Wow, a laptop joke. Didn't see that coming.
All sarcasm aside, I'm looking forward to see what he does in this workout. -

Passing on QBs is working well for us so far. If Newton drops into our laps we should certainly continue!
Newton dropping to 15 is something I can't see happening though, just to much talent. -

Half the league would like a franchise QB. If a highly regarded QB falls, then there's more to it than teams ahead of us "not needing one", where as an OLB, RB, etc could fall a few spots simply b/c teams ahead of us have another position prioritized.
Newton has All-World talent that's worthy of a #1 overall pick <if talent were the only factor>. If he's there at 15, that means that every QB in the league passed on him or is scared by him----- the teams in front of us would've passed on him, and the teams behind us who didn't pull the trigger on trading up would also be considered "passing on him". If he fell to #15 and we took him, we'd become the Bengals, a team who drafts on upside alone hoping they find an elite player. Boom-bust...... leaning towards bust, and I personally don't think drafting boom-bust type prospects at QB is the wisest idea considering their lofty fail rate.MarinePhinFan likes this. -
Man is Marcel Dareus a beast..I just saw him and Newton on a play go toe to toe, naked bootleg, Marcel read it perfectly, just the two in the flat with about 5 yards of space between them, Newton put an ankle breaker on him, Marcel mimicked, Newton put another move on him, than another, Marcell mimicked perfectly, newton tried to bail to the edge, and got pounced...

Either way, both of them are better off going to teams who can afford to wait 2-3 years before putting them on the field, and I seriously doubt that would happen in Miami.ToddsPhins likes this. -
Is this the same Roethlisberger that the Bills tried to trade up into the top 10 to get?...... the same Ben from a 2004 draft class who had Eli Manning and Rivers drafted in the top 3?---- sure, that's not a legit reason to push him further down the board, huh? lol. What am I thinking to not expect Miami of Ohio Roethlisberger be drafted ahead of those star bigger school guys?! What am I thinking to not expect the other 8 teams in the top 10 to not take him when poor prospects like Larry Fitzgerald, Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow, DeAngelo Hall, and Roy Williams are on the board.
Why don't we look at the top 10 while we're at it <just for fun>.
1. NY- Eli Manning (Ben's a potential bust for not being taken here)
2. Oak- Robert Gallery. (They passed on Rivers, so I guess Rivers should've been a huge bust, too)
3. SD- Rivers. (Ben should've been a bust for Rivers going before him). <sarcasm>
4. Zona- Larry Fitz (hard to pass on an elite BPA for small school prospect at #4)
5. Wash- Sean Taylor (rare elite Safety prospect, and they just signed Mark Brunell)
6. Clev- Winslow Jr (rare elite TE prospect whom they TRADED UP FOR. Browns had just signed Jeff Garcia)
7. Det- Roy Williams (Quick, someone tell the Lions they're foolish for not taking 2 QBs in the top 7 over a 3 year period. lol.)
8. Atl- DeAngelo Hall (Falcons must be nuts for passing on Ben with young Vick at QB)
9. Jax- Reggie Williams (How silly of me to think Jags don't take Ben after using a #7 pick on Leftwich the year before)
10. Hou- Dunta Williams (Ben is definitely a buster when Texans pass on him despite taking Carr #1 two seasons prior)
I just cant see why Ben wasn't drafted in the top 10 when 2 elite QBs were taken before him, with 4 other teams recently using a top 7 pick on a QB, and 2 other teams picking up their QB in FA <sarcasm again>. Gheesh..... thanks for correcting me. What would I do without you? lol. :shifty:
The only spots Ben could've gone are at #2 & #4, and that' a stretch based on his level of competition. If Cam falls, it's not b/c teams don't need him, haven't spent a recent 1st rounder on QB, or haven't picked one up in FA. It would be because the dont want him.GMJohnson and MarinePhinFan like this. -
Unless you are willing to make the same statement if Julius Jones isn't drafted by the Rams, then the Dolphins shouldn't draft him because that is a red flag. -
Bad example, bro. Go and look at the teams who picked before the Steelers. There were only 2 other QBs taken before Ben. Rivers, who is better, and Eli, who is only considered to be good because of his name but at the time people thought he was going to be Peyton 2.0.
The rest of the teams who picked before the Steelers, except for maybe the Lions (who could mess up a wet dream), didn't really think they needed a QB. Ben went 11th overall too.ToddsPhins likes this. -

if Cam Newton is there at #15 and miami thinks he is worth the spot, Miami should jump on picking him. Having him fall to 15 shouldn't factor AT ALL in their decision.

You should not run a football team based on making decisions like how a 12 year old girl decides how to buy their jeans -

Each draft is unique. There was very little need for a QB in the top 10 of the 2004 draft. (There was also a lot of talent atop the 04 draft.)
2011 is completely different. There are at least 7 teams in the top 10 who could desperately use a QB (not including Cleveland), with FA not helping. -
-
Just because a player falls does not mean that he is going to be a bust. Just because a player rises doesn't mean he is going to be a slam dunk hit. -
Cam Newton does have a pretty decent chance of being OK. Even though OK is generally seen as a bust when it comes to first round quarterbacks. Pretty all quarterbacks have boom-bust potential due to the nature of the position. -
Where is this 12yr old girl? Who's buying jeans?
The point, of which you can't grasp, is that if....IF....14 teams, 10-12 of which need a QB badly, pass on Cam "The Icon" Newton, then there is probably a very good reason. If 10-12 teams pass him up, the Dolphins better use those 10-12 teams decisions as a HUGE clue and do all they can to see why he was passed over.ToddsPhins likes this. -

Everything about Newton epitomizes potential bust---- from his history to his decision making...... with the offense he played in along with his questionable intelligence.
If you look up "potential bust" in a football dictionary------ besides a flat-chested cheerleader, you'll see a picture of Brian Bosworth........ holding a picture of JaMarcus Russell....... holding a picture of Cam Newton.MarinePhinFan likes this. -

I bet Cam Newton has a picture of Ryan Leaf in his pocket. -
I understand the point. I just think it is really stupid. The only reason Miami should pass on him is because of their own research and looking at the tape. If they do not believe he is worth the 15th selection in the draft, they should not take him. If they believe he is worth the 15th pick in the draft and he falls to the 15the pick in the draft, then they should.
It is that simple. -
I do not care what anyone else thinks of Cam Newton. I sincerely believe that, if we take him in the first round, he will be a MUCH better pick than Pat White to run the Wild Cat. I think Ronnie is gone, and Cam is a perfect fit to replace him.
Past that, as a franchise QB, no way, no how, never happen. JMO.ToddsPhins likes this. -
