it's true... apparently... http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/04/20/return-super-secret-stolen-iphone-say-apple-lawyers/ http://gizmodo.com/5520164/this-is-apples-next-iphone
Apple is genius at marketing. If they REALLY wanted it to be secret, there would be cease and desist court orders for Gizmodo to take the pics and story down. In which it would have aired for maybe a few hours tops. Instead it's been running well over 24 hours feeding the Apple/iPhone 4.0 hype machine. Nothing better than free advertising. There's no way an employee would be allowed to leave the building with that thing lol
one would think, to add there's speculation that the unit is designed specifically for AT&T and that is leading some to predict there won't be a Verizon unit released this year. Bump up AT&T sales first, then release the Verizon unit later so people don't jump ship from AT&T to Verizon?
Also adding to the fire... Anyone find it weird that it lands in the hands of Gizmodo within hours of getting it? I didn't read the whole story as to how they got it, but I don't see a random person finding it in a bar saying, "Oh snap! Let me get this over to Gizmodo ASAP" then runs to over-night it lol
yeah I doubt they would have let him leave with it unless he was testing it, but even then I find that hard to believe they don't do that in more of a controlled environment.... especially a prototype.
Well, on the FoxNews story, they say the guy who found it at the bar actually tried to give it back to Apple and couldn't. After having it for some time (they don't say how long) he decided to sell it to Gizmodo for the $5,000. I would have held out for more...
this is a true story. im the one who left the phone at the bar. here is what happened. i got a call a couple of weeks ago from a person who described himself only as, "him". I talked with him for about 30 minutes before agreeing to become a tester for the new iphone with apple. He made it very clear that my life would be in danger if I was the cause of an info leak. I agreed because they pay cash, and lots of it. Unfortunately a long night of drinking has completely ruined my life. I've been on the run since the incident. I'm pretty sure a guy in a blue mid sized SUV is following me. I've been able to keep him away long enough to sleep and eat, but I can't keep running forever. I'll probably be dead soon. If I suddenly disappear, please remember me. Tell my story!!
Why would Apple not take their "secret" prototype iPhone back? WAIT!!! THEY WANTED IT TO END UP ON GIZMODO!!!!!
I'm so tired of this story. It's a prototype iPhone 4G/HD that people are now drawing all sorts of misleading conclusions from. The phone won't look like that, and it's not even set in stone that it'll have those same tech specs. It's called a prototype for a reason: it's not final. I just wish it was June already. Release the damn next phone and dispense with these silly misleading stories.
because the Tech/nerdy types that are interested in the specs of a leaked iphone read gizmodo more than the NY Times
The irony is that, thanks to the way Gizmodo acquired the phone, they're arguably guilty of theft. Or, at the very least, acquiring stolen property.
