For those who did not hear this Sunday night http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...is-not-trying-to-be-Corey-Hart?urn=nfl-272506 Sparano, while working in a Connecticut restaurant as a teen, lost his sight for nearly a month after hot grease from a deep-fryer accidentally splashed in his eyes. To this day, his eyes water excessively and are extremely sensitive to light.
Beat me to it. Sparano’s eye condition is news only to the national media, which has collectively done a very poor job of discovering and explaining Sparano to the country. Apparently the assumption was that Parcells was controlling everything, and everyone already knew about Parcells, so hey, how about that Brettfavre?
I was around here in 08. But I was also 16, not as in to football, and I really didn't start posting until the end of 09. Last night was the first time I heard we had Daredevil as a coach. Had I missed that, thanks for the post.
Deion Sanders, and some other ignorant media types, thought Sparano was "going Hollywood" for wearing glasses at night. They are too lazy to get the real story.
Sparano has mentioned it himself a couple of times on NFLN. I think during the one interview where they did the spoof of Sopranos was one time he mentioned it too. It's been out there a while, but the Dolphins are a CFL team to the national media so it's not like it's a big deal. Had this been Rex Ryan or some other North Eastern team we'd know whether the grease was vegetable, peanut, or canola oil.
had a buddy giving me grief while watching the game, for Sparano going all Corey Hart (the 80's version, not the baseball player) on us. i had not heard this before, and just figured he wore glasses that automatically tint in bright light, be it sunlight or stadium lights.
Bro we all knew, and it's the same reason he rides one of these to work: j/k but seriously, I had no idea he burned his eyes as a kid until this past week.
I am surprised that when a poster shares info some people may not know, we give him such a cold reception rather than letting those to whom it *is* new enjoy learning about it. I knew already, but see no good in making the poster feel dumb, bad or trivial for attempting to share something. No one owes us ANYTHING here and frankly our complaining when offerings are not informative enough for our individual likings comes across as spoilt and entitled. He didn't have to bother letting anyone else know what he'd read. I thank the original poster and please, all of us, can we be less entitled, more appreciative and more mindful of the communal spirit of sharing rather than whether we personally benefit or not? I think we're all just a bit surly after that Jets nightmare.
anyone else catch Sparano's presser? He looks like stir fried doggie pooh, I wonder if he caught what Ike and Jerry had?
Forget this. Get in that other thread. There's a guy who says Shonn Greene is better than Cedric Benson.
I didn't know anything about it until the other day when bb posted the info. Thx btw, I was going to write a reply but as usual something came up.
Had it been Rexasaurus the grease would have never made it past his hot dog snatching lizard tongue to get to his eyes in the first place.
It’s not about that. It’s about having a certain baseline of information. No one starts threads going into week 4 that Sparano lost 60 pounds. We know. No one starts threads going into week 4 that Parcells is now a consultant. We know. No one starts threads going into week 4 that Ireland asked Dez Bryant if his mother is a prostitute. We know. The story of Sparano’s eyes was all over the local media for weeks after Sparano got here. So yeah, it’s established information, and reviewing it doesn’t gain much for us Fins fans. For the national audience, it’s still something new, but that reflects on the national media, not us.
It may come as a shock but not every Miami Dolphins fan lives in Florida. Nor do they have time to read every Dolphins related story. They may lack the time to visit football websites every day or even every week. The question is why are you posting that such information is irrelevant, redundant or is past some self imposed expiration date, when several fans have already expressed their ignorance on the subject? If you know about it great, but not everyone else does and that is the purpose of a message forum isn't it?
