There is little to no reason to play Henne much more than the first half. We benefit in a loss and this is a good opportunity to have Pat White reps against a defense that is playing for keeps.

I hate the logic of "lets tank a game so that we get a higher draft pick"
That sure works out perfectly for Oakland, Detroit, Cleveland, St Louis and Buffalo doesnt it?

    One-starred.

This is NOT the NBA (Which is completely and totally un-watchable and without integrity) this fortunately IS a game where grown men play for keeps.

I think Henne should play also just for experience like others said. It won't accomplish much to bench your future franchise qb. Plus I just don't see this team taking the game lightly or giving up,that is not the way Sparano and Parcells work.

Is there a reason why you wanna have Pat take reps over Henne?, if were all about next year, then why not get the future at the position quality reps against a championship style defense.?..Or, do you think Pat is the future at the position?

The more reps Henne can get in "live-game-action" the more it will help with his development.

I hate to play this card, because it's so overused, but it applies here:

What about the logic of getting other players reps against real competition. Or are you blind to that kind of logic.

No, Henne is definitely the starting QB in my mind - hopefully for years to come. But that doesn't mean that Pat doesn't have a future with the team - as it is, he gets put in during critical situation almost every week. The one thing I've noticed with Pat is that he almost never passes, and I'm not sure he has even completed a pass. I can only think part of this has to do with his lack of reps. It sure would be nice to have Pat be an actual threat when he does go in.

As for championship "style" defense, these days its more style than substance. Pittsburgh's pass D has been a huge liability this year, so I'm not sure that will make much of a difference to Henne.

That wasn't directed at me and yet I still found it a little insulting. I happen to agree with the others, we have a very young QB who we expect to be the future of the franchise and he needs all the experience he needs. Let white do as Henne did and learn on the sideline and then spend the off season getting ready for next year. :knucks:

Given the current state of officiating, I'm not so sure. I mean doesn't Brady play by "Jordan Rules"?

Sorry if you took that to be insulting. I mean the guy went "one star" without even addressing the whole post. Do you suppose that could have been taken as insulting by me?

Don't make the assumption that I'm saying benching Henne equates to losing the game. Admittedly there is more of a risk to losing by benching Henne, but that risk is mitigated through better draft position. That looks like a win-win to me.

And I'm more concerned about giving Pat White reps who the coaches seem to want on the field, but don't yet have confidence in letting him pass - along with reducing injury risk to Henne.

But if someone wants to change what I wrote into "throwing a game" for draft position, then I'm not sure I care much about their feelings.

That's a bit extreme. I mean the better draft pick, the risk of losing Henne to injury in a meaningless game, the opportunity to develop Pat White a bit more...

The only thing the dolphins have to play for is Pride. The question is, is the Pride more important than the injury risk, bench player development, and draft position? I think its a fair question.

There's an outside chance we can get in the playoffs. A win is necessary to accomplish this.

Barring that outside chance fails even with a W I would rather go out knowing we finished with a W rather than a L.

I think Henne should play the whole game to gain that experience he would need in the future. Besides I believe I read somewhere that Sparano is going to start him to "evaluate him".

The playing time is 10X more valueable for Henne than White. White is nowhere in the picture of our future as a starting QB so there is no reason in my mind to waste a game by playing him. That's what the pre-season is for.

While it's a small chance I want to see how Henne plays in this game when there is some hope on the line.

And the idea of Miami throwing a game for draft position makes me sick to my stomach.

I think Thigpen has a better chance to being a pro level starter than White.

    First off

Secondly I never made the assumption that you wanted him benched so that we would lose the game. I just think of the two quarterbacks in question its way more beneficial to the team to give Henne the work. He needs all the work he can get reading defenses and as its already been expressed the Steeler defense is a great learning opportunity for him to develop further. If this was the end of the year and Penny was still our starter I would lean toward giving Henne some playing time same as you wanting to see PW start. The Difference? Henne needs the work too were as Penny doesn't.

As for as getting PW experience he has already gotten a lot more playing time than Henne got his first year. Lets hope this serves him well as time goes on. :knucks:

So far from what I have seen of them both, I would take Thigpen over White but hey, I'm not the one who spent a 2nd round Draft pick on him.:tongue2:

Quite honestly, as far as true QB, White is really the third stringer.
There is nothing more important to the franchise at this juncture than having Henne see more and more time.
    You know what I think?
The ONLY reason they would do this is in hopes White does light it up so it ups his trade value this off-season

    I agree.
I saw him in 4 or 5 games with the Chefs, and all he did was impress the hell out of me.
He is accurate, has a very strong arm and is perhaps as good on the run as White, just probably not as fast.
I have a feeling with the aquisition of Thigpen for next to nothing, and the very very nice development of Henne (This kid Will be an All-pro before its over) the FO is kindve wishing they had gone a different direction with that second round pick.
Of course, hind-site is always 20-20.
BTW: Very good to see you brother, Mama says Happy New Year.

a major dose of Pat White would be appropriate
would like to give Thigpen a few snaps
then turn it over to the IceMan to finish up in the second half
the way our first halves have been going
might as well experiment, maybe we'll catch them off guard
we need to know what Pat White can do under center
& especially w/ the WildCat & Spread offense
I say we can still play to win,
while gaining serious & needed experience in the first half

Perhaps, but why do you say that?
I believe he is to date 0-3? Passing so far?
He has been clutch on a couple of key plays, but I just don't ever see him as a conventional QB what-so-ever, and the same argument I have against that is the same I have with a Reggie Bush in, and that is, you only get a couple of "Gadget-Plays" each game.

if they start white and give thigpen snaps in the Pitt game in the 1st half
insert Henne in the second half
    that would be a nightmare
