FOX Sports on MSN - COLLEGE FOOTBALL - BCS gives Oklahoma nod over Texas, Texas Tech Oh Boy I can already hear Gator Nation.
Harris has it right. Just the Computers and Coaches/USA today poll. I still think it is funny how the computers seem to love teams from the west. Utah is higher than UF in the computers!?
I agree and I am not worried about that. Just find it funny that the computers come out that way. I mean not to sound arrogant, but does anyone really think UF is the 6th best team in the nation? Plus the computers is another place they have OU over UT.
Uhmmm.. Texas Tech BARELY beat Texas at home with zero second sleft. Oklahoma made Texas Teck look like a High School Junior Varsity. Texas beat Oklahoma MUCH worse than the 45-35 final score. Also going into the Texas Teck game, Texas had already beaten three top 10 teams in as many weeks. Teck beat Texas (Barely) and Oklahoma State. I can "Almost" see how Oklahoma edges out Texas, but to bring Teck into the talk, or how they were even ever a top 5 team is absolutely rediculous.....
Tech matters because it was a 3 way tie, making the head to head irrelevant. It forced the Big 12 to use a different tie breaker, and it just so happens it ended up being BCS rank.
Thats interesting....however. The Pac-10 is ready to declare Oregon a Conference Champion even though USC only has one loss. The Mountain West AND BCS cedes BYU ahead of TCU even though TCU has a better record? The entire BCS is absolute BS. I ask you this DS, if you put TEXAS, OKLAHOMA and TEXAS TECK in a round-robbin and you had to bet the title to your house...which team WOULDNT you bet on
Huh? USC will win the Pac-10 if they win this week. Otherwise it's Oregon/Oregon St because of conference record. Has nothing to do w/ the BCS. TCU is ahead of BYU in every poll, BCS included... If the argument for Texas is head to head match up, why cant Texas Tech then say, wait why does Texas deserve to go to the Big 12 title game, we beat them head to head? You have to move to a second tie breaker because 3 teams are involved who beat each other. People seem ok with complaining about Texas supposedly being screwed, but your solution is to screw Texas Tech. You cant say it's all about head to head for one team, then ignore it for the other team with the same record. Oklahoma is the only team to beat 4 top 15 teams. Any computer, non biased, poll is going to give you extra points for that.
If Texas took care of their business against a pretender opponent in Texas Tech then none of this would have been an issue. They have themselves to blame period. Oklahoma got hot and beat up the number 12 team in the country at home to leap frog them. There's no perfect answer and it had to be decided somehow. Bottom line goes back to Texas losing to Tech, a team they never should have lost to putting them in this position. I don't have a problem with how it turned out personally.
Ok, so put Texas over Oklahoma...but TT beat Texas, so why is that ignored? TT has the same record as Texas, and beat them head to head, so TT should go the Big 12 title game. But wait, Oklahoma beat them head to head and finished with the same record...head to head cant work in this situation, which is why the Big 12 had to move to a different tie breaker. Oklahoma is essentially being rewarded by the computers for playing a tougher out of conference schedule, I dont see that as a bad thing. You play crappy teams it pads your record, but if other teams tie your record it'll cost you. That's a good thing. Especially if you dont want to see top tier programs playing Division 2 teams and cruising into a BCS game.
Big difference is Texas lost to Tech on basically the final play at Tech while Oklahoma beat Tech at home. I view that bigger than this 3 way tie.
