I had to go with Vader as each bad *** has his own power and Vaders' power is the force and you dont want to f with that...

He'll force choke you and kill you before you even got near him.

I'd imagine if he was fighting Maximus in an arena he'd force push him into a spear or two and that'd be it.

This is going to be a tight one ... I'll just say this was the toughest matchup I've had to pick between yet.

Vader is pretty much the king of all badasses ... "I find your lack of faith disturbing."

Maximus is right up there "Are you not entertained ... is this not why you are here?"

Both Star Wars and Gladiator are in my top movies of all time, so it's a tough choice to pick one over the other. I won't color my choice one way or the other, but just say that whoever wins deserves it. Great final, IMO.

plus maximus', "Waaaaaa :cry: my wife and kid!" was thrown in our face over and over again. at least with star wars, we were left to ponder the vader character -- the backbone of the entire star wars franchise.

a true badass kills for the right reasons and for fun. for that, both characters are well deserved

But since the Darth Vader persona didn't come about until the original trilogy, then I am very grudingly going to let the snot nosed brat not come into the debate and only assess Vader as a badass based on the original trilogy.

Star Wars: Vader is badass, but ...
(1) Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) is his boss who orders him around. Come on who's more badass - Dracula/Frankenstein's monster (Christopher Lee) or Van Helsing/Dr Frankenstein (Peter Cushing)? Being ordered about by Hammer Horror's #2 badass isn't that cool.
(2) His TIE Interceptor gets taken out by a freighter, I don't care how fast it does the Kessel run getting taken out by a freighter just isn't badass.
(3) He can't torture the information needed out of Princess Leia, whilst failing to figure out that she's his daughter. Some badass force user you are if you torture a little girl properly.

Vader goes all goey eyed and soft over his son, and Puke is just a whiny snivelling brat. If Puke had some vaguely redeeming badassness of his own then that might be acceptable.

Based on Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back Darth might have had a chance, but The Return of the Jedi waters down his badassness too much

classic good guy bad guy matchup. One killed a school full of Jedi kids though and can strangle people just by looking at them wrong. If these two were to fight, there is no doubt in my mind who would win. Darth would probably just toy with Maximus for amusement

We could do biggest hero -v- biggest villain, with the heroes in two pools of 16 and the baddies in two pools of 16 to get to a showdown between good and evil.

Heroes to be assessed on their overall heroicness - think superman, Errol Flynn's Robin Hood.
Villains to be assessed on overall evilness, think Cruella De Ville, Alan Rickman's Sheriff of Nottingham, Macbeth.

Another possibilty could be best sidekick.
