Its not hard for me to imagine Thigpen as the starter. He has done it before and quite adequately.

Its not an ideal situation but he could be a David Woodley type who can throw and run in a pinch .

On the other hand I would be very nervous if White were starting.Lucas nervous .:helpsmilie:

Well until Penny has heald sufficiently (by end of TC), there will be the Back Up QB contriversy, but come the season, Penny will be the man.

You know that is a good point. Except I dont remember reading who wrote it other than the fact it was on ESPN.com. I will try to remember that next time. Thanks!!

I sure hope we dont put our hopes on Penny as our backup. Thigpen has WAAAAAY more ahead of him, and is HEALTHY.

We have a great QB squad. I would cut White. I don't see any value in him. A wasted pick IMO.

Heh, thats what I meant, ESPN. It just threw me off for a second because I usually check the source first. I've burned too many braincells reading Bleacher Report articles, I can't afford to read many more.

The only way I want White is in another position, otherwise I hope he never sees the field again unless it is a SUCCESSFUL pass in the WildCat. Keeping 4 QB's on the roster is too costly IMO, White is not worth that, unless they see something in TC that just demands it.

Tried real hard to get on board with Pat White when we drafted him, thinking the FO knew what they were getting themselves into, but he has shown me NADA. At this point he is a luxury I can't see us affording. Maybe if we start off Penny on the PUP, but that's about it. JMHO

I have every confidence White will prove his worth
    in the WildCat, SpecialTeams
    & as a run/throw/receive option on offense.
don't think he has great conventional qb potential
    having said that:
he is a serious football talent & will find his way in 2010.

Penny just might stay on the PUP list forever. His arm could be a ghost at this point. I would be willing to bet that is the case.
When Marino hung them up he was just a brain in a jar with an arm attached to it. Penny is the same . A brain in a jar except no arm attached to it. I think the guy is done honestly.

Well after Marino we've basically had a gaping abyss on our roster at the Qb position so having a great competition in camp with lots of talent is a great thing IMO. We have 3 guys that have started and performed in this league and one developmental prospect, sounds good to me.

  17. Ozzy Premium Member Luxury Box

Much rather see White on that list if he needs more time to develop. I just think you keep your 3 best Qb's on the roster, and White is not one of them and surely not better than CP.

Don't know about that Ozman, if White shows better speed/power/Rb ability, to go along with improved passing he could live up to the Wildcat 2.0 potential he was drafted to run.

For all the complaints and harping about 'he didn't complete a pass" out of his 52 plays, he only had 5 passes, his ability as a running back wasn't what we all saw in his WVa highlight reel.

That run against that Patriots was just a taste of what Pat White SHOULD have done last yr.

While I agree that I don't want White as one of our QBs, I still stand by the statement that if White's first pass was a couple feet closer and Ginn catches that bomb for a TD, then most of you would be singing a different tune and would be happy with him as our 3rd QB. A few feet...that's the difference between a positive impression and a negative one.

If and I mean "if"........he can show that he can be a real threat running the ball from behind the LOS, then I could see keeping him around for the WC. Otherwise he's pretty much useless...

And that little package of his? I want that scrapped........badly. Sending Henne out for him to run the spread is a joke.

That is a part of it, to me White has to offer something different and better than Thiggy does.

I want to see it expanded, we saw the wishbone, how about the triple option? Veer?

Quick kicks on 3rd and 25, passes off of reverses, the whole bit, use White for what he can do.

How about we have a great line up on offense now and lets quit getting cute and just go out there and pound them with the base?

The Wildcat is fine with White but it's not something you'll see a whole lot. It's run best with Ronnie, and Ricky.

I don't look at Penny as better because White did not complete a pass. I just see White as not even close to Penny or Thigpen.

So unless White has closed the gap on Penny, or Thigpen, as a QB I'd be inclined to try anyway to hide him until he's ready...

Put Penny on PUP, that buys us six more weeks, plus he might actually need the time for more rehab anyway.

Thiggy could hold the fort down if Henne gets hurt during that time. It also gives them a chance to run some packages with White. The kid has put on weight and is no doubt much stronger than last year. If he is more of a threat to run between the tackles that would help the offense.

If White is not showing much, and there are no other injuries that have cleared a roster spot for him, then I guess you try and trade him away for a later round pick. No one will give more than a fifth knowing he will be cut, but he'd probably get taken by the Bills or Browns or another crappy QB hungry team so any other team interested needs to give up a pick to be certain they get him.

Worst case, White is cut free for nothing.

What is CP is healthy enough to play and Thigpen gets hurt as well? I don't see White holding down the fort....

If our starter and backup gets hurt our season is pretty much scrapped just like any other team. Hold it together man, just one more month...

One fact that I feel has been overlooked about the Steelers game is..their 3 Qb system..worked exactly as it was supposed to work, White as the #2 didn't drive the ball.."but" Thiggy as the #3 still came into the game and gave us the chance to win it.

Which to me means "if' White shows he can be a legit NFL Qb...why take his WC 2.0 abilities off of the table?

You saw what I saw then? Henne's eye was a bad pun after he threw the first INT a steeler's Cb had all season on a poor out route throw?

Be real here Killahp, if White cannot hack it, he cannot hack it, better to know now than to waste time on him for 3yrs, they have to put him on the field to see if he can play.

If that means White winds up with another concussion, that is how it is.

The NFL is ALL about the lion waiting for the gazelle that is a bit lame when it walks around, the league pounces on that gazelle.

you are living off the pat white run against the pats
he ran for his life scared to death for 33 yards
dont see him in the wildcat. they will be cutting his facemask off again.

-Thiggy had more plays and series.

-better to see White getting his facemask cut off in 2010 than keeping him around until 2012 the releasing him.

-White showed some flashes of what he can do, I do think he was massively underprepared physically and from reps standpoint.

-Thiggy looked good, and looked bad, people recall what they want to.

He did throw 2 int's, one that sealed the steelers win, fans gloss over that happening.

I firmly believe that White should be looked at as a running back first and foremost, then work from there, I also think Creativity with White was just not there in 2009.

If Kordell Stewart, who was a mediocre Qb, can have 4 roles, from Returner to Qb..why can't Pat White?

Not so, in the Titan's game White was the Qb in the WC when Ricky took the handoff for the 2pt conversion for the tie.
