This is bad news for us. Now SF will be getting the very best pick of the coaching litter ahead of us.

Will they attract Cowher? If we are going to shop for a new Head Coach the time to do this is NOW before they are picked over.
-
they're going to get Jim Harbaugh. I feel like thats already set in stone.
-
Cowher was reportedly only interested in NYG, Miami and Houston in that order. I would imagine if the Niners are willing to pay, Gruden makes a lot of sense.
-
And no, Bill Cowher's wish list does not include San FranciscoRonnie Bass likes this. -
I think Miami, if we are in the market, will go for a coordinator anyways. My dream is for Cowher, but I just don't think it will happen.
-
-
-
Plus, Coughlins job was/is more secure than Singeltarys and he still put the Giants on his list. so clearly that doesnt matter. -
Marty Shottenheimer
AFC Championship with the Cleveland Browns
AFC Championship with the Kansas City Chiefs
AFC Divisional Playoffs with the San Diego Chargers
He wouldn't fit into the profile that Jerry Jones eloquently pointed out on NFL Gameday...that no Super Bowl winning coach has ever won a Super Bowl with another team.
Marty would be due, but I really don't know if he's past his time.
To quote Maxwell Smart..."missed it by that much" -
OK Guys,
Have it your way - this is good for us. There are only so many good candidates out there so by all means lets wait about ten weeks until they are all gone. We'll just take the picked over coaches and other goof balls like Cam Cameron, then everyone will be happy. Again. . . . . . -
Cobra - relax man.... Other people's opinions can be right and wrong just as yours can be.....
I think its true that we will lose out on Harbaugh, but i dont think its because of sf. I think Jim really wants to coach at university of Michigan and mr rodriguez is on his way out the door. Plus the niners have crap practice facilities and they play in a ****hole. The Stanford Cardinal have better facilities. I also think that Ross will want a big name; someone who will help him sell tickets. Gruden is the probably going to be offered a few jobs.
Now if the dolphins keep tony and go for coordinators....I want: 1) Kubiak 2)Rob Chudzinski 3)jeff fisher -
Brad Childress was fired in Minnesota. Zygler has had ALL of this time to decide what avenue he wants to pursue for a new head coach.
Wade Phillips was fired in Dallas. Jerry Jones has had ALL of this time to decide what avenue he wants to pursue for a new head coach.
Mike Singletary was JUST fired. York has YET to decide what avenue he wants to pursue for a new head coach.
We haven't EVEN fired our head coach yet and Stephen Ross will probably have to put on a Broadway production of A Chorus Line complete with choreography for his celebrity minority owners before wittling away the candidates to replace Sparano.
Now, sarcasm aside, even if we were to fire Sparano this very moment, unless Ross has been doing some secretive consulting which no one has heard a whisper about, it would take weeks before making a decision on who we want to hire as our head coach.
San Francisco is no further ahead of us in the coaching scouting pool than we are...and you also have to keep in mind, would San Francisco's first choice even WANT the job? -
Fischer is not gonna work as a coordinator lol. Kubiak or maybe McDaniels imo.
-
-
-
Unfortunately, Jerry Glanville is two years older than even Marty Schottenheimer. -
I'm not convinced yet that Ross will actually fire Sparano. We'll see though.
-
Insiders say San Fran will focus on choosing and hiring a great General Manager first. Then THAT person will get to conduct a coaching search and that 'big name' head coaches aren't a priority. (as per NFL network coverage of Singletary firing)
That's as it should be. The GM should run the show, with the coach working for the GM. Hire the GM first.
To me, either Ireland gets to fire Sparano and hire a new coach, or Ross fires Ireland too and seeks a new GM. Biggest loss of our rebuild was that Parcells didn;t get his son-in-law Scott Pioli to become OUR GM when he left the Patriots instead of becoming the Chiefs GM. -
I think Cowher is a tad overrated as a coach...I mean, it took the guy 15 years to win a SB. And some of the teams he had were pretty loaded. I think he's a good coach and I wouldn't mind having him here, but I'll live if we go another route.
-
That is now 4 coaches who have gotten fired. That is before the end of the season. Good year to be looking for a head coaching job.
-
why does everyone want cowher so bad... he will want GM powers and that almost NEVER works out well. It took him over a decade to go to a superbowl once he got the steelers job after a pretty decent team fell in his lap. if he didnt fall into a talent like big ben,he would have been fired a year after that draft. He is not as good of a coach as everyone thinks and i dont want ANYONE who demands GM powers and HC. Thats just stupid to give one guy that much power
BlameItOnTheHenne and Marco like this. -
-
Cowher and guys like that are smart people, how do you get more money? Leverage, how do you get leverage? Have more than one team wanting you.
They will wait to after the season and all the chips fall. -
California and the 49ers offer him the job. I think it is very likely he would accept it. Right now I think the only former coach who might end up in Miami if Sparano is fired is
John Gruden. Ross is reported to be high on Gruden and with Cowher possible headed to the Giants and Harbaugh perhaps to the 49ers. Gruden may be the only option left to Ross if he wants to bring in a big name coach after this season. -
The fact that Singletary has been fired and that several others may or may not be on the bubble here, may accelerate Sparano's departure. Of course this is assuming his departure is on it's way.
Personally I believe he has done a decent job and his problem lies in his QB. The first half of Sundays game prove my point. Henne for the most part played well and we were kicking their a$$. Then came the second half.......well, you know the story from there. Story of the season. -
-
Nope, I guess they are after Parcells instead... my mistake. Most owners wouldn't concern me but this owner is a very aggressive guy. I thought this would only hurt us if we were in the market for a coach, turns out we are not. I have to admit that I never saw this one coming. Parcells?
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports...-be-advising-1152708.html?cxtype=rss_dolphins
I can't help feeling that Parcells isn't partly to blame for our debacle. The whole time he was building our team we didn't have his undivided attention anyway. His son-in-law, Scott Pioli is the GM for the Kansas City and Bill had his nose in over there too. I guess that's the silver lining here. If Bill takes the job, will we really miss him? It kinda seems like he really wasn't here lately anyway. -
