Belichick talks Wildcat

You’re just playing with one less guy if you do that. You can get that player involved in the play and kind of play 11 against 10. If you want to take that player out of there, and go hit Pennington, you can do that but I think most teams have tried to play with that extra player instead of giving one up

Dude, I totally said that when it was first suggested by talking heads on TV and radio. I said go ahead do it. Makes it easier for Ronnie/Ricky/Cobbs/Ginn to run it down their throat.

LMAO!! I had almost forgotten about that. BB is such a tool. I can't wait til our team is a powerhouse and put 40 on them in the first half, then run up the score in the 2nd half..

There is no other team in football I hate more than those stinkin' Patriots, and I hope we just completely dominate them...again.

Q: We have seen teams throw to Joe Flacco, have the Dolphins looked for Chad Pennington at all?
BB: Yeah, I don't think the idea is to get him the ball too many times as a receiver. I would say out of all the things that you have to defend that would be at the bottom of the list.

They don't cover Chad which gives them an extra guy in defense so I think we should throw to Pennington. Keep them off guard. Maybe just once early so they have to respect it and not have that extra man advantage. Just a thought.

Q: When you prepare for it do you focus on what you have seen them do or do you try to anticipate what new wrinkle they will throw at you this week?
BB: Well, you have to defend what they have done. You might take into account something you think they'll do if you have some evidence of it but I don't think you want to just be throwing up plays taking a stab in the dark about what they could be dreaming up. I don't think that is really a good utilization of time. But, you have to stop what they have done and there is plenty of that.

I can see our coaches throw a lot of variations against NE. May be they should stay away from everything they have done so far and do everything regarding the wildcat completely different. Make the Pats waste their time on stuff we did previously but will not actually call on game day.

Q: When the Dolphins unveiled it against you there was some element of surprise, has that quickly gone away because they now run it so often?
BB: Well, it is definitely part of their offense; they run it every week. It is still hard to stop. You can look at any good offensive team in this league or any league and they will run the same plays every week that doesn't mean they get stopped. They continue to work because they have great players, great execution and that is true at Miami. Not every play is an 80-yard touchdown but they consistently get production out of just about everything they are doing with that package being part of it and they change it up from week to week. I don't think it's going to be any surprise when Ronnie Brown lines up behind the center and takes the snap but what the rest of the formation will be, what the blocking scheme will be, what they do out of it – that is not always the same every week. I mean, far from it.

This sounds encouraging. BB will have no idea what the next formation, blocking scheme or play we'll run next. He doesn't seem to worry about it too much but he knows it'll come. This is getting very interesting now. Hopefully BB won't be able to adjust to whatever we're going to throw at them.

I say look for Ginn to get the ball and throw it down field. :shifty:

He is saying OTHER teams take that approach, not that his team will. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Chad get put on his butt at least once or twice by the Patriots defender. It makes perfect sense to me too. Rough the QB up a bit, That cornerback is somewhat out of the play to begin with.

Hit the QB, even if you don't injure him (most likely you won't) you still hit the QB and make his body more fatigued going forward. I really don't foresee having too much success again against New England in the wildcat. Say what you will about BB, but he has got his team in the thick of the playoff race with a beat up, aging team that is relying on a backup QB who really hasn't started since high school.

The guy knows how to gameplan and I wouldn't be surprised if he sniffs out the formation this time around...and perhaps even throws it back in our face on the offensive side of the ball.

Couldnt Penny just fall to the ground the second he sees the defender coming for him? Or dodge him like a bullfighter? I think that would be a easy solution for that..

First off Pennington is a gamer and whoever hits him may be in for a very unpleasant surprise. That defender may get knocked on his ass by penny and I really hate to think of what Ronnie, Ricky or what some other bruiser on our offense might do to that little db when we run a play or two right at him and send him off limping to the sidelines. I mean seriously could you imagine if a team intentionally took a cheap shot at penny how our entire team would react to that. What do they think Porter and Roth will do to Cassel in response to that. They could be playing the rest of their season out with their 3rd string QB.

I think they should be more worried about their QB's safety than the Wild Cat. Didn't we sack them like 3 or 4 times last time we played them. I mean we shut them down on D. They scored 13 points.

I like the idea of Ginn getting the end around, sending Penny straight downfield off the snap, and if the DB goes with him (as effective as a block) then Ginn tries to turn the edge, and if the DB sits back to defend the end around, then heave it deep to Penny.

Simple, yet potentially effective.

If he is not in the play, and especially if the play goes toward the opposite side of the field, he should. That is if the Cb is drawing a bead on him.

Remember how good Denver defended the wildcat? They were coming off a bye, and had the time to teach the defense to stop it.

The Pats are essentially coming off a bye, having played last Thursday. That gives them an extra 3 days to prepare. My guess is that the Dolphins bring a brand new bag of toys to this contest.

I just hope Miami isn't looking past this week to the Rams game in week 13. One game at a time fellas, one game at a time. lol.

No one is looking past this one, gish. This is it. This is the big one. What happens against the Pats can define who the Dolphins really are. Beating a division rival twice will really show the NFL that they are truely a solid team. A loss just puts them back into the mix with the "others". We'll be on the edge of our seats.

No doubt in my mind that Miami will show NE something completely different out of the Wildcat formation. The one time the Jets ran the ball out of the Wildcat on Thursday they gained 17 yards.

because they beat the pats so easily last time. Meanwhile, the Rams will be our first road opponent in over a month. May want to rest up before taking on the best of the mid-west. I hear Dante Hall is planning on a comeback tour against our ST coverage unit. :pity:
