I'd like to qualify this thread by saying all of my children as well as my wife are mixed racially. sad state of affairs when you have to justify not being a racist before you express an honest opinion. I'm sure this one will get kicked around a bit, then relocated in another forum. having said that, this is neither rant nor racism. it is simply the part of the story everyone is afraid to talk about...
fact is, any white running back or wide receiver is routinely put through the hoops & enters the NFL with much bias (prejudice) from the media. our own Brian Hartline is an example of reverse discrimination in the NFL & the draft is much more difficult to overcome for whites because of "perceived" inferiority & racism.
Tim Tebow was victimized & persecuted because of his mainstream Christianity & because he was white and the list goes on...

the affirmative action, "I am a victim act" is yesterdays news. it should be well behind us by now... unproductive & unfair to all at this point in time. enough is enough!
I follow football because I like the sport not to be politically correct. I have no illusions, it is a brutal contact sport & its mercenaries are compensated well for their brutality. it is not the ballet or a tennis match. it is a contact sport as bloody as any other contact sport. they've already compromised the game considerably with too many new rules... soon we'll be putting flags on them & dressing the players in shorts.
the cry-baby Jonathan & bully bad boy racist Incognito affair is simplimatic, overblown & extremely hypocritical. Incognito is no racist & everybody knows it. JonJon may not be cut out for the NFL or need a break from the game for personal reasons. maybe they're both crazy in their own way... the game is not meant to be played by the meek or faint of heart.
Do you think there is Anti-White Racism in the NFL? I do. at any rate, my son & I will be at the Miami/Tampa game, any one else going?

You raise a valid point that there is a form of discrimination against white athletes, specifically in the NFL. When white WRs are compared to other white WRs when in reality, their games couldn't be more different. They are called "smart WRs" as a cleaned up way of saying, "They are good for a white guy". Same with the "high motor" label for white defensive players.
That being said, none of this justifies discrimination towards any other race. Calling someone the word Incognito called Martin is a lot different than the type of subconscious and mostly non-deliberate racism I'm referring to. -
I think there is stereotyping, not racism per se
White Wr's are "crafty route runners"
Black Qb's "are athletically gifted"
foolishness of course, basically intellectually lazy.muscle979, Phyl, Mcduffie81 and 3 others like this. -

Yeh...makes us proud to be humans dont it? Race has nothing to do with anything...cultural influences...upbringings...those are what matter. I cant wait for the day, when there are no more race cards...anti-black, white, jew, purple, green...whatever.

what is the percentage of black players to whites in the NFL?
what is the percentage of black coaches to whites in the NFL?
Is the Rooney Rule reverse racism? should we not be completely fair & make a concerted effort to balance the NFL across the board racially? so many, whatever the position at every position... would make it a better game? think about it.
hypocrisy & racial/political intimidation?
I thought this was a team sport we played to win...
I guess "old blue eyes" is next:

Reverse racism is the opposite of racism. I feel like I'm in the O'Reilly factor.

I was a white running back in college, think I had a sifferent standard to live up to? In the end it does all come to ability. If you can play and prove it it doesn't matter. But anyone athlete that does not meet the archetypre race wise will have a bit longer of a 'show me' stage.Lee2000 likes this. -
I like how people throw around terms like "reverse racism"( the reverse of racism would technically be tolerance or anti-racism). Racism is racism, no matter if its white on black or black on white or whatever. Either way its a stupid term.
And when you cite Yahoo Answers, you really have no clue what you are talking about.

the Rooney Rule is meant to be reverse racism but in fact is discriminatory... please read, then think before you post
mark my words, this team is very close to being destroyed by the media & bleeding hearts tearing at the very fabric of the team -
racism against whites in the nfl? lmao!!! well, all the owners are white, so are you saying they dont want their own kind working for them? lol. this is a hilarious thread.
-
there is a disproportional amount of Jewish owners in the NFL, is that a problem too? do you think we need a Rooney Rule to solicit & facilitate black owners? where does it end? flag football & NFL socialism?

Tim Tebow was persecuted because he did a anti-abortion ad during the superbowl. Almost all of the white NFL players are Christian, they are not persecuted.

supposedly incognito was considered more "black" than martin in the locker room. cant make this **** up...

