we need a player like him/spiller a home run threat.

 

If we spend a pick on him before a true WR with #1 potential... God.

I like McCluster but I'm tired of these gadget players when we don't have an actual #1 WR on the roster.

 

Looks a lot like Dave Meggett which is probably where the interest comes from (Parcells)

 

He signed with KC for 15 million over 3 years, 5.9 guaranteed.

I don't think anyone should be surprised if we take McCluster, we are obviously very interested and had a week to get to know him at the senior bowl. I could see us trading down a few spots in the second and taking him, a la Sean Smith last year.

 

if we're willing to take a guy like mccluster, then lets take spiller at 12.

The third rounder sure, especially if we fill NT and FS before the draft. The second rounder, I'd hate but I love how McCluster runs. I can't see why he cannot play the third-down back. So what if he can't block? Don't have him block.

 

McCluster is nothing but a third down back who will never be able to pick up a blitz consistently. He is not worth more than a 5th rd pick. He is a poor mans Darren Sproles

 

Guy has ball security issues, he can't hold onto the ball. He's small, like 170 pounds or something. He runs hard and aggressive. He sure is fast though, he's confident and thinks he will be the next Chris Johnson (probably shooting too high for a guy his size but okay). He didn't really show his speed on the 40 though with an official 4.58 time, he predicted a 4.3. He looked extremely fast on his other workouts though. Still got the pro day coming up so he has another chance to show that speed and perhaps improve his stock. He will be there in the 2nd round in my opinion, maybe early 3rd.

 

I'd also be annoyed if they used a high pick on this kid. he's a luxury, not a core need.

I say 6th round is where he'd be worth it to us, but he'll never last that long. he'll go in the 4th, I believe.

Let's hope our FO doesn;t decide they 'have' to have him and overdraft the guy in the 3rd round. Man.

Suggestion to Ireland: Maybe first we should have, like, the OLBs and NTs we need to run our base defense?

 

I'm hoping with Nolan on board, maybe they'll get more of a voice for that. His style is very different from Pasquelani's from everything I've been reading. So if that's the case, maybe Nolan will make a strong argument for a D heavy draft. It's clear that it will be a more aggressive one for sure.

 

That would be a luxury pick for sure. I'm OK with him fro a 4th or later. I like how he runs the wildcat. Something we had to give up on after Ronnie went down. I do wish he were bigger.

 

You cannot wish players into existence at your pick. People love to whine last year about picking Pat White over any number of linebackers who are questionable fits or have done absolutely nothing professionally, and the reality is, there's a strong possibility that no one worthwhile was actually there.

 

really, i for one would be very surprised at taking either Spiller or McCluster in rd 1 .... even if we were to trade down (which i absolutely expect us to do).

 

He would be a huge waste of a early pick considering our problems on defense and the running backs we do have.

 

Sweet a undersized RB luxury pick in the 2nd round to go with our undersize luxury QB we took in the 2nd last year!

 

Physically, he's John Avery. His character / mental makeup is an entirely different animal.

 

My biggest concern is in the Senior Bowl against top talent he vanished and fumbled! Serious concern considering his size. Can he take the NFL pounding?

 

This isn't Madden where a spread of players are spawned at relatively equal abundance and quality relative to their rounds and position.

It's very well possible given the reality of the draft that any given pick is not going to have worthwhile players at a position they'd like to draf there, and the *right* thing to do is not draft for that need anyway.

That's what gets you Eddie Moore.

 

Sorry, but I just don't see them taking this guy in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounds, maybe not even in the 4th. The Dolphins have some serious needs on defense and at WR to take someone who may or maynot be an NFL running back. You would think they learned something from the Pat White experiment from last year.
McCluster seems to be a speedy player but not every college players college game translates to the NFL. Thats JMO but I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time for that.

 

You can't really believe that with all the position holes we needed to fill there was no one worthwile to take at #44 so we settled on P. White.

Maybe there was no SOLB worth it at #44, but we also needed/could've used G, ILB, WOLB, DT, WR, TE. It would be nearly impossible that none of those positions had a player worthy of the #44 pick or at least less worthy than P. White.

 

I understand the concern on his size, but he did play against formidable SEC talent. Also, it was pretty obvious that the North D-line handled the South O-line the entire game, so he really did not have much of a running lane the entire game (the entire team had 30 yards on 26 carries).

What he did do well was catch the ball out of the backfield (3 receptions for 30 yards) and kickoff returns (3 for 66 yards).

It is odd that you mention the fumble because in his ENTIRE college career, he has NEVER fumbled (LINK: HERE). So you really have no argument about his ball handling skills.

I think this guy is a player; no matter his measurables, Sr. Bowl stats, or Combine results.

I cannot stand the comparison to Pat White because they are two totally different types of players at different positions. It is an argument that lacks sense or value.

 

Is there someone who picks before us that might take McCluster. While I love the kid I just can't see us taking him unless he falls. Otherwise is this a smoke screen? Try to either throw off others or tempt someone into taking McCluster because they are afraid we will pick him up?

 

First of all, be nice to KB. :) lol.

Secondly, that's a feasible argument, if you believe that what McCluster would add to the team in whatever number of snaps he'd actually get outweighs the benefits of even a rotational OLB who needed a year or two to become a starter.

For instance, I'd rather have Paul Kruger right now. Said so during the draft and still think so, though I *was* excited to see if White could do something. He still might.

But this isn;t about rehashing the Pat White issue. It's simply saying that you need to eat your vegetables before you get dessert and the core guys in your base offense and defense must be of a decent standard before you get guys who will play limited snaps unless you honestly feel they will have a HUGE HUGE ipact in those snaps.

I think the FO felt Pat White could have that boig an impact. And they may feel that way about McCluster.

I just don;t think it's as big an impact as making sure we have some decent depth at positions that will see more snaps than a 3rd runningback/weapon-X guy.

 

Along the sames lines, it's worth noting that this draft is very deep on talent. Deeper than most.

This year's second rounder could be a late first in most years.

That's another why I don;t think McCluster will carry enough weight to deserve a second or third round pick. Don't get me wrong, I like the kid a lot, but not more than a player who can contribute more to the team.

 

Spiller it's not even close. Spiller is the best runningback in the draft, he's the real "next" Chris Johnson.
