I'm a sports journalist, and that is just flat-out embarrassing. Even though we are human, this is just humiliating to me as a journalist, and the fact it's the AP makes it more embarrassing. I hope whoever submitted this story got fired, because not only does it go on their releases, it goes to all wires to every news service (newspaper, online paper, or otherwise) that uses that kind of thing. I remember, because my former paper only had two sports writers (small-town paper), we used AP wire articles to fill our pages. Do you know how many complaints we'd have to field the next day if we let this run?

This is the problem with not having Editors who see the copy in print before publication; you see things in print that the eye glosses over onscreen, that's a fact.

They corrected it at 8:47 an hour and a half after it was published... also note that I saw the previous edited version that was updated at 7:27, 17 minutes after it was originally published.

Very true. I used to work as a proofreader for a draft publication and the owner insisted I proofread a print copy, not onscreen.Ophinerated likes this.
