I would argue that he's not even cut out for that. The Red Lobster here does too much business for a lot of blow-up doll action and whatnot, but I'm in a big city. Maybe he could run a Red Lobster out in the sticks, somewhere. That's the standard for a Dolphins' head coach now, apparently.

    That logic makes no sense.

Drafting average talent does not make you an average GM. Most of the worst players in the league have average talent. Average talent will never get you to the playoffs. To say that he is average because the talent level is average is just a spin on words.

Taking an average team and coaching them to average to below average records does not make you an average coach. Again, that's a spin on words. If Philbin did nothing at all to make the team better would they still be anything but average? Has he done anything well? Has he even done anything average? To say that he has would say that he has done things in an acceptable manner. Has Philbin been running the team in an acceptable manner?

Will Ireland ever be a GM again? Is it because he is average or because he failed at it when given the opportunity?

You just make up definitions to words and expect the rest of the world to go by them.

Average talent makes up the majority of the NFL. The worst players in the NFL, by goddamn definition, are BELOW AVERAGE.

Its fine you're grumpy, but don't argue stuff you don't understand.

So in conclusion that would mean that the worst GMs and coaches in the NFL by goddamn definition, are BELOW AVERAGE.

Probably not, unless another team gets desperate. The thing that is most telling about Ireland's unemployment is that there are former GM's who were worse than he was and they seem to have found a job with another team in some capacity.

Yes, they would be below average.

How many ex GMs are there and how many have found or even pursued new GM jobs while still being paid by their former team?

AJ Smith was hired right away as a senior exec in Washington after San Diego fired him and he had a couple years left on his contract. Brian Xanders was shown the door in Denver and got hired as a senior exec in Detroit as soon as the season was over.

Just because you're let go with money still owed doesn't mean you just sit at home doing nothing, waiting until you're fully paid out. If you're well respected and well connected you'll find work again soon enough. The fact no one is interested in Ireland speaks volumes.

And we're not even paying him anymore, 2014 was the last year of his deal.

I know you don't actually think that if a team was dumb enough to offer Ireland their GM position or some other high level front office position, he'd have said thanks, but no thanks?

Hell Lake Dawson of the Titans has been pursued every year despite the team being a cellar dweller the past few seasons. Irish can't even get on a long list for an interview.

Again, if we were still paying him and some other team wanted him, they would've bought out the remainder of his contract like others have done.