I think when this is done the idea that this is a "hate" crime will be dispelled. I view this as an unfortunate failed attempt to help a guy. I think Richie in his own way was trying to do that. He was trying to be a leader. I do hold coaches or the coach who put Richie up to this if that is born out in the facts accountable to some degree.

Most players in the NFL are Christians. -
like I said hubris, unthought-out, an inaccurate statement...do we need a Rooney Rule to address religious inequality in the NFL too?
let the cream rise to the top... every monkey on his limb. competition is the elixir of success! the only color that interest me is aqua & orange.
just hope these bleeding hearts & liberal media don't tear apart the the dolphin-family. this garbage has the potential to set Miami back to square one & I don't like it. enough of this hypocrisy... -

Tebow sold his brand. He is beloved and he is hated on. No one tossed him into a pit with lions so enough of the persecution bull****. He had people like him simply because he was Christian as well as hate on him. He also had people like him/dislike him due to his play on the field.

Funny, because if the reports are true that a member of the coaching staff put Richie up to this, then there is no doubt in my mind who it was: Jim Turner.

While I find Incognito's words personally offensive and would have a problem if he used them toward me - one has to realize that the advent of Rap music (which I enjoy a great deal, musically, without the language) has changed the way many people talk. In many ways he's reflecting a cultural way of speaking that is very much a part of both the NFL player culture (or at least a sub-culture of it) and part of a segment of our culture in general.
What no one really knows is a) how Incognito intended those remarks - a sort of half-joking, friendly trash-talking (given that culture) or b) whether that was part of the banter of the whole locker room, OL, and even between Incognito and Martin. So much of it is perspective. If Martin was intimidated and troubled by Incognito - no one seems to have known about it.
It is possible - given the NFL - that he thought he'd be perceived negatively by both his teammates and his coaches if he went to them about this; and perhaps felt uncomfortable even talking with Incognito (who - even if well liked - can be intimidating). It may be just a difficulty of human interaction going on - and the fact that stuff got out, now the league and society are going off on the situation.
Interestingly enough, I think it is more the "speak nicely" white media culture that is reacting negatively to Incognito (though some players are seeing this as something they would not tolerate - yet they themselves don't know the context of those words nor the actual relationship of the players).
It really is in the hands of Martin, in my view. In many ways I think Incognito's future is in Martin's hands (whether Incognito did anything bad to him or not). If Martin tells the league and the Dolphins - "I have never really had a problem with him - it's not him, it's my own issues" then I think Incognito plays again (even if with someone else). But, if he says, "Yeah, he treated me miserably and it caused a lot of problems" - then that will be a problem for RI. But, even then, it will likely be a bit of a problem for Martin to enter into an NFL locker room again - however politically correct other players say things verbally. The reality is, they will all (especially those who got along with Incognito and didn't see any real problems with him) be walking on eggshells around Martin - afraid to offend or get something recorded. That's the reality of it for him. He will have a hard time developing good camaraderie with his OL teammates, in my opinion, regardless of how justified he may be (just speaking realistically).
But, as far as racism against whites - I just think we have to recognize, as much as it may trouble some that there are times where a white person is discriminated against (and that can be unjust) the reality is, there has been so much injustice done to blacks in this country for centuries (even after the emancipation proclamation and the end of the Civil War, blacks were treated ostensibly as slaves for nearly another 100 years in the south; to say nothing of general discrimination that went on and the white flight and brain drain that all inner cities have experienced the past 50 years or so) - that one has to recognize those cries fall on deaf ears. -
Right up until Richie sent that text. :nono: -

The following is the rankest kind of speculation:
What if it wasn't really racism? What if it was mostly a class thing, and the racism was secondary? What if Martin was an upper-class, genteel, articulate, highly educated Stanford graduate, son of two Harvard lawyers, not at all a street kid from the 'Hood; and Incognito, who is white, was from a blue collar working class background and somewhat thuggish? What if the root of the problem is that the kid is perceived as too "civilized," too "finesse," and you add in the racial stereotypes being reversed? Does the coach tell his enforcer to take Martin down off his Stanford-boy high horse and teach him how to be more brutal? -
I get tired of everything being blamed on racism when it isn't so....this included.

Yet Tebow's failure to hide his faith in public has become a anathema because of those who wish Christians would just shut up and go away. I mean, let's face it - it's not cool to have and display faith - when so much of the commercialism depends on the satisfaction of our every desire for whatever it is we think we want/need.
