-- Denver Broncos defensive boss Jim Bates resigned on Tuesday after the team limped to a 7-9 record in his first year on the job. Bates' departure was expected. The Broncos finished 19th in overall defense and 30th against the run.

Too bad for Bates, but he did have quite a bit of talent to finish that bad IMO.

I loved what he was consistently able to do with our defense but lost my respect for him for the way he acted when he didn't get the Dolphins HC job and the HC job at GB.

Agree completly Mal. It was almost as if the things I admired about him (Loyalty and modesty) didnt exist during those two events...

I think a lot of people here view Bates through some rose tinted glasses because of the sole fact he came in after Wanny and got the team to play. Frankly, a monkey would have excited the players after Dave walked off.
He did a decent job with the D, but I hated that bend but not break (usually) defense we seemed to play alot, it bit us in the ass in many games late. Add that to what Celt said. And his Denver job was just crappy. Glad there isnt so many calls to bring him back this time around, though i fully expect a few not that he is "free."
