### Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has interest in Dan Marino becoming involved with the franchise but likely not in a powerful role, such as director of football operations, barring a change of heart. Problem is, Marino wants a meaningful role, according to an associate. There’s a decent chance they compromise and find one.

Like I said in another thread, and like Clean says, Ross is treating the team like a kid with a toy.
Except this kid has no damned clue how to take care of this toy.
Ross is the owner I like least of the owners we've had. Truly believe this frnchise is ****erooed until he sells or it is somehow forced into his psyche that he must allow someone with a football clue to take over.
If we win a Superbowl under Ross/Hickey/Philbin I'll eat my words, of course. But how long are those odds? -
I just don't get how a multi-billionaire real estate mogul, who should know that he got where he is because he knows quite a bit about real estate, can think that he can succeed as the owner of an NFL franchise by acting on the level of football knowledge that a dilettante has.
Ross didn't get to own this franchise because he's qualified to make decisions on football operations, or even overall policy decisions. He got there because he could stroke a check for a billion dollars.
Back on point: wait until Dan meets Aponte. -
Fact : The best outcome for this franchise would be Dan beating the living snot out of this clown.
-
I think we just need to apply a little logic to this situation....would a friend that is close enough to Ross to actually know what his personal motivations are...be talking to the media? You think Ross has 100's of friends that are close enough to know his personal motivations so it would be difficult for him to figure out who spoke to the media?
When are we going to learn to just stop accepting these vague stories wholesale? -

People are too quick to jump on the hate bandwagon, for all we know Dennis Hickey could be a fine NFL GM. This team has talent, cap space, and a potential budding franchise QB.
It's only so gloom and doom in Miami because the media has pounded it into people's heads. We need some OL help, then what? Every team has holes and most teams have more than us.
If you ask me the arrow is pointing up for this team.Rocky Raccoon, evz, Bumrush and 4 others like this. -
-
I know he owns the team and can do what he wants. That's exactly the point. -
With our luck, Dan likely ends up in Cleveland or some ****.

This team has cap room, for sure, but the roster has been band-aided together for so many years there's plenty of holes that aren't what I'd call "surface level". It's why I didn't want Jeff Ireland around heading into last offseason and is why he's not around now...Miami's still got lots of moving parts to deal with this offseason. -
You know how serious these guys take their whining and pity parties.jboogie and Fin-Omenal like this. -

Why does he consult Peterson and then have a committee formed if what you were saying were true? -
He does consult. That's correct. -
No. What you should do is identify issues a little better. The issue is what people differ on. The bone of contention.
-
If you know he's getting advice from a long time NFL GM then he isn't just making decisions based on nothing. If you also realize the reports of him making decisions "because their fun" is probably bull **** because it simply doesn't add up, then maybe just maybe you'll understand that a lot of the fan outrage is baseless. And this larger point you think I don't get is crap.
But by all means, please keep taking me to task ...... -
I'm not taking you to task. I like you. I'm just disagreeing with you.
-
Which is why franchises are worth about 3x their actual value. -
Marino isn't coming unless it's for a meanigful role and you can't usurp the current power structure for Dan. Much as I'd like to see him part of this org, it's just not a good idea at the current time. Let the Aponte/Hickey/Philbin group play out, for better or worse.
-
Whether Ross is making operational decisions for fun, or because he thinks this franchise is his toy, is irrelevant.
He could just as easily be making decisions because the team is his, so it's his prerrogative.
In either or any case, he would be making decisions in an area he knows little about.
The issue is whether his making decisions in an area he knows little about is in the best interests of the franchise.
The fact that he consults with people who do know football mitigates the harm to the franchise.
And the proof that he is making decisions is when he publicly amits to having made them. -
jboogie The sky is NOT falling!
The same people that are saying we should have known everyone's issues before hiring them are the same ones screaming for Marino like he doesn't have any personal issues. Dan, thanks for the memories, but I'll take JT over him any day.
