August 10th is the day were Revis's holdout either moves into "this is serious" or he simply joins his teammates in Training Camp, if he is serious enough to forego a year accruing towards his eventual FA, then the Jets are in a real bind.
Revis would have -0- reason to play this year unless Tannebaum meets his demands as he already lost a yr towards FA, what else can they threaten him with?

what's it mean he loses a year of "service time"?

Revis has played three seasons and has three years left on his rookie deal. Previously you couldn't reach unrestricted free agency until you had accrued four seasons of service (this year it's six). So you're talking about a path to free agency as well as minimum salaries (though that's probably waaaay down the road, if ever). There are probably other facets I'm not thinking of or am ignorant to.
For a player of his caliber, it's probably not a huge deal. He's elite, and it's hard to imagine him not getting paid at some point. -

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get your money big dog!!!!
According to Gary Myers of the New York Daily News, the 10-year proposals on the table by both the Jets and Revis differ by $40M.
The $40M doesn't even include signing bonuses and guaranteed money. The Jets have had a 10-year, $120M offer "on the table for months," so it seems that Revis' camp is asking for 10-years, $160M. No wonder Woody Johnson's gut feeling is that Revis won't play for the Jets.

This reminds me of Latrelle Spreewell who couldn't feed his family on $15 million a year, the only difference is that these NBA knuckleheads have gauranteed deals so they can dog it and wink and smile as soon as they sign their contracts. That's why I don't watch the NBA much anymore.
But nobody put a gun to Revis' head...he signed a deal and should live by it. Most of us can't go into our boss's office and say we want our deals re-worked. I could see a little bonus check being offered up around Christmas time, but hey that's why it's a contract. Go ahead and sit out Bevis.finyank13 likes this. -
I was just listening to the ESPN sound clip of Leon Washington, and I have to say the Jets probably shot themselves in the foot with this one.
Washington has been talking to Revis about his situation. As he explained he hasn't told him what to do, but I'm sure he's said the proverbial "If I were in your shoes." After he got tossed out like yesterdays garbage after his injury, I'm sure it left a very sour taste in a lot of players mouths over there. To be a player of Revis' caliber, you have to be smart to the fact that this could go away any day. One bad/nasty hit from a player and your Pro-Bowl career is dried up. Look at Culpepper as a perfect example.
The Jets are in a pickle due to all of the contracts they're going to have to work on next year. Overbudget this year and next year begins to look realllyyy bleak. -

It's already looking like Sanchez is struggling some. I'm sure that will turn around as he gets more practice in, but the Jets can't really afford any more bad preseason news.
In other news, I just found out that the tears and anguish of Jets fans is a perfect substitute for coffee for me :up:MikeHoncho likes this. -

This is a perfect example on how Rex can't STFU, or should I say why he needs too........he is calling out "locks" without playing a game yet!?!?!?!? the guy talks for the sake of talking....like dude!!!!! talking doesnt make you lose weight bro!!
As expected, the Jets have ruled out the possibility of Kellen Clemens retaining his backup role behind Mark Sanchez.
Coach Rex Ryan called Mark Brunell "a lock" for the No. 2 spot, confirming the decision was "predetermined." Clemens' $1.176M salary will work against him as he competes with Kevin O'Connell to be the third-string quarterback.
