In my view, Joey Porter has a decent trade value, he did have 9 sacks and played most of the year on a bad hamstring, his contract is relatively cheap now that his 25 million dollar signing bonus has already been paid.
He would earn 5 million this season, but a guy like Julius Pepper's made 16 million in 09 and their sack production was about equal so there would be a market for Peezy this offseason.

Peppers plays everything the run the pass, can act as DE in 4-3, can stand up as an OLB in a 3-4.....he is 3 years younger.....Porter really just rushes the passer, and even that is declining...there really is no comparison between the 2...

If he has any trade value, it's only because of the uncapped year. We may have lucked out on that front.

Trade for JP and save 12 million bucks or more, if a cat like Dumervil moves he would land a 20 million dollar signing bonus imho that alone makes JP attractive to trade for.. -
I'm sorry but I still cannot forget the play on 4th down against the Jets. If you guys remember, they did a fake punt and Porter had the KICKER wrapped up and couldn't bring him down. So please don't mention Porter and Peppers in the same sentence.

Declining play and injury concerns, combined with what is essentially him demanding to be traded is going to all but eliminate any trade value, IMHO. The Dolphins would be lucky to get a 5th or 6th rounder for him. But you know what...I'd take whatever I could get and deal him to the first serious suitor.

You know, Julius Peppers is more hype than anything. He can play, don't get me wrong. But he doesn't show up...ever. At least Porter wants to start and play more and prove what he can do. Peppers just wants to get paid and then disappear for 16 games.

Good luck finding a trading partner for Porter when teams are going to be purging there salariesfinyank13 and DolfanJohnNY like this. -

to all those who were wrong when they posted in the rome interview thread that porter wasn't asking for a trade.
It wasn't hard to see
i still think no one will bite and we end up releasing him -
10/10/33/23 10 sacks, 10 hits 33 pressures 23 tackles
Joey Porter's
9/5/11/26 9 sacks, 5 pressures (which imho is far to low)/11 hits 26 tackles
J Pepe was paid over 1 million per game, JP about 300k per game
22 more pressures over 16 games is slightly more than 1 per game more than Joey Porter for 700k in additional salary.
Based on that Porter does have some value don't you think? -
-
He should be paid more, his much better, we will agree that both JP and Pep are both play-making defensive players...what I mean by that is, stuff other than tackles.....so putting tackles aside....
Porter in 11 years has had 10+ sacks in just 3 of those years......
Pep in 8 years, has had 10+ sacks in 6 of them.....
Porter has more Int's but he drops back in coverage too more than Pep, even with that he (Pep) has 2 pick 6's, including one this year, whereas Porter hasn't had a pick in 2 years...
Porter in the past 4 years has forced 6 fumbles recovering 1....
Pep in the past 4 years has forced 16 fumbles recovering 5....
Porter in the past 4 years has had (while dropping into coverage ALOT more than Pep) defended 12 passes...
Pep in the past 4 years has defended 20......
If Pep took some games off, with the above numbers? What do u consider JP doing.....??
I'm not advocating getting Pep, but there really is no comparison between the 2, he should have gotten more because he was alot better than Porter, and kept his mouth shut too as well, before this year, when he piped up a little about his contract situation...bottom line, I saw a JP this year who just looked inferior, and couldn't be counted on when it mattered most....the Pats Vollmer, a rookie LT filling in for Light, is a good place to start...go watch that tape, it is an embarrassment....miamiron likes this. -

if one recalls, JP played 4 or 5 games with messed up hammy and knee, he still produced, never took himself out of games and was last seen falling on a forced fumble in the Steelers game that could have put us into the lead.
Put it this way, your a GM would you pay 3x more for a player whose production is 10% better? -
I like Ireland, last yr snatching a #6 from KC for Ndukwe and Alleman was a coup, he should get a #4 pick at least for Porter. -
-
JP will make 25% of what Pepe did for 80% of the production and both cats were nicked up this year, JP's hammy and knee were jacked up, Pepe broke his hand.
JP averages 9.2 sacks per season, his year last year was not as terrible as some would make it out to be, and he works cheaply, that is why he does have trade value and will be traded imho.
Tell ya what compare JP's 9/5/33 to JT's numbers in 07 and they had similar years, JT of course caused more fumbles but that is his particular talent.
JT (2007) 11 sacks/41 tackles/3 FF
JP (2009) 9 sacks/33 tackles/1 FF
And JP has no trade value?
The way I see it, a win now owner will offer a #4 pick, play JP in 2010, then cut him before the strike in 2011 as he would be 35 after the strike, rent him for a season like Charles Haley and C Doleman were rented in SF for a year.finyank13 likes this. -

Does he have any trade value, you say yes bro, I say yes too, not much like a 6th if your lucky, but he wont be traded, so basically I'm saying no ha! We'll see, like I said I'd love Miami to pull a Seymour and get some burnout give us what we want...I just don't see it....it will be interesting though cuz its coming up soon u know??padre31 likes this. -
It was the same with Randy Moss, he was dogging it right, took plays off...all that guy does is put up numbers every year, numbers numbers number....then he got blanketed in the payoffs this year, must have dogged it right?? Now it comes out today he had a 3rd degree separated shoulder, you ever have a separated shoulder?? Wait I can't believe I just stuck up for a Pats player (no worries just gave myself 20 lashes).....Seriously though u dog it in this sport you will get hurt, especially playing D-Line... -
Jp finished the season with 1 sack in each of the last 7 games, his trend line was upwards until the end of the season.

sacks.
The little bit of production we did receive from Porter came after he was benched
Porter had a terrible season getting 12 tackles in the first 8 games/half a season and 2.5 sacks
Porter had 11 QB pressures all season
Wake had 9 in one game
Enough of Porter ...he want's to leave...BYE...BYEjetssuck likes this.
