Bengals to interview Newton, Palmer not in plans

Coach Marvin Lewis stated Friday that the Bengals are proceeding this offseason as if Carson Palmer won't be with the team in 2011.
"All I know is what's been said and that's how I'm proceeding," said Lewis. Owner Mike Brown treats standoffs like Super Bowls, so we suspect the Bengals will let Palmer twist in the wind unless another team is crazy enough to offer a first-round pick in return. Ahh, do not be surprised if Cam Newton lands in Cinci, and if we want a ready to contribute Qb, CP will be on the market no matter what Brown is saying publicly.

The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy believes there's a better chance of Carson Palmer sitting out the season than being traded.
It's the widespread sentiment. The Bengals aren't going to get what they want for Palmer in a trade (an early second-day pick at least), and all signs point to Palmer being serious about retirement if he doesn't get his wish. If there are offseason workouts at all, don't expect Palmer to show.
