Neighbors dog barks all the time. The neighbor is a friend and they are open to trying things to solve the problem.
Anyone have tips for getting a dog to bark less?

With my dog, once he got to be about 12 or 13, his hearing started to go somewhat, and he hasn't been quite so bad since then. He's now 15 :shifty:
Does the dog stay inside or outside most of the time? If its outside, I don't know that there's anything that can be done. If its inside, and it barks when the people aren't there, then I'd suggest keeping him somewhere thats as quiet as possible, without access to the door and windows on the street side of the house. Having a bed of his own, or even a crate that he can get into when he's alone, could help a lot. -
Also, when he hears a person moving around the house... but it's more of a "come play with me" thing than a guard-dog thing.
This dog is only 8 months old and loves playing with people, other dogs, furniture, cords, etc -

I agree with Mike. Does he get walked? Do they take him to play and run him? Does he get the attention that he needs? Young dogs, like kids, need to be really active and play a lot. Both for their emotional well being and to wear them out.

lol.
Actually, the dog-walker comment reminds me of a college roomate who bought a cat-harness to take his pet rabbit on 'walks' around campus to pick up girls.
It worked very well.
That was one of many things he did.
Including release the rabbit into the ravine behind our dorm after he got tired of walking it in the winter.Paul 13 likes this. -

As for getting it to bark less, the dog may have seperation anxiety especially if he was adopted. They make expensive meds if thats the case; i skipped that and the muzzle options. My dog barked like crazy the first few years i had him but only when i was gone. Even now when im home he doesnt bark at all but when im gone he still yips a bit. If he was adopted he may also feel more secure in a crate with a treat or 2.Bpk likes this. -

Worked like a charm for my little one...got sprayed 2 times and after that all I had to do was get it out of the drawer and show it to her and she would stop.
