccessful. Very sad to lose someone so young.
