I'm really high on this kid from the university of Delaware. Took a path very similar to Joe Flacco by transfering from a major school to Delaware where he was able to shine. Devlin has good physical size for an NFL QB at 6'3 225. He's got average NFL arm strength throwing the ball but his intangibles and accuracy were pretty good in college. Cool in the pocket. His head is in the game. Good decision making. Give him a shot at it. He's one of those players that goes all out and will bring excitement when he's in there. At this rate we are going to lose many games and if that is the case then I say let some of the unknowns play and see what they've got to offer. I've seen plenty of Chad Henne at this point to truly feel like he is probably more suited as a backup QB at this time. Matt Moore impresses me about as much as Tila Tequila's singing (Very little). Devlin is high on my list because I really liked him in college and I was surprised when he wasn't drafted, but at the same time, very pleased when he was added to our team. Many QB's have gone undrafted in the NFL and had good careers (Tony Romo, Jeff Garcia, Jake Delhomme (Carolina years), Warren Moon, and of course Kurt Warner. Not saying that Devlin is any of these guys, BUT...THIS FRONT OFFICE and coaching staff is DUMB enough to possibly be hiding the next Kurt Warner or Warren Moon and not even know it. All i'm saying is that it wouldn't surprise me in the least. What will really suck is if Devlin actually winds up being a good QB, but ends up showing it on another team. Anything is possible. I say play the kid eventually.
I'm a Blue Hens fan and I like to see some Blue Hen succeed in the NFL so why not give the dude a chance, these Phins aren't going nowhere this season...
12 games left and you're talking about starting our practice squad QB? Yeah, that wouldn't send a message to the entire NFL that we're trying to throw a season.
I agree but if we continue to lose every game this year like we have been doing then at some point in the season he has got to become a realistic option for us.
You know Pat, you'll get more credibility if you take this logic to Coach Sparano. I'm not sure how coming onto our board and speaking about yourself is going to get you a chance to start.
Yes, this is a fantastic idea. An even better idea is to start Daniel Thomas at QB and solely run the wildcat.
Actually. Get your play-makers in the same backfield. Have Fields line up in the fullback/hback spot. Quadruple threat if there ever was one. That way you don't know if the play is a zone run, pass, sweep, or punt...
There is a reason that Delin went undrafted in May ... and it isn't because he is ready to be an NFL starter. 3 or 4 years down the road, sure, he may turn into something serviceable. But putting him in this early would most likely put him on the John Beck road to ruin.
I disagree. If Devlin was put in when the season was already a loss, and didn't have expectations of "saving" the team, I think it would be a completely different situation from what Beck faced.
You guys are just as clueless as this front office. You guys talk as if you know football, and all of you sucked when and if you ever played. You heard it here, if Pat Devlin gets the chance to play, we will start winning and we will have a quality QB.
