They talked about various things, including whether or not to trade Jason Taylor. Bill Parcells says he wants to keep the good players and gather more good players. He also says that last time he checked Jason Taylor is a great player. He also discussed stuff like the draft, whether to trade down or not. Essentially he said that he has to evaluate the whole situation before deciding what to do with the draft, coaching situation, etc. EDIT: Oh yeah, Merry Christmas all!
I've been watching him, I think it's great. He gives a lot of insight into us fans. I like the last bit where Keyshawn "translated" for Bill...."I have the #1 pick and you better not hold out!"
I'am starting to understand a new perspective in the NFL, which is getting young players just for the fact that their young and fast is HIGHLY OVERRATED. the perspective is on perfect display in new england, they covet smart physical football players no matter the age and i'am starting to see why they have that perspective, the difference of speed from when you are 35 compared to 30 is NOT THAT MUCH, the difference of intelligence and experience is monumental, the purpose of writing this post is to express that jason taylor and zach thomas are perfect for bill parcells football, their smart, instinctive with locker room presense. I will go out on a limb and say that bill will keep both and not even think twice about it. As i'am writing i just watched bill talk and say goodbye on monday night countdown.... I TRULY COULD LISTEN TO THAT MAN TALK FOR HOURS AND HOURS. I swear i just got a little choked up because of how smart he is and how lucky we are for him to run our beloved dolphins. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.
Sounds to me like he's being more involved then a lot of people re claiming. I think anyone who honestly thinks Bill isn't going to be acting as our GM, atleast for the first year or so, is fooling themselves. He's going to be running the show from the top to the bottom for the first year. Later on he may relinquish most of the GM duties to whoever he hires to be GM, but for the first couple months im positive he'll be making almost every move himself.
Watched it, though it was a great interview, especially the questions centered around Tuna watching the Patriot's game. He said he was looking for things like our substitution packages, play calling, then he went on to say that he was watching the game as a scout, but only watching the Dolphins only, to see how the players were used and the game managed. I think if we crossed out "scout" and substituted "Coach making a game plan" and he would be telling the truth of the matter... He went on to say that he will talk to "Both Fellas" and get their take on why the season has turned out the way that it has on Thursday....I would love to be a fly on the wall for both of those interviews...IMO, CamRan's futures are hinging on what they have to say...
Maybe, Tuna may know what is wrong with the 2007 Dolphins, he may want to see if they know what is wrong with the 2007 Dolphins, two wrong answers and there "could" be looking for work Jan 2008. You think they both are fired Snips?
All i can say is I'm glad im not the one making the decision. But i will say this, Miami has a lot more talent on the team then a 1-14 record. Cameron lost 6 games by a field goal, but somehow you gotta think a better coach would have won some of those games by a field goal. Camerons just made some down right silly calls and weird moves. Lorenzo Bookers looked awesome the last two games....Ronnie got hurt oh so long ago, WHY wasn't Booker playing earlier? Why call for a pooch kick that went out of bounds and almost cost us our ONLY win of the season against Baltimore? Cameron doesn't demand respect in the locker room, cause players don't say much about him at all. Personally i don't think cameron has 'it'. I'm not against keeping Cameron, there's a few reasons why we should. But i'd understand if Parcells went a different way. As far as GM, well I think mueller did a pretty good job here, but GM is going to be the position that Parcellls works closely with, and he'll probably want his own right hand man for that.
One of the things I really do like about Tuna's arrival is the fact that he knows what good football teams should look like, he knows why teams can be bad, so if a decision on Cam or Mueller is made after the season, I do have confidence in Parcells to make the right move. It is the replacements if a move is made that worry me, I wouldn't hire Tom Coughlin on a bet, he's like Marty S only worse in the playoffs. Tuna may bring in Garret, but my gut is telling me that Tuna is not going to take such a huge experimental chance with a new HC Hire. The premise of all of this is Tuna knows best, which is dangerously close to "In Saban we Trust", difference being, Tuna has a longer track record of success.
I think Mueller is pretty much gone. Cam is 50/50 right now I think (I've wanted Cam gone for a while).
Yes, Mueller is either gone or as good as gone. He won't be making Ted Ginn sized picks if he is kept. Cameron is likely gone as well.
Parcells will clean house. He is going to want his own guys who have talent and don't make goofy play calls like Cameron does. Cameron and Mueller are goners imo ...as are most of the assistant coaches and scouts.
im not going to say mueller and cameron will be gone but i will say this; we will have the best GM and coach that parcells can bring in. i'm sure cameron and mueller will get their fair shot. if parcells thinks they are better than anyone else out there, then hell keep them. if he thinks someone else can do better, they will be brought in cameron and mueller aren't owed anything. they don't deserve 'another' chance. they deserve a fair evaluation, and that is what parcells will do.
I think he is saying parcells job is to see what is wrong with the organization and fix it. Not make decisions on something he decided even a week ago.
here's how I see it. Teams like NE and Indy draft based on who they want, not by who is good value and their picks always work out (See NE taking Logan Mankins, and The Colts taking Dwight Freeney,Dallas Clark, and Bob Sanders). They know what type of player they want, and they develop them by... wait for it... playing them. They may not be starters but they give them roles to learn, and when the time comes they are ready to play. Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork were starters their second years in the league, but they rotated in and became good players. Kelvin Hayden and Marlin Jackson were nicklebacks for 2 years, and have been IMO one of the better CB corps in the league this year. I think the one thing Parcells does do is give us direction. He knows what type of players he wants where in the past I didn't really get that impression
One thing I see as a fact (though since it's just the way I see it, it's still an opinion... Weird how that works): If Cam is kept, he will be the Head Coach only and there will be an OC to make the calls. No more double-duty... I'm really excited about the changes to come. Really, no matter what the changes are...
I can't imagine how any sane person would get rid of Ronnie Brown. He's going to be a top five back for several seasons.
I agree with your summary. Cameron was scorched in the Herald today, two columns basically calling him a weakling and a buffoon. When the local media disrespects you to that degree it probably means the team generally holds you in low regard also, and if so, Parcells will want to go in another direction. Hard for anyone to defend that spike at the end of the first half. I'm amazed Cameron even tried. Things like that would be litmus tests for me. I'll feel bad for Mueller if this is his only year. Several gaffes but I think he has good instincts and priorities, for the most part. Certainly far superior to Spielman and many other talent evaluators we've had, and I can go back to the late '60s.
Disagree about your media assessment. The media is a bunch of buffoons who's only goal is to sell advertising. The vast majority of writers covering sports are pipsqueaks who never played the sports they are covering. They move like lemmings from one controversy to the other with entire eons going by before an interesting article is written more by luck than by skill. Cameron in all likelihood is gone. As soon as Parcells was named, the writing was on the wall. He brings in his own people wherever he goes. Dont need the media to tell us that. As for the spike it was inconsequential in the big picture of the game. You yourself touched on it in another post. The Patriots could have turned it on at any time. The game was lost because our 2nd and 3rd stringers at QB, WR and TE couldnt execute the plays and our 2nd and 3rd stringers in our secondary blew assignments on key plays. That's been the story for the last 10 weeks. Now one could blame Cameron for not coaching them up or one could say that they are 2nd and 3rd stringers and that's what you get when you are forced to start 2nd and 3rd stringers. How one answers that question determines what one thinks of Cameron. The spike call was just meaningless in that game. I honestly dont think we wouldve scored if we had 5 downs to work with. The playcalling on offense however was very impressive from my perspective. It would have been an interesting game if we had the talent to match theirs
media hype I agree the media tv/print want cameron gone because they think it will push the story line not because it's goood for the phins. These crappy talking heads writers suck. They do not have whats in the best interest of the dolphins at heart nor should they but they should be unbiased and objective. Their job is to report the news. If it is a editorial then so be it. I don't want a fan or a critic of the team writing aobut them. But every tom dick and harry thinks he knows what's best for this team. I know a lot aobut sports but im not a coach or a gm I am not qualified. What I don't get is the attitude of the local sports writers thinking their opinoin maters. THe only wirters/tv guys I respect are mostly explayers mandich, rose, bokemper, moore, cefalio, ect. THey played the game. THey are qualified to comment and editroialize about the team. Every one has free speech and con pontificate all they want. I am smart enough to pick my media sources carefully and filter out the grabage.
So do I, just based on the fact that he hasn't spoken to Cam yet. If he wanted to keep him they would have spoken the day he signed on.
